What you say about them liking to be hugged and kissed is true. I have a mixxed maine coon who looks a lot like Rosie, and yesterday I went into the bedroom and my husband was asleep and hugging the cat (who was admittedly rather confused looking) like a teddy bear.

I don't think there are short haired Main coons. Rosie came from a RSPCA rescue home 14 yrs ago. she was a year old when we got her. She still has moments of madness but does spend a lot of time asleep. And still has a very good appitite.

Nah, there's no short hair. The breed originates from the state of Maine, and they're built for a harsh and very cold winter. The fur in their paws would act as snowshoes and the big coat keeps them insulated in the cold.

I never thought I'd spend money on a cat but paid $800 for my maine coon and she is worth a hundred times that. They are the most incredible breed of cat and I will only own maine coons from here on end. Your cat is beautiful.

I think they do grow bigger than rosie. who is now fifteen years old. there is a lot of fluffy coat. Bur they are usually bigger than a lot of cats.

I've had cats all my life and my favorite kitty to day was Monty, my beautiful Maine Coon. I lost him to pancreatic cancer a few months ago. I like to think i gave him a good life. We had fun. And the vet did the best he could.

3 yrs is when they are fully grown... males get to be 25-30 lbs...females up to 18-20 lbs... i have a female maine coon and shes only 1 yr old and already weighs 9 lbs

Your cat is beautiful. I have a Maine Coon rescue cat who looks just like her but is smaller due to being abandoned and underfed as a kitten. She is the most loving, gentle cat I've ever known. It's amazing how someone so abused can be such a love.

I miss my two female Maine Coon Cats, Sandy and Ginger. Sandy was an average size really affectionate cat, and really adorable. Ginger was HUGE but playful, she was like a tank, you couldn't knock her over lol. They were wonderful cats and certainly one of the bigger breeds.

not that much more, my Max is a 25 pound Main Coon and he eats about 3/4 of a cup a day. It is always great to see that a cat has lived its entire life in a loving home. Congrats on your cats! One of my dogs loved his heating pad in his old age....

My gal is 18 years old and weighs about 16 pounds.. I took her in when the older couple living next to me passed on 17 months ago.. She is such a sweetie and is the first cat I ever owned. I also own a 12 year old dog (English Springer). They have their moments of testiness. However, when come home after leaving the house for an extended period of time, I will always find them hanging out the same room. Lovely animal.

I love main coons! They are such affectionate and gentle giants. And they love to be with people. Perfect with children and other animals incl. dogs. They follow us around the house all the time. (we have 1 girl 2 boys) And I hear from other owners an agree from experience that the males can be quite entertaining due to being a little "clumsy" sometimes. I love that they love being hugged and kissed and they are so beautiful. People not sure able cats need to be introduced to a main coon!

I have a Maine coon, and trust me... There is a major difference between them squirming around a bit while you are holding them, and them not wanting to be held. They are a very strong cat, like a miniature tiger, and and they can kick your butt if they want to.

I've got 2 MC's plus my brothers' MC and they are fantastic. They love water, Sam gets in the shower with me if I'm not quick enough to lock him out!! His favourite trick is to stick his paw in the plug hole when the tap is running and let the sink fill then he lets the water out and watches it go down the plug hole.

I love Maine Coons and have had them all my life, AND they've come from shelters all over the country. I've gone myself and looked because staff they call them Tabbys because of their markings. Save a cat's life and check out the shelters.
