the crazy thing about faces is there is no face on this planet that is asymmetrical, but it's always the artists decision to be realistic or to make it pleaseant to look at. the greeks for example always made people look the way they thought the human body should look, the over exaggerated muscles and absence of the tail bone are, the ancient egyptians made faces the exact way they looked in real life. A great way that everyone should check their artwork is with a mirror, youll see all mistakes

I use pencil then progress light to dark with pastel. I use hairspray to fix color, but it can ruin everything if its used at an early stage. Do you use fixitives at many stages?

pretty good.. but what happened to the hand? looks incomplete!!.. also maybe you should try to using the color pallet instead of the obvious colors.. like using blue, purple or red to make brown or a better looking skin tones. I really makes it look a looooot more realistic.. but overall look good..

@angelsuds you mean velour, do you not? It's really not a good surface to work on. It sheds and the colors get sucked in. Try suede mat board. Same effect, but more solid and you can do more with it. Also, it's traditional to work back to front and dark to light in pastel. There are areas of your painting which look muddy.

@lavanya2kowmar: For Depth...dude...You can't layer a lighter color ontop of a darker color when you use pastels, it looks wrong, and it complicates. Hence the lighter color was used first.

i hate you, and thats more out of envy. Your technique is very interesting. Like the hair, when you did a yellowish color i was like "WHAT THE HECK IS SHE DOING!?!?" then i saw what you did, and it was brilliant! You need a base color and I find if I use a brighter color to start with than I end with, it kind of gives it a nice glow.

Theres some thing thats called "Barniz" in spanish, i forgot its name in english, but its used also in wood, it also gives it a brighter and smoother texture

Like in graphite drawing they use a fixative.

What's with all the haterade.... "Oh I could do this better blah blah blah" and that prick that said putting art up on youtube is a waste of time. What a joker. Even though this may not be EXACTLY like the picture, I think subtle differences from picture to canvas makes the art look more "real", like it was done by a hand. I think if it's done too exactly, then it looks like one of those computer programs you can get nowadays that can make a photo look like paint. Anyway, well done! Bellissima!
