@JINAYKHAN, how dare you judge this woman! No one is perfect, not even Jesus as he lost his temper in the temple. This woman is my new hero as she takes care of her son so wonderfully. My husband is in Iraq and I tell him every day about what new Jamey video I saw. You are the one that needs prayers Mr as you are holier than thou for no reason.
The sad thing is when people, whether it be intentionally done or done out of lack of proper knowledge, call people with autism "retarded". That's not to say that some people who do have autism aren't mentally handicapped, but everyone on that spectrum shouldn't be lumped together like that. Even then, some who are really handicapped have savant abilities.
Although cases like this definitly still exist, and are very sad, it is good that some people who would have been severe or profoundly autistic are now mild or moderatly autistic because of early intervention and improving therapies. I think cases like this will be around for a long time though, as some cases are just so severe and complex that no therapy can make the individual improve to an extent where they could have some self care skills.
Put him in front of a TV and let him play some console games, I suggest GTA 4, on xbox 360 or ps3. Very violent game, helps to get some of the anxiety out, well thats what my counslor suggest. lol it does actually work for me, but I can drive myself to and from there so yeah. good luck
I've always wondered, if it was something like PKU....a slow progressive, poisoning of the person because of an inability for the body to rid itself of a certain chemical (phenylalinine ). Can you imagine healing what it is that bothers your son, what causes the seizures? Fifty years ago my friend used to say all it would take was to put back the missing chemical in her sister's brain. We are no farther today...Our concern now is Aspergers.
What a truly loving god that would do this to his creation. But hey if it makes you feel better to say that "God has a purpose for everyone" then go for it. Kinda silly how us humans have to justify the atrocity's of the world with some sort of creator. But I give you much praise and love for your sorrow and struggles as a parent. We Atheists are few but arent all bad.
@TheHalo3spartan117 It's okay, sometimes something deeply disturbing can cause people to laugh. I'm sure you don't mean it to be mean. At least you were courageous enough to watch.
@k0rps3gynd3r - It sounds to me like your son may be on the autism spectrum. My son turned three a few weeks ago, and was recently diagnosed with mild to moderate autism. Your son sounds just like mine. Autism is more prevalent in boys, and yes, it is possible to have one autistic child, and one neuro-typical child. I urge you to talk to your pediatrician, and they will refer you to an autism specialist. Early intervention is very important.
@Drakencoo i have one gifted "adult" child, one slow to normal "adult" child and one severely autistic child. more than anything love, sweet caring and patience is more effective than early intervention!
I have Asperger Syndrome. When I was in school I needed extra help with reading and writing. But in maths I was better than anyone else in my grade. as Strange as that may sound. But I believe that people like this may look inept and don't know whats happening. But I think deep down they are listening to everything being said about them...
Hi, I'm in a class at high school in a special unit class. I have aspergers and ADHD. One of the students in the class has severe autism and I want to help him calm down because he freaks out regulary.
hi, I own a website about autism and was wondering if it would be alright with you if i put up some videos of your son to show people what severe autism ACTUALLY is.
My heart really goes out to you all. Please look into treating his bowel ( forgive me if you find me patronising as it isn't my intention). Life must be so difficult for you all and you are doing a great job. I too, will be praying for you so that this beautiful son your can stopped being in so much pain xxxx
It's brave of you to share the reality of severe autism. Our child also has severe autism. Your comments in the video itself are right on. God *is* with us and our loved ones. We are truly unbreakable. God bless.
@kgaccount doing very well -- she is 13 and such a cutie; non verbal, classic severe autism. Her SIB is biting herself... she reminds me a lot of your precious son, except she doesn't have seizures thus far. Also water obsessed, loves music, pets. I want you to know your videos are very informative and often beautiful, so touching. I'll visit often. God bless you and your beautiful family!
He beats himself in the head, and has frequent seizures, have you considered the two may be related? If he KNOWS a seizure is coming (which he can learn to relate a certain feeling to a oncoming seizure I'm sure) he could be literally trying to beat it out of himself. It seems like you assume it's just a compulsion, but it still could be CAUSED by some kind of trigger that you aren't able to be aware of.
@xxagoraphobic Underlying seizure activity is only ONE antecedent to some incidents of SIB. Yes, we know they can trigger SIB, but we've also seen seizure activity STOP SIB. His case shows how complex this behavior is in some severely autistic persons.
kgaccount, just ignore all these morons who are posting rude comments, with minds and hearts like they have one can only imagine where they'll end up when they die...
how can the text say Lord help us yet the voice whispers on the video "God dammit it" you cannot have it both ways.. you want to curse using the Lord's name in the same breath yet you want HIS help? He is a infant in a man's body still you can see it in his soul his eyes.. I will pray for him and for you as most assuredly you need prayers most of all.
@JINAYKHAN Yes, you are right. I guess I'm just a bad example as a Christian. Sorry. The pain is too deep. My prayers are growing weary. I'm mentally and spiritually messed up. I do Love and respect God, I just feel sometimes He is happy to see all this suffering. I know He is perfect, it's the human weakness in me that needs work to be stronger in my faith.
@kgaccount no your not a bad example, we sometimes waiver in our faith, its surely testing you in these times but knowing from my own experience having a child who is autistic, it stretches our faith, we doubt our prayers are heard, yet He knows what we do not.. Im happy to hear you love God and respect Him. You are surrounded by loved ones who have passed on and who can hear and help us. may God keep you faithful and help you every moment of your life and your child
Kg hi I have an idea for how to help stop him from hitting himself, take 2 pringles chip cans reinforced with tongue depressors. And pad then insides. Put them on his arms this way he can't bend his arms to hurt himself. You can put colorful fabric on the outside like his favorite color or something like that,
Bless him and ur family he is a very handsome boy and u r the definition of a loving mother a lot of us young mothers can't even deal with things little kids do. But my hat goes off to u I will pray for u guys. Much love and blessings.
After watching most of your videos, first I'd like to applaud you and the rest of your family for doing the best you can for him ... in his own way, he appreciates it I'm sure. I'm have no medical basis so sorry if this is an ignorant question but would his seizures/brain activity be causing more damage to him? It seems like it would from my standpoint that constant brain misfirings wouldn't be a positive thing in the long term.
@eastender86 Who says? You? God uses the weak and seemingly not meant to live people of the world to confuse the so called wise. ALL autistic individuals have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. No matter how bleak the situation may appear. THere is always hope.
@kgaccount There is no happiness in this person whatsoever. The self harm shows us the fact he doesn't want to live. Keeping people alive in that kind of condition is pure torture which I'm afraid is absolutely never justifiable. As for who decides, natural selection does.
@eastender86 There is no happiness in my autistic son, you claim? How incredibly ignorant and myopic. The reason I put these videos up is to show how even though in ONE video he may appear beyond hope, there are ten other videos showing there is ALWAYS hope for ALL autistics...it's people like you that keep them down.
@kgaccount i agree, its people like your son who teach others. Every person on this earth is important to God, anyone who is alive or who has ever been alive or who will be alive is meant to live.
@kgaccount Im not joking when i say this but have you tried calming him with cannabis? It's a route more people should turn to. A strong indica type should chill him out. You should look into it. Cannabis is the way forward for autism.
@eastender86 Wow that is an absolute trash statement! I can't believe you consider your life more valuable over his just because you can communicate your thoughts.
He's very handsome; what lovely blue eyes and strong facial features he has! God blessed you and your family with him surely. Best of luck with the epilepsy and the autism combination.
@BluestreakPictures Its Called an illness You Heartless Bitch Imagine your sister hits her head and turns retarded ? will you like people making fun of her NO So stfu and learn how to have some manners ; go to church >:|
God bless this family and the boy! I will keep everyone in my prayers! I have a son who is almost 3 and has angelman syndrome. Its pretty severe so I can almost relate. Thank you for sharing!
Don't worry, you're not alone. We have an autistic child too, but he doesn't hit himself, but he has pretty much the same as yours. Have you ever heard of Melatonin? We give him a small dose every day at 6:00 and it calms him right down. Contact your doctor about it if you ever get the chance ;)
@WarbossGorgutz What do you mean? Are you suggesting he be put out of his suffering cuz if that's where you're going don't go there. The SAME child you're looking at on this video has OTHER videos showing him very happy NOT suffering. You can't just hyperfocus on ONE video and assume this means his life is pure suffering. This is one day where he was showing extreme self abusive behaviors, which is common wiht severe autism and self injury.
@kgaccount omg, if that person implied that how cruel.. ugh.. we still yet have to experience all this ignorant butts like that person... my lil brother is two and has autism.. i would never ever be ashamed of him... i take him out everywhere with me.. and never has that stupid person's thought ever crossed our minds... wow, how upsetting... i admire.. im going to keep watching these videos because it helps our family understand our little brother
@WarbossGorgutz you should watch ALL the videos before saying something so stupid, i've seen jamey laughing and he does things that bring him joy in life
@kgaccount i'm sorry if i come off as nosey or anything but did he always act this way? im so stupid when it comes to this and i fear my son has autism. its not this severe but he just has alot of the red flags i guess u could say. he has just turned three and im not sure what to do or where to go, he can say a few words and count to eight, but he spins wheels alot, waves his hand alot, walks on tippy toes alot, but he is also affectionate and does respond do expression and some words.
@kgaccount he also lines up blocks ALOT!! he plays with his sister. he likes to be chased. i dunno. it may be that im blowing this up bigger than it is but i just want to make sure that my boy is ok. im trying to get help from speech and behavior people around here but i live in the sticks so to speak and its very hard to find intelligent enough on the topic. im having trouble sleeping because im so worried about him. he is very important to me.
@kgaccount if my son really has autism it has to be a mild to moderate case i suppose, bacause he also does alot of what i would call normal behavior. he is also really good at putting puzzles together. i was also wondering, is it possible to have one child with autism and one without? i have a daughter that is as sharp as a razor and that just makes me scratch my head even more.
...but im honestly clueless as to why i do it or how to prevent it, but whether broguth on by stress from events or from games or whathave you i cant seem to control it, i just lose it ((feel free to disregard what ive said if you think im just acting like a little kid throwing a tempertantrum)
dont honestly know if i count but i think i suffer from SIB as well, im not autistic but in periods of extreme stress or frustration ive often ended up slamming my fists against my head or biting into my arm, i also tend to lash out at whatevers causing the stress, or whatever i believe is its cause, you wouldnt believe the damage my computer has suffered X( ive actually slammed and slugged my monitor, my computer, my head, walls, and its actually caused terminal damage to my hands...
It would've been much better had this individual never been born. Any normal person looking at this would say "I'd rather die, than live like that." It's our cowardice that makes us refuse to admit that death is the only humane choice in cases of severe autism. If your dog was that sick, you'd put it down out of love and mercy. There's no reason why we should deny that mercy simply because the individual in question has human genes.
Even I, a "higher functioning" Autistic (Aspergers) who also has Cerebral Palsy understands the issue of self-injury behavior. Even I occasionally "self injure", (face slapping/hitting), when in a severe cognitive emotional/sensory overload tantrum. I am also ashamed @ times as a 52 year-old, that I also @ times "smear my own feces", when I have messed myself, & I am emotionally distressed during changinging my own diapers.
I can't imagine living with such a condition, or having to live with someone with that condition. It must take alot of patience and love to be able to live with something like that. I have the love, but I'm not very patient.
oh this is hell for you all, i have no kids of my own for reference and i'm sorry but i cant help feeling your prolonging his agony! and to what end? I must ask, If there was a process in place would you consider ending his life in a humanitarian way, because if there are no rewards or heaven then what is the point of this type of existance?
@Televersity There is lots of hope for his kind of case. There have been cases documented where an autistic person this severe has FINALLY been effectively stablized by finding the perfect combination of drug therapy to supplement behavioral and sensory and diet, etc...that is currenly in place. It's like putting a puzzle together and the pieces are scattered all over the planet. But we're getting closer. Each miserable mess and endless suffering leads us closer to miraculous healing.
@Televersity ending his life? are you serious? wow.. its not about religion nor heaven or whatever.. its all done out of love... and only the strong can do this out of love, and not to receive a reward at the end of our journey.. and there is a lady that has austism and she holds her doctorate! she is extremely intelligent.. im dont remember her name but there is a movie about her.. temple?... idk.. but wow...
Those of us with Autism are very sensitive to the outside world. The sensory overload could be a problem. Have you ever looked at which situations make your son calm. Those are heaven for someone with autism.
@Isochest Yep, water. Too bad he isn't a fish. He can't stay in water all day. However, on days where nothing else worked, I tell all involved in his care, screw it, just keep stripping him down and if he's obsessing on going back to bath, let him. It takes a lot of work, and nurses and others sometimes resent this, but if that's what works, that's what we do. And yes, you are right, sensory calming interventions are a little piece of heaven for autistic since our world is so chaotic and loud.
my 3 year old has PDD-NOS and he head bangs and has done this for a LONG time he has banged his head hard enough to leave goose eggs and bruises on his forehead altho he hasnt done this fcor about 2 weeks now I have always wondered what kinda damage he could cause himself. We did get him a soft helmet but he would bang his head harder to feel it through the helmet. Its such a feeling of no control when he does it.
@TiffieTube Oh, I'm sorry! I know how frustrating it is to see your child hurt themselves. It's a horrible, helpless feeling, but there is hope. They need a LOT of different interventions. It's really about finding the RIGHT combo of things that work, and being able to pull things from the tool box of "tricks" and "protective devices" you build along this very difficult journey. Stay strong. Have you been to occupational therapist? Tried music therapy? Ruled out underlying medical issues?
@kgaccount Yes we do see a OT I should tell you he has a hearing loss too. I have suggested that maybe most of the head banging is because he cant talk weither it be because he is on the Spectrum or he cant talk cause of the hearing loss to which I have been shot down *sigh* Music therapy I will have to look that up on Google cause no I havent tried that but I am willing to try anything!! Do you know of any good sites on that?? Thank you for your reply :)
As a 20 year veteran speech pathologist, I have to admit that your video brought me to tears. My thoughts are with you and your family and your beautiful son.
does his SIB precipitate a siezure? my cousin will do this usually right before he has a seiaure...seems to be the primary time he does this to himself. I was just wondering. My cousin is 14 and has Autism....is not vocal.....and well i'm just trying to understand it better.
@bonesmccoy1 SIB can precipate seizure activity becaues the pounding against head can trigger seizure activity. Conversely, seizure activity can sometimes "scare" Jamey, thus, he starts to punch himself, only to have another seizure (perhaps stronger) "shock" him out of punching fit, and he starts giggling. Very complex.
Wow what the fuck has society gone too, "Oh hey lets just let them have a baby that will cost millions and do nothing but shit and harm itself and others"
There needs to be a forced abortion law for shit like this
@SUPERTRUPER91111 FIRST, autism isn't proven to be genetic. It's more complex than that. Thus, you couldn't "abort" or "force abortion" for babies you didn't know were going to end up autistic. Duh. Secondly, autism advocates would certainly take offense to what you said. So, U think because someone is autistic they shouldn't live? Well, how about we create laws that put people like you to death? Now that sounds more logical to me, since you appear to be a mental case.
Hitler once enacted Aktion T4 that killed disabled people. Autism is unknown at time when Hitler enacted Aktion T4. It is in 1939. It officialy lasted until 1941. It unofficialy lasted until 1945 when allies occupied germany. It killed about 200,000 people. Some of them are mentally retarded. If today, some of mentally retarded people should be autistic. I knew it is wrong to kill a person.
@SUPERTRUPER91111 what a stuped comment from a person that has no level of education and the ignorance is eating you alive , please if you dont have any positve comment or contructive just dont look and keep you comment to your self .
god bless you he is very hansom we have a 26 yesr old brother whit autism keep him in prayer to we will pray for your son my brohers name is paul ty gblee
um have you ever tried good massage chair? Works kind of like that vibrating wand you gave him in one video, but on a grander scale. A good chair can vibrate super fast light to hard percussive like body being hitting. There is leg unit & I've seen a foot device in some big city streets. Also check out earthclinic website on Autism, especially what a former chemical engineer Ted says.
@lucialamour Have looked at massage chair. Problem: Imagine a sudden, acute savage attack of SIB (self injurious behavior). It would be very difficult to get him into the chair. His punching to head is extremely fast and rapid. I think as a pro-active intervention a massage chair is a great idea. It can even be used for minor sib espisodes, where U R still able to re-direct. Once savage bout of sib begins, re-direction isn't an option. It's all about protection from bodily injury quickly.
I'm about to start work as a carer for a severley autistic boy. Am looking to educate myself (further) on the reality. Thank you for sharing such an important clip.
@stonewindimmortal We have prescribed temporary wrist restraints, but very difficult to get on, once he gets punching himself so fast and hard. It takes 2-3 people to get them on, though I've done it alone, with great difficulty, in an emergency situation. As U R trying to restrain one hand, he's smashing his other fist into head, hence the need for 2 or 3 people to help in this acute savage bout situation of self abuse. Helmet is mostly used for quick protection.
Can he use a computer keyboard or any other means to communicate or is that too difficult for him due to the seizures? You KNOW there's an intelligent young man in there. Is there any way he can let you know what his needs are?
@Graphaks Sadly, his primary mode of communication is to self-abuse. Though, lately, we've noticed he will pull you towards something that he wants to do. He also uses his eyes to give us clues of what he wants. For example, staring at item of food in pantry that he prefers. Other times, difficuult, because the same thing he stared at is the thing he didn't want!
I've seen other nonverbals that like to use a computer to communicate. Have you ever tried that for him or is that something he can't due because of the seizures?
I applaud you mom for having the patience...I have a five year old severely autistic son and he quite violent toward himself and others and thinking he may knock me out when he is older..and thinking that it has to stop..but this remains real..I love my son and I will always be there for him..it is sad to think that some people living with autism are alone..for me it is who he is its his personality..bright bubbly smiling and laughing showing love..that is all real too!!
hes punching himself cause hes living in a constant hell he obviously wants to die... you are cruel to let him live you should be put in his torture for a day u sick fuck
@BowToMySkill: Wake up pal. See the other videos where this SAME person is doing awesome. This young man illuminates the amazing power of the human spirit to survive and progress even in the midst of the extreme intolerance and apathy of others. He has many happy days and will have many more.
My brother is autistic and hits himself which I think is because he was frustrated with himself. I'm wondering why he wasn't given the helmet thing! But now he's taken away to be looked after by trained carers which is for the best because of my poor mother handled way too much! And well, his behaviour seemed to get tons worse each year...
Is that a karate helmet? It looks much thinner then a karate helmet, but maybe it's just the video. A thick karate helmet may protect him more if that's not already what you have. Using a helmet with the face guard can prevent the biting that I've seen in other videos. Best wishes to you for finding something to help your son, you are a very dedicated mother. Google ProForce Thunder Full Head Guard w/ Shield - Red
I can't be sure that he has the same reason I do, but I hurt myself when I'm extremely scared and/or stressed. Never mind, your list explained that. I want him to be happy. I liked your words on the screen. They seemed very well-thought-out. Have you had any success in finding out what he wants or needs? I love him, and I'm glad you do too. Thank you for raising awareness of this important issue in autism. You will be rewarded in heaven. I'm praying for you. Great work.
@AutisticWhoLives4God. My son hits himself for multiple reasons. He's been doing this since age of 2!. Sometimes it hard to believe it's been that long. So long it's obviously become a habit. Experts are always stumped by his behaviors. Best things are to comfort and protect him quickly to prevent injury.
I was diagnosed Autistic at age 4, but now I am 25 nearly 26 and live a normal life. Never was self injurious myself, but man I feel sorry for this guy, and the family involved, at the age he is now he could be working earning a wage, have a girlfriend and killing time having a few beers with his mates.
@Cringle84 Cringle< Yep, it is sad, but he still shows spontaneous progress, for instance, yesterday his teacher said he hit the talk box several times to request craackers! It's so weird, how my son shifts from day to day. Also, I try not to compare him to "normal" kids his age, because there are kids his age who dead, are in jail or on drugs, too. My son is a daily challenge, but he's worth it. He is incredible strong, as in HULK strong. It's really bizzare and fascinating.
@kgaccount True, its like progress, my only concern is about the normal living, drugs and jail is not normal either, Drug usage may be more common but that is the reality of it all as everywhere you go there is always someone who smokes weed or does E's. biggest thing that goes around where I live is weed and LSD, LSD is cheaper than E's here, its pure, and very strong. I had friends who flipped out and ended up in hospital.
@kgaccount ........ and helping your friends who flipped out piece things together is not fun either, even worse when repeated temporary memory loss that happens during the ECT's as you get asked alot of repeated questions like dealing with a dementure patient.
To kgaccount i hope i did'nt offend you with my last remark i have a younger brother who is autistic also i,m not sure how severe it is but he is toilet trained when he was a toddler he adapted very well to it. He has a job too but he does,nt socalize well though my brother was born in 1970 what year was jamiey born?
@johnny10301968 He will go on toilet, but sitting on it often triggers self abuse, even with soft paddings, he just doesn't like the feel of it. he won't sit there long enough to go.
Mianbanana: @mianabanana. My son was in a group home for 4 years. I sent him there AFTER I had worked HARD to reduce his self abuse with a prescribed skin shock therapy. State SWORE they could handle my son without skin shock. Stupid me, believed them. 4 years later, I had to pull him out because staff let beat himself until he suffered a hematoma to ear.

Has he been evaluated by a geneticist? A DNA microarray might reveal gene duplications or deletions that fit in the spectrum of his symptoms and could assist in a treatment plan to better improve his functioning.
To Melanie: This young man is NOT aggressive. He's self injurious. Big difference. However, we aren't morons. We don't just leave her around him alone!!! Helloooo...give us some credit we have some brain cells left (ha ha)
i have watched your videos. you really care about him. I don't think that his niece should be around him. A man in a diaper who punches himself isn't suitable for her
Hi MultiSnooty, thanks for your concern. I find it a bit ironic, however, given your favorite videos are Marliyn Manson and promoting the FN Five Seven 5.7x28 mm. Mr. Manson isn't suitable to listen to. Thanks again. Rock on.
I just wanted to say that you are an amazing mom! You are truly inspiring. I know that you must have bad days, but just hang in there for your son. He is worth it. You and your family are all wonderful and your commitment to your son in undoubtable. You are one of the heroes in this world.
I noticed his seizure activity only (seemed) to begin after he was restrained and no longer hitting himself... do you think he could be hitting himself b/c his head hurts and he is trying to numb the pain of a headache? Just wondering. My son is 3 and headbangs/head rams things. He has high functioning Autism and also craniosinostosis so I have often wondered if his head hurts, I ask him and he will sometimes tell me yes. Did your son have early intervention therapies? What kind, what age? Ty
Sometimes, the head punching itself triggers seizure activty, as you can imagine if we punched our heads, it wouldn't feel good, so perhaps even that combined with the stress just raises the seizure threshold. it's very complicated, but at least we know how to protect him. He'll get better, it will take time. We live in a fast society where people want quick answers to problems like this. This case is not a quick fix. It takes incredible dedication and devotion from school to home to doctors
Ralokone, one of my teen sons spent years in his room stacking legos and lining up toys. When i was little, I wore ear plugs because certain noises drove me crazy. I also detested group projects in school and freaked if interrupted when engrossed in things...does that mean me and my teen son are autistic? Not. JAMEY, is what dozens of doctors have consistently said, is 'primitive" "severe autism" or "profound autism" U don't see this often because most live in state instituions.
Ralokone: The severity of his autism is what's going on here. Sadly, the public has been shown higher functioning sides of autsim so they don't understand complex cases of severe to profound autism. Most think Temple Grandin and the Rain Man are the only autistics. That's why I'm trying to educate people that indeed, there is another side of the spectrum that is largely unknown to public because most autistics like my son are drugged, shackled, isolated and hidden from the public.
When i tell people I have an autistic brother I cringe when they ask me If he is like dustin hoffman in rain man when he is severly autistic and would kill if he could even be at that level. Now that he's 16 he goes into these violent outburts where it takes me and my other brother to restrain him and also his weight was getting out of control but has lost weight since we started locking the cupboards and refridgerator. Well bust of luck to you and your family.
very educational, thank you for posting (and I'm sorry for your pain, but I know that sympathy is often irrelevant). I am assuming since you stated that if myoclonic seizures progress to tonic-clonic then a person should remove the restraints that those seizures were myoclonic?.
Yes, if they are myoclonic jerks that involve the arms, sometimes the 'jerks" are just full body..but yes, that's a good point, I would remove the soccer socks if I felt it arm jerks were present, the difficult thing with my son is his seizures are like a firestorm, it shifts, changes with unknown triggers and then, suddenly he can be calm, or suddenly, begin savagely punching his ears, nose, mouth or face to the point of blooding his face or cutting his ear...you have to be discerning
@kgaccount Thank you. I completely trust that you are the expert on your son. You have done much research and lived through many experiences. You are amazing. Thank you again for the info so I can better understand myoclonic jerks.
I find it more than offensive that SOME neurodiversitys would dare to reduce my son to something outside autism so they can continue their neurodiversity movement. They've even had the audacity to question the documented reality of my son being tested for everything possible from multiple docs, and not ONE doc has ever found anything to explain my son outiside being profoundly to severely autistic. What mean spirited folks they present to be. They must be terrifed of my son's case. Why?
I can't help but comment, when I see so many comments about how you just have to be strong, that not in every society are parents - or one parent - left to deal with this on their own (unless they are rich and can pay for help). It doesn't need to be like it is in America now. We could be supporting these kids and their families so much more as a society if we chose to.
U R so right. It doesn't have to be like this, but it is. The first programs our government cuts are for the disabled, which in my mind is pure evil. Why not cut funds from the mars exploration studies, after all, if we can't take care of the people on EARTH, we shouldn't even be looking for life on other planets....the disabled are truly the forgotten minority, and they represent all races, religions and genders...send these videos to your congress reps...so they see a bit of reality
wow, you have a beautiful son.. he has gorgeous eyes, and he looks like he is a sweetheart. I have a 2 year old that was diagnosed with severe autism this week and i just hope i can be as strong as you are.
Thank you. You will be strong, even in your weakest moments. Believe in yourself and if you have faith, believe God will give you what you need and also know there will be days that you will hate the world and be angry at God and be bitter and tired, and that's okay.....we are not given an easy road...it's okay to have moments when you feel like the falling on the floor and crying..but know that others are thinking of you..and are here for you and we love you and know what you are going through
Thank you all for your kind comments. Yes, I think my son is adorable, too...I'm trying hard to help him feel better and enjoy his life....I so appreciate you watching and hope this helps others understand severe autism , self injury and seizure activity...I've often been angry at God for giving us so much to deal with in one child, but maybe it's all for reasons I can't understand in my human mind
My heart breaks for you. I don't know how you do it. It is a testament to the depth of the love you have for your son. I will pray for both of you every day AND I will fight against any cuts for respite care in any way I can. God bless you!
This basketcase of a boy? He's got more wits about him than half of us, sir. He's here to teach us love, compassion, resilence, tolerance for mindboggling event and to toughen us all up. Think about it. If we, as a soceity, can't handle this, what else can't we handle? These are the cases which are the boot camps of life...we learn and make great discoveries and find answers with cases like this.

My husband is in Iraq and I tell him every day about what new Jamey video I saw. You are the one that needs prayers Mr as you are holier than thou for no reason.
rainnken2000 1 month ago
The sad thing is when people, whether it be intentionally done or done out of lack of proper knowledge, call people with autism "retarded". That's not to say that some people who do have autism aren't mentally handicapped, but everyone on that spectrum shouldn't be lumped together like that. Even then, some who are really handicapped have savant abilities.
chancehazebrown 1 month ago
Although cases like this definitly still exist, and are very sad, it is good that some people who would have been severe or profoundly autistic are now mild or moderatly autistic because of early intervention and improving therapies. I think cases like this will be around for a long time though, as some cases are just so severe and complex that no therapy can make the individual improve to an extent where they could have some self care skills.

@kgaccount doing very well -- she is 13 and such a cutie; non verbal, classic severe autism. I want you to know your videos are very informative and often beautiful, so touching. I'll visit often. God bless you and your beautiful family!
megansspark 5 months ago
He beats himself in the head, and has frequent seizures, have you considered the two may be related? If he KNOWS a seizure is coming (which he can learn to relate a certain feeling to a oncoming seizure I'm sure) he could be literally trying to beat it out of himself. It seems like you assume it's just a compulsion, but it still could be CAUSED by some kind of trigger that you aren't able to be aware of.
xxagoraphobic 5 months ago
@xxagoraphobic Underlying seizure activity is only ONE antecedent to some incidents of SIB. Yes, we know they can trigger SIB, but we've also seen seizure activity STOP SIB. His case shows how complex this behavior is in some severely autistic persons.

eastender86 8 months ago
@eastender86 Who says? You? God uses the weak and seemingly not meant to live people of the world to confuse the so called wise. ALL autistic individuals have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. No matter how bleak the situation may appear. THere is always hope.
kgaccount 2 months ago 4
@kgaccount There is no happiness in this person whatsoever. The self harm shows us the fact he doesn't want to live. Keeping people alive in that kind of condition is pure torture which I'm afraid is absolutely never justifiable. As for who decides, natural selection does.
eastender86 2 months ago
@eastender86 There is no happiness in my autistic son, you claim? How incredibly ignorant and myopic.

Those of us with Autism are very sensitive to the outside world. The sensory overload could be a problem. Have you ever looked at which situations make your son calm. Those are heaven for someone with autism.
Isochest 1 year ago
@Isochest Yep, water. Too bad he isn't a fish. He can't stay in water all day. However, on days where nothing else worked, I tell all involved in his care, screw it, just keep stripping him down and if he's obsessing on going back to bath, let him. It takes a lot of work, and nurses and others sometimes resent this, but if that's what works, that's what we do. And yes, you are right, sensory calming interventions are a little piece of heaven for autistic since our world is so chaotic and loud.

@TiffieTube Oh, I'm sorry! I know how frustrating it is to see your child hurt themselves. It's a horrible, helpless feeling, but there is hope. They need a LOT of different interventions. bonesmccoy1 1 year ago

SUPERTRUPER91111 1 year ago

If today, some of mentally retarded people should be autistic. um have you ever tried good massage chair? Works kind of like that vibrating wand you gave him in one video, but on a grander scale. A good chair can vibrate super fast light to hard percussive like body being hitting. There is leg unit & I've seen a foot device in some big city streets. Also check out earthclinic website on Autism, especially what a former chemical engineer Ted says.
lucialamour 1 year ago
@lucialamour Have looked at massage chair. Problem: Imagine a sudden, acute savage attack of SIB (self injurious behavior). It would be very difficult to get him into the chair. His punching to head is extremely fast and rapid. I think as a pro-active intervention a massage chair is a great idea. It can even be used for minor sib espisodes, where U R still able to re-direct. Once savage bout of sib begins, re-direction isn't an option. It's all about protection from bodily injury quickly.

Graphaks 1 year ago
@Graphaks Sadly, his primary mode of communication is to self-abuse. Though, lately, we've noticed he will pull you towards something that he wants to do. He also uses his eyes to give us clues of what he wants. For example, staring at item of food in pantry that he prefers. Other times, difficuult, because the same thing he stared at is the thing he didn't want!
kgaccount 1 year ago
I've seen other nonverbals that like to use a computer to communicate. Have you ever tried that for him or is that something he can't due because of the seizures?

You know he hits his head like I have hit mine against the wall.

Cringle84 1 year ago
@Cringle84 Cringle< Yep, it is sad, but he still shows spontaneous progress, for instance, yesterday his teacher said he hit the talk box several times to request craackers! It's so weird, how my son shifts from day to day. Also, I try not to compare him to "normal" kids his age, because there are kids his age who dead, are in jail or on drugs, too. My son is a daily challenge, but he's worth it. He is incredible strong, as in HULK strong. It's really bizzare and fascinating.
kgaccount 1 year ago 2
@kgaccount True, its like progress, my only concern is about the normal living, drugs and jail is not normal either, Drug usage may be more common but that is the reality of it all as everywhere you go there is always someone who smokes weed or does E's. biggest thing that goes around where I live is weed and LSD, LSD is cheaper than E's here, its pure, and very strong. I had friends who flipped out and ended up in hospital.
Cringle84 1 year ago
@kgaccount ........ and helping your friends who flipped out piece things together is not fun either, even worse when repeated temporary memory loss that happens during the ECT's as you get asked alot of repeated questions like dealing with a dementure patient.

To kgaccount i hope i did'nt offend you with my last remark i have a younger brother who is autistic also i,m not sure how severe it is but he is toilet trained when he was a toddler he adapted very well to it. Kgaccount i hope you don't think i,m being weird but is there a reason why he is'nt toilet trained?
johnny10301968 1 year ago

Ty
patrick95350 1 year ago
Sometimes, the head punching itself triggers seizure activty, as you can imagine if we punched our heads, it wouldn't feel good, so perhaps even that combined with the stress just raises the seizure threshold. it's very complicated, but at least we know how to protect him. He'll get better, it will take time. We live in a fast society where people want quick answers to problems like this. This case is not a quick fix. It takes incredible dedication and devotion from school to home to doctors
kgaccount 1 year ago
Ralokone, one of my teen sons spent years in his room stacking legos and lining up toys. When i was little, I wore ear plugs because certain noises drove me crazy. I also detested group projects in school and freaked if interrupted when engrossed in things...does that mean me and my teen son are autistic? Not. JAMEY, is what dozens of doctors have consistently said, is 'primitive" "severe autism" or "profound autism" U don't see this often because most live in state instituions.
kgaccount 1 year ago
Ralokone: The severity of his autism is what's going on here. Sadly, the public has been shown higher functioning sides of autsim so they don't understand complex cases of severe to profound autism. Most think Temple Grandin and the Rain Man are the only autistics. That's why I'm trying to educate people that indeed, there is another side of the spectrum that is largely unknown to public because most autistics like my son are drugged, shackled, isolated and hidden from the public.
kgaccount 1 year ago

Weisenheimer78 1 year ago
Yes, if they are myoclonic jerks that involve the arms, sometimes the 'jerks" are just full body..but yes, that's a good point, I would remove the soccer socks if I felt it arm jerks were present, the difficult thing with my son is his seizures are like a firestorm, it shifts, changes with unknown triggers and then, suddenly he can be calm, or suddenly, begin savagely punching his ears, nose, mouth or face to the point of blooding his face or cutting his ear...you have to be discerning
kgaccount 1 year ago

These are the cases which are the boot camps of life...we learn and make great discoveries and find answers with cases like this.
