Bought a cheap metal detector off of Craigslist yesterday for $35 and tried it out in the park. I forgot to bring a shovel and water, and I had to stop after 30 min because it was so hot.
I bought a metal detector and despite very strong and frequent signals I never found anything untill I changed my work boots for wellington boots.!!!!!
Nice video, I got a Garrett propointer, now able to hear many coins beep from the top of the grass before I dig the plug. It is much faster, can go right for the coin.
hey there, i got a real good way to clean silver only !! you need baking soda, boiling hot water and a plastic or wood bowl. just put the silver in the bowl, add yer boiling water and then add the baking soda !! cleans em up like new !!! happy hunting
it cleans them off well which is nice if you just want them for show or reference. if you want to preserve the value though don't do this because it will damage the finish. if you find something very special get it cleaned professionally for sure.
@hapciupalit if you want to clean a coin you get lemons and squeeze them to make natural lemon juice and leave a coin in there for like five minutes...it works...thats what i do
I have another video that I will be posting where I found my first 1902 -O Barber Dime. Been trying to catch up with posting my vids, right now I am going for a short 1-1/2 hour hunt. CYA.
do you find that law enforcement bothers you when detecting at local parksin town ? was wondering as I just bought my first one a whites prism3 and I heard you live in plainfield I went to sandyhook and the cops chased me out lol said i could make land mines go off was curious to how town and state parks react to this hobby
You have to check your the local park officials. Most parks are ok to detect in, but you have to check. Stay out of state parks they are off limits and most forest preserves are as well. Always try to get permission if possible.
I mean conserving them. So they dont oxidate anymore. but if you use soap and water, you have to conserve them well cuz the soap will stay on the coin and oxidate it more. btw, I live in Europe and what does nuismatic mean? ;) poor condition??
I like your showing others how to fill a hole so it looks like you were never there...the way all holes should be when done digging. Great video. Congrats on the finds.
Minelab puts out a good product. I have researched the EX 1000, but have never used it. The reviews are good and I can't tell you anything about the Lorenz Deepmax3. For a water detector I am actually considering the EX1000 also. HH.
Very good. But do not overlook the dirt fill that was delivered there. A friend of mine was working on a landscaping project for the company he worked for and found a gold 8 real (piece of eight) in the dirt that was delivered for the project. Good hunting!
Thanks for posting such a pleasant and informative series, really enjoyed it. I plan on buying a detector soon, I hear that you might as well take advantage of current technology and get a good one as opposed to a cheaper one. I live in an old farmhose with a couple acres in Washington state and look forward to doing some hunting. Thanks again, Mark.
i have a metal detector on full senitivity it gets coins 3+ inches down but it dosent tell what it is or anything only cost £70 saving for one around £200.
Same Here! All the little kid's say"Hey can i borrow that?" Or "Hey let me try!"I just tell them i buried a lot of money ova there and theygo over there
In my area some cities and Park systems do require a permit to metal detect. Also, State beaches are off limit for detecting. Make sure you research your area. There is probably a local metal detecting club that can answer any question you have also.
Thanks for the info. I have already checked where I live and I do belong to a club that keeps up on all the latest. This is good information for someone who is just getting into the hobby. I have been hunting since 1986.
To answer your question, we do not need a license or permit. In a lot of the different states here in America they have rules or regulations, but for most all you have to do is ask permission on private property. Most of my videos where I hunt are public places where you do not need permission.

You have to be aware of the State, City and local park regulations. There are cities near me that will not let you hunt and there are cities and public parks that will. Fortunately, this is one of those parks you can hunt at.
1967 has a composition of.750 copper and .250 nickel. I think when everyone refers to silver coins they are referring to coins dating back to 1964 and earlier. The older silver coins have a composition of .900 and .100 copper with .18084 oz. of pure silver.

I talked to an area resident who used to metal detect that area back in 1979 when they tore up the park and remodeled it to it's present date and he said that there were a lot of metal detectorist out there after the work crew had left and they found all kinds of silvers and Indiand Heads in the middle of the park before they brought in all the fill dirt and built it up to a higher elevation. Wish I could have been there when the construction was going on back in 1979.
I am going to do much more hunting this year than last, weather permitting. The temperature today as I am writing this is 5 degrees. A little to cold for me as well. Toward the weekend it is supposed to get back up to about 54 degrees and I will be out swinging my coil again.
I agree there is bound to be some silver still there. I am very hopeful. The area of the park I hunted there is underground electric lines and a transformer. tank you for the tip. do the coins have to sit in the vinegar and salt? or it is better to shake them a litle bit?
hapciupalit 1 year ago
I don't know about the vinegar and salt mixture for cleaning. Salt does not sound good for a coin cleaner.
If you are going to let them set, I have heard to let them set over time in olive oil.
Hope that helps.
