To the religious commentors below. God is most certainly real. I burnt my toast and saw jesus on it one time. God put it there. Then i put butter on the toast and ate jesus' head.
"Sea lions appear to hunt sunfish for sport, tearing the fins off, tossing the body around, and then simply abandoning the still-living but helpless fish to die on the seafloor." Suddenly, gang of sea lions.
@curtgowdysharkhunter No, that's how you know evolution is a fact. Purpose does not denote intelligent design in any way. It just denotes adaptation to fill a specific hole in a food chain.
@autocon2002 evolution is not fact, if evolution was fact then no species of animal would have ever gone extinct, because if evolution were true than that animal would evolve to survive in any situation, and if evolution were true every animal would be perfect...including us
@curtgowdysharkhunter So you would attribute extinction to acts of an all-powerful being that, despite being infallible and perfect in every way, would create beings in its own image that regularly need to have this little thing called an APPENDIX removed, because it serves no purpose and can become infected?
Irreducible Complexity, my ass. Take out your appendix. You still live just fine. Therefore, you're reducible.
@autocon2002 remember jesus was perfect, God gives us things like appendix so that they may absorb toxins in our body and prevent us from having a little something called liver failure, we as humans are not perfect, because God gave you free will, you are aloud to say what ever you want, but all actions come with a consiquence, good or bad
@curtgowdysharkhunter I don't actually remember that, and neither do you. Stop falling back on that tired old book for answers. Think for yourself, for once.
@autocon2002 wow and ur an athiest so you cant prove anything, and dont give me that garbage about "we dont believe in anything" because you BELIEVE that there is no God, you BELIEVE that there is no life after death, the fact is their are to many things that happen such as the child who drowned for 20 minutes, and the whole beach got on there knees and prayed and the child was found 20 minutes later fully revived after spending 20 minutes sucking in water, u guys call them coincidences.
@curtgowdysharkhunter they are coincidences your "prayers" had nothing at all to do with it. you're all ignorant idiots when something obvious happens you go " oh it was jesus" thats horse shit, why did my step dad's brother die of a gunshot wound he should'nt have his whole side of the family are religious retards and they wasted multiple hours of every day to pray, yet you can take a visit to the graveyard and find the remains or 23 year old police officer Aaron Cox, where was your "god" then?
@MethIsGoodForTeeth just because you pray doesent mean no ones gonna die. Just remember If nothing bad happened on this earth it would be heaven. No one gets out of hear alive. There is an old saying "The devil patrols earth seeking anyone for whom he may devour" that means the more you push God out of your life, the more the devil steps in. The fact is their are to many things that happen on this planet for them to be coincidences. You know God exists, but you are angry so you refuse to-
@curtgowdysharkhunter you're a fucking idiot if god were real he wouldn't have created "the devil"god does not exist and you have %0 proof that he does. i have an awesome life and i haven't believed in god since i was 6 years old because i had too many questions that the church wouldn't answer all idiot christians are the same, you avoid everything that isn't in your favor when someone has questions rather than thinking, you call it "blasphemy" christianity will die just like the other religions
@curtgowdysharkhunter cause and effect?? haha you're a fucking idiot cause and effect isn't something you can "believe" in you fucking retard it's simple fact. god isn't real if his fake ass would've created me i wouldn't be able to question "him". "god" is a fake entity that some power hungry retards came up with so they could control the layman by saying "god wants you to do it"or "if you don't do this god will frown upon you"
@ron2929 You don't think that your logic is overly flawed? People are comparing inanimate objects to an apex predator. Which you also are but in the wrong way. For your theory to have merit shouldn't you then compare shark attacks to drowning, coral death, something also aquatic? It's like saying, "oh the fact I got killed by a coconut whilst next to a wild Jaguar is nothing, there were two coconuts.... twice as much chance."
yes Smellikemespirit but there are good shark attack sites on the net too. the liksharks site has lots of attack videos, but also has research on each shark species and information about extinction of sharks. Type likesharks into google and its the first result
@AudioVisionNG OH no I was referring to it being in captivity... I've seen one off Catalina Island while diving, they are much happier in the open spaces. But then what isn't, I think they are a magnificent creature and looking at them is truly wondrous.
i went on a field trip once to an aquarium in florida that had one of these. i didn't see it at first, but then i saw it inside a hole in a rock and it looked like it was staring at me. kinda scared me since i was like 8 years old xP
I think the argument that being killed by lightning, or a coconut is flawed when compared to being killed by a great white, or any shark for that matter. Us as humans live such a huge portion of our lives on land as you may well know, and spend such a microscopic portion of our lives in territories that potential man eating sharks occupy. Therefore, I would simply argue that if humans spent 50% of their lives on land, and 50% at sea, death totals would vastly lean toward sharks instead of etc.
@ron2929 Well, the point is, we *don't* spend enough time in water for shark attacks to be a meaningful cause of death in the statistical sense. In the individual sense, yes, they're meaningful, but in the grand scheme of things, most of us can expect to never encounter one in a dangerous situation. So why people insist upon freaking out about them and trying to kill them off (any type of shark really) is beyond me, considering how terribly important they are to the ocean ecology.
@danaseilhan I would guess that people in most cases kill sharks not out of fear, but in self interest to make money in some sort of market. Along the way, I am sure the ecological repercussions are almost never considered. Furthermore, while statistically improbable sharks attacks do happen they are opportunistic feeders, so fearing one is in no sense illogical.
@ron2929 well, kinda, out here in los angeles we occasionally get great whites when they migrate, i went out one day with my paddle board out in santa barbara when i saw a shark swim under me...immediately i knew i cause attention with all the paddling so i stopped...it still circled me and bumped the board a few times, but then it got board and swam away, and i paddled my ass outta there haha, they are smart hunters, i think they know what they should bite and what not to bite
@ron2929 Spot on mate. Furthermore I'd ask a conservationist; if it was your relative torn in half by a shark down the beach; would you still argue for their protection?
@ron2929 did u know that more people a year get killed by vending machines then by sharks they are act friendly fish they dont usually attack humans but even if u are bleeding and in water with a shark u have a better chance of being struck by lightning then it attacking u
@ron2929 what scientific evidence do you have to make that claim? None. So dont say something as stupid as that if you have nothing to back it up. Sharks are very intelligent animals that know what they want to eat. In almost all unprovoked attacks the shark rarely goes back for a second bite because it realizes that that person was not what it thought it was. Don't be ignorant.
@xbryceiszardx FIrst of all, what would qualify as a provoked shark attack? Nestling up in a seal suit at Seal Island and taking a dive? All shark attacks are unprovoked dumb ass. Secondly, you missed the point of the argument. If humans were amphibious, then naturally sharks would prey on us, because there would be familiarity. Instinctively it is unwise to try and consume unfamiliar substances in nature, for various reasons. That is not to say it doesn't happen.
@ron2929 Good points there! It's true that we hardly spend any time in the water, and if we DID spend more time in the water, we probably would get killed by more sharks. Just like if we lived by coconut trees more than we do now, we'd get killed/injured by falling coconuts more often as well.
I believe the point 'statisticians' are trying to make, is that of all the ways to die 'on average', you're more likely to die by lightning strike (or what have you) than a shark.
ugh i hate zoo's and aquariums. these animals belong in the wild, not in a cage. no matter if the aquarium is big, it's not the same as the blue sea...
@GlamourHollywood But what if the animals get hunted????? Some zoos and aquariums have conservation programs where they rescue injured animals and keep them in captivity and nurse them back to health. Then when the animal is finally healthy again they release them bak to the wild.
Their skin is comprised of 8 inches of solid collagen embedded with moving blood parasites. Dead molas will twitch and squirm for hours after death because of all of the parasites livig under its skin. Look up sunfish meat or sunfish skin on marine biology research sites. Scary stuff. Never eat sunfish, even on a dare.
people with their fucking flashes are annoying as fuck. dont they say "do not use flash photography" somewhere there, its been more than 10 years since ive been to this aquarium
@AQWxXkillnoobsXx They can get bigger. Mola Molas (scientific name for sunfish) can grow the size of up to two and a half VW Beetles Stacked on top of each other. This one that i have seen as well and its slightly smaller
The cool thing is that the sunfish is of no threat to humans. Amazing creature. I went to the aquarium Sunday, and it wasn't there, so I bought the plushie instead. ^_^
Great Whites do have a high failure rate in Aquariums, if you listen even the lady explains this shark has only been in the aquarium for 3 months. Hopefully they release is soon as these magnificent creatures are threatened and should be preserved.
this is a ocean sunfish it grows to 11 ft. and can LAY UP TO 1,000,000,000 AT THE SMAE TIME! i am in the 5ht grade and i know this becaouse im doing a project about it :)!!
I'm talking about aquariums, not water parks. Aquariums are necessary for education, and research purposes. If it's a good aquarium it will treat it's animals well concerning the captive situation, and will continue to educate the public concerning ocean preservation. Until human beings pull our heads out of our asses and start taking better care of the earth aquariums are the best shot these critters have.
same thing goes for these jack asses who chum for sharks so they can see one from the "safety"of a cage. What do you get?? A shark who follows dive boats in search of a meal.
well there will be one less boat captain this year oh yeah and trainerTrust me when you go for a swim with them in the ocean, you can see the difference between a "free" fish and a captive one.Shame on us for trying to capitolize on something that belongs in the wild. How many more trainers need to die.The whales killed because they were sick of that lady poking them with a stick.grabbed her by her ponytail and drowned her
I got an email about that this morning. Dolphin right? I agree that dolphin captivity is a cruel habit, funded by dolphin slaughter. It's sick. And I've no doubt that marine animals are happier in the actual ocean.
Here's my thing. The oceans are so fucked up right now, what with all the chemicals we're throwing in etc that they're dying. Until we wake up as a species, aquariums are the best chance marine species have of getting their voices heard....
oh man, I remember the first time I ever saw a sunfish. I had to have been 7 or 8 and the thing came out of nowhere in the Seaworld aquarium. Swam so close to the glass I panicked. Swore it was going to break it. Those things freaked me out for quite a few years after that.
first time i saw one (and the only time i saw one so far) was wen i was like nine or something and i went fishing and my dad was listening to the radio (the one that fishermen use to talk to eachother) and ppl kept saying their was a sunfish and a few minutes later we saw a giant black fin stickng outta the water and my dad told me it as a sunfish but i only got to see the tail fin

The cool thing is that the sunfish is of no threat to humans. Amazing creature. I went to the aquarium Sunday, and it wasn't there, so I bought the plushie instead. ^_^

@AnAutumnWind: that wasn't a lazer. It was the 'pre flash' of a camera. Mine does the same.

Never fails. There is always some jerk with a laser pointer ruining things for eveyone.
AnAutumnWind 1 year ago
Great Whites do have a high failure rate in Aquariums, if you listen even the lady explains this shark has only been in the aquarium for 3 months. Hopefully they release is soon as these magnificent creatures are threatened and should be preserved.

I'm talking about aquariums, not water parks. Aquariums are necessary for education, and research purposes. If it's a good aquarium it will treat it's animals well concerning the captive situation, and will continue to educate the public concerning ocean preservation. Until human beings pull our heads out of our asses and start taking better care of the earth aquariums are the best shot these critters have.
wannabedesi 1 year ago
same thing goes for these jack asses who chum for sharks so they can see one from the "safety"of a cage. What do you get?? A shark who follows dive boats in search of a meal.
lvpeckerwood 1 year ago
shouldnt you turn off the flashlight of your cameras in an Aquarium so that the fish dont go blind???

a truly sad Sunfish, goes to show ,most humans destroy anything they get their hands on ,truly sad,you bastards
lvpeckerwood 2 years ago
Actually that's one less sunfish killed by an oil spill or caught in a net.
wannabedesi 1 year ago
well there will be one less boat captain this year oh yeah and trainerTrust me when you go for a swim with them in the ocean, you can see the difference between a "free" fish and a captive one.Shame on us for trying to capitolize on something that belongs in the wild. How many more trainers need to die.The whales killed because they were sick of that lady poking them with a stick.grabbed her by her ponytail and drowned her
lvpeckerwood 1 year ago
I got an email about that this morning. Dolphin right? I agree that dolphin captivity is a cruel habit, funded by dolphin slaughter. It's sick. And I've no doubt that marine animals are happier in the actual ocean.
Here's my thing. The oceans are so fucked up right now, what with all the chemicals we're throwing in etc that they're dying. Until we wake up as a species, aquariums are the best chance marine species have of getting their voices heard....
wannabedesi 1 year ago
You can tell if the sunfish is sad, how?
You must have had a great time with them in the ocean.

Poor Sunfish.

No aquarium can properly house a Great White.
intelligentjackass 2 years ago
That's true, which is why the Monterey Bay Aquarium catches Whites, holds them for a few months for research, and then releases them.
I'm more concerned with the uses of Cetaceans in water parks...

The average Sun Fish is 13 feet from the pectoral fin to the dorsal fin and about the same in length
TheBlacktigerTv 2 years ago
That sunfish is maginificent. If anyone ever catches a live Megalodon shark, that would be amazing.

oh man, I remember the first time I ever saw a sunfish. I had to have been 7 or 8 and the thing came out of nowhere in the Seaworld aquarium. Swam so close to the glass I panicked. Swore it was going to break it. Those things freaked me out for quite a few years after that.
Amarianee 2 years ago
first time i saw one (and the only time i saw one so far) was wen i was like nine or something and i went fishing and my dad was listening to the radio (the one that fishermen use to talk to eachother) and ppl kept saying their was a sunfish and a few minutes later we saw a giant black fin stickng outta the water and my dad told me it as a sunfish but i only got to see the tail fin
