O-M-G!!! Cant believe this is on YT! I remember this song when I was young. DJ Red Alert used to play this on the radio, 98.7 Kiss FM, and we would record it on a cassette tape, and then play it back and write down the words. Great memories! Dang, what the heck happened to real hip-hop??! Anyway, thanks so much for posting this!
@SlimfromYO i was in brooklyn summer 89 and this was one of many supreme tracks that came out that year! Red Alert n Marley on kiss fm and wbls...made mad tapes b4 heading back to london
This is a dope track, though a classic and entirely forgotten now. YZ is an underestimated MC who laid out the rhymes. That video took me all the way back to my time in high school more than two decades ago. It's people like you who wouldn't allow this type of music to die. Thanks for sharing it. Peace out!!!!!!
First heard this song getting repeated airplay in Texas and loved it. I thought they were supporting a neighborhood rapped. Turns out he's from Jersey. I Miss true hip hop days of the past
@Rap0nlyCompton What you need to respect is what he chooses to call himself. People have the right to identify as they choose and Obama calls himself Black. End of Story. Now respect that.
check out where YZ shot this video at. doesnt take rented fancy cars, flashy clothes, rented jewlery etc to make a dope video. i miss this era but im glad i grew up during this era. it made me appreciate good music. my ears have a mind of their own when it comes to good music.
SEE WHAT I MEAN. PHROPHETS .I GREW UP ON THIS ISH THATS WHY YALL CANT FUCK WIT ME. BLACK PRESEDENT SOLUTION.IT CAME TO PAST. JUST THOUGHT I PONT THAT OUT. MORE HOME WORK FOR YOU WANT BE RAPP NIGGAS
What ever happen to the other lyrics that says...I know the jews are not the choosen Now it's time to speak the unspoken..Blacks are the original adam and eve type . And there's only white from black not black from white...
hiphop is shit nowdays because its now an image rather a movement. listen to the lyrics.. they talk bout how they make money how they survive n how they cool out and how they mack the hoes most mostly how fly they are. now its more of a image of how much money they get in there salary, and the clothes they wear and sucking up to woman. instead of we dont love them hoes its now,, please take me back begging.
@skateboardsteve409 rappers are all pretty boys than raw rugged real look, check out fabolous with the chipped tooth, ice cube back in the day nappy curl hair, its now a image, fashion statement. hiphop in my opinion has took a wrong turn.
WOW!!!!! I'M A PASTOR NOW AND THIS IS STILL ONE OF MY TOP 25 "REAL HIP HOP SONGS" OF " ALL TIME "... I WISH HIP HOP COULD AND WOULD GO BACK TO THIS...
Rap labels need to push at least a few artists on their labels to see that kids want knowledge and conscious rap like YZ, Nubians, Krs, Paris etc. Money could be made and we could have a generation of youth not hell bent on violence, weed and ho's etc.
A genre is needed for all types of rap so why not have more hot shit like this that actually makes youth think.
2:32 "african awareness" The way things are now we should make that American Awareness. We need to come together as a group if we're going to prevent corporations and the government from raping us!!!
im with iprincemajestic, me and my best friend use to rock this song everyday. His father was a panther so he was real pro black so we listened to alot of rap like this and public enemy; you wans't the only one my man
@lldannyd Actually yz said time for a change and I mean a revolution open your eyes a black president solution. Listen to the whole song before you start typing. who's th enigger now?

There is a part of this song that stuck out in my mind since I was a kid.

@lldannyd he said a blacks presidents solution you dumb fuck, you and obama both need to be send to the 3rd world territories here and across the world to learn about the fucking struggle
@lldannyd hahahahahaah god you must hate yourselfs. I wonder if when theres a worldwide revolution , people like you would be send to prison for being too ignorant. you couldve been a smart racist and said " he said a blacks president solution(obama) yet he hasnt helped them out since he took office" which would be an incredibly "vallid" statement, but no you're a dumb fuck so you cant even be an accurate racist
uhm...@ 1:38 YZ said "...a black president is the SOLUTION..right in ya face and yo, u still dont C it..."and damn homey can u use the term "nigga"....cuz nigger dont even look right....look like a cracka wrote that...."crackas" come in all shades these days.....

How in the fuk did h-town go from living legends like YZ and Face to shit like Pall Wall and youngster. I spent my jr high years in houston in the late 80s and don't remember anybody sounding like these new, ignorant, xanax eating, lean drinkin, country ass sounding fukheads. A whole generation of potential talent fucked off to a bunch of fad followers.
@DKF76- I think we both right..i think he was from jersey but moved to Houston. I'm not sure but I remember them shooting vids in Houston. I also remember his hype man was from Trenton.
Mann, I remember when this joint dropped. Mann, this was the overall JAM of 1989. The clubs would rock this joint on repeat. Damn this was a hot, hot jam and Still is. You still feel this jam and bob ur head to it! This is a song that just makes ur body move. numtumbot
How can you even compare this with these sell out, ignorant artists today. Look what we let corporate America do to a beautiful art form. I bet most of these young rappers never even heard of this dude. Blame it on BET!!! This should be on Old school video of the day suckers!
@saecou I agree with you on the statement about MOST of the young rappers today. I happen to have satellite radio and I heard this joint on channel "65"- Old school rap! By today standards, the "rappers" would call this lame. I love the flow and the production. But most importantly, the Message!
@saecou ... We gotta lose the term ol' school, it ain't ol' school, cause good music is always fresh. As soon as you hear it for the first time its new to you and your born, cause you jus hear this new shit and that's what's up, so we gotta lose the term ol' school.
MrPhilly remember that he worked with 2 others before the record deal. My dad and him used to work together back then. Though, I forgot who the other was.

Yeah boooiiiiieee! That's tha shizzit! Back when Hip-hop was deep into Afrocentricity and had REAL MEANING.
RealHipHopSucks93, shut up, get on your knees (since you're a bitch anyways), open your mouth wide and have Soulja Beeeotch, Lil Gayne, and all the hip-pop crappers out now bukkake cum all over your worthless face (you would love it anyway)
This is the shit, from back in the day. When rap was thinkin,YZ were you @ man!!
Rap needs one more of these. Yo Eazy-E and the whole west coast killed this style of rap.I use to love this style,Then came that hardcore gangsta shit, and I had to love that shit too./Rap was the shit from 87-97.
Yo YZ if you happen to search youtube and see this, I was one of the kids in the crowd when you gave that free concert at Whiteville (N.C.) High School way back in the day and you did this song. I think you were there for the funeral of a relative or someone you knew. I'll never forget it. Much respect.

This video is outstanding. Very smart on their part to shoot it during such an important event.

Yo YZ if you happen to search youtube and see this, I was one of the kids in the crowd when you gave that free concert at Whiteville (N.C.) High School way back in the day and you did this song. I think you were there for the funeral of a relative or someone you knew. I'll never forget it. Much respect.
