are those portals a mod? i don't understand why they look like that. my portals don't have that fiery look and all my video settings are turned up high.

I've actually updated my computer to Windows 7 since this video was made. Surprisingly enough, forcing DirectX 10 was what got it to work properly. Its no longer white and I can go through portals without crashing the game. All I needed to do was add: -dxlevel 100

In theory, it should work in Windows Vista also, because it has DirectX 10.

@Demache92 It works on my laptop which has Vista as the primary OS. I should note that my copy is from The Orange Box and so is a download from Steam, not the original game.

It isn't out yet, not until later this year. And the beta is no longer downloadable from Microsoft. But you can continue using the beta until the full version is released.

my graphics card on my laptop plays it perfectly at around 30. i use fraps to tell me. my graphics card is a nvidia geforce 8400m

i know your right, i test it myself. But that video is not a proof. Because you could bind the cheat on a button. For all who don't belive thats not a cheat. Test it!

Hey if you wanna make portal run better go to it in the steam menu and right click go to launch options and put.

Sorry, but I've already tried it, it fixes the graphics problem (perfectly to say the least) but the program crashes as soon as I go through the first Portal. :( Thanks though.

The graphics look good for a laptop, must be a pretty expensive one.

It was about $1200 two years ago (so its probably worth about $400-500 dollars now). Now its fairly dated as far as graphics go. The only thing saving it is that it has a dual-core and has 2 gb of ram. If you listen closely you'll hear the audio clipping because its struggling to keep up with the game.

No I don't have the cheat enabled.

The reason why everything is black is because I have a laptop with integrated graphics (Mobile Intel 945 Express) and for some reason it doesn't render the lighting correctly in either Portal or TF:2. But I don't have frame rate issues so I'm somewhat confused.

hmm, the graphics are like portal on my last laptop, it had an intel 980(? or something) integrated graphics card. I was able to run portal but not half-life 2... Very strange, my laptop does only have the half battery time but is several times faster, only bougth 7 months later.

I noticed that bug a long time ago, but i'd not care that much about it...

the reason you can't fire on those walls is because they're designed not to support portals. you can fire portals on the white walls because they're not reflective.

as for why you can fire one behind the device, I haven't a clue.
