i have a golden he LOVES TO HUNT HARES but i dont shoot it i let him get it him self.I want to no if its normal to do this cuz alot of people say a golden is breed to retrieve not to hunt by its self
Enjoyed watching your video. I have a german shothair pointer of 17 months and i just finished his basictraining for the hunt. This autumn he will be my compagnon in the fields. Looking foreward for the huntingseason here in Belgium. Best regards and waidmannsheil !
This guy in the video is a good guy. Member of the VDD here in the states. His name is Kit Critchlow and he has his own website and kennel vom Desert Dancer.
German Wirehairs are tremendous hunting dogs. When hunting Hungarian Partridges in open stubble fields in late November in Alberta, my GWP has scented coveys at distances over 200 meters out, as the cool keeps the scent trapped low to the ground. The only problem then is trying to control your excitement as you advance into the scent cone toward the covey.
Working up slope into the sinking cool air under these conditions is just deadly.
they just don't have the nose, and their fur is to long if your hunting bird, because it will get burs on it, and it's hard to find ticks on the dog with the long fur
i expect you could use em to track with, dunno what mateys talking about they dont have the nose, they have better noses than greyhounds and gh's have good enough noses to track and find most stuff. if trained i would think a husky could track chase and bay, but not much of a chase and catch dog.
I love GSPs! I have two and found this video very informative. I don't hunt, but the dogs do. Now I understand the circling maneuver, etc.. Thank you! Take a look at my monsters - a lot of work :)

no, they are not hunting dogs, though every dog has hunting instinct in their nature.
