Man, I could almost cry watching this. Remembering how awesome shit used to be, having to outlive our heroes, watching the years drag on and the scene changing -usually for the worse. Just glad I was there for the best of it. It was the greatest time ever, and it will never pass this way again. Thanks for the memories. You fuckers are missed.
All you kids don't know what you missed out on. I grew up in LA in the 70's and early 80's and spent every weekend in clubs like The Whiskey, Rainbow Bar and Grill, Anti Club and My Place. The thing then was you got to actually party and drink with the likes of Mike Ness, Excene Cervenka, John Doe, Janette Napolatano. And I even met Rodney Bingenheimer several times in the clubs. It was a great time that changed the face of music forever.
I wish I still had had my 45 from back in those days. They were giving em out at the shows and it had 1945 on one side and Under my Thumb on the other. Kicked ASS.
That would be Derek O'Brien on the drums during this era of the band (during which the Another State Of Mind tour took place). He left the band with Brent Liles (bassist in this video/era) on New Year's Eve 1984 after Mike Ness accepted heroin from the promoter as payment for that show instead of money, leaving the rest of the band unpaid. O'Brien and Liles later played together in Agent Orange, and O'Brien also played with D.I. and The Adolescents.
@dnzg66 There was a much longer video on Youtube that this was a part of, I'm not sure if it's still up though. It was shown on public access tv I'm pretty sure.
@BarrioPunkRock Kind of a mixed answer. In the very earliest days of Social D, the Agnews and Casey Royer were members and that's when the song Amoeba was written. Mike wrote the music and Casey Royer wrote the lyrics. After that lineup split up and Mike brought Dennis on board, he changed the lyrics to the current 1945, while the Adolescents kept on playing it as Amoeba.
@BarrioPunkRock Yeah pretty much... at least at first. The Adolescents have changed the arrangement a little, but if you listen to Amoeba you'll hear the similarity right away. A good example on youtube is the video of their show at the Galaxy in 06 where they play Amoeba.
@ghostodarb Actually this song came out before amoeba..the guitar brothers and the drummer left Social D to start The Adoescents,so if anything Amoeba is like 1945
mike ness the best...great song...all bandmates are amazing...the drummer has toured w/adolescents...I've been at a pair of their shows:he still kicks ass...
No this was 1983. This was shot after they recorded Mommy's Little Monster, which was done on Dec 24 1982. Plus they play Another State of Mind which wasn't written until the tour in '82.
great practice, lucky u have the fuckin video! Its funny, cuz when ever i think of social distortion, Greasers pop into my head. You gotta agree they look some what like it.
wow. Mike has no tattoo at all
