@PaulyPoker I agree with you Paul and I can see why Merle Haggard would record a song like this, it sounded like something that he would have written. such pretty story song again dolly telling out story from the perspective of a song...love her
I THE RCA YEARS ages ago (and about three apartments ago!), not sure where it is now, but I didn't recall that "Kentucky Gambler" was on it, I guess I should try to track it down. Thanks!
By the way, this has become my current favourite YouTube clip. Current view count is 70, and I think 65 of this viewings must have been me. It's terrific!
I kinda adopted this song as my own since I was a kid. I'm from Kentucky and when I was little I just thought it was so cool Dolly had a song about my home. Lol. That was before I knew of Blackie Kentucky.
You're lucky, TWO great songs to choose between. I'm from Massachusetts, so I guess I'd have to choose between "Please Come to Boston" or the old Bee Gees' song "Massachusetts".
Thank you for posting this! One of Dolly's best story songs, AMAZINGLY, this is not available on any album anymore (THE BARGAIN STORE went out of print years ago, and RCA never included it on any of Dolly's many compilation albums). So thanks for posting it, so great to hear it again!
