  • I sang with Gregg Baker during our high school years in Chicago. Back then it was obvious to all that this guy was going places.

  • @pachydermo Wish that this had been the full version, but guess for now we'll have to settle for wonderful Mr. Baker's partial. Lucky you to have sung with him back in the day! Thanks so much for your comment. More to follow from me..

  • Very beautiful. And he's cute, too! ;)

  • @cindigrrlx Ya think?

  • @varadero1839 Gregg Baker is a world class talent ! His rendition of Old Man River is magnificant and by far the best I've heard !

  • @vagabond812 ... have to agree , great resonance , poise

  • Wow... just wow! Incredible!

  • @GodsFavoriteBassPlyr Thanks for your notice! Mr. Baker is kind of a force of nature. Again, honored to hear from you!

  • It's amazing!

  • @mortitkarsag I agree, and am grateful to hear from you! His performance is one not easily forgotten, much like the song. Thanks so much!

  • Am I the only one who finds it irritating that he smirks from time to time while performing this? It adds a bright element to the piece, I feel. Which ruins it for me.

  • @TheCupcakeGeisha The message of the song is clear, and there are more versions in Youtube. That is a good observation, as far as I concerned, I keep seeing this video to hear his magnificent voice.

  • @TheCupcakeGeisha I think it's kinda sexy!

  • Imádom ezt a számot !!!!!

  • dang, i personally think Ray Charles lived this song and shows his soul through every word! (IF you take away the choir in his version on You Tube it would be total perfection!)

  • What a strong voice! specially at the end. One of my favorites versions of "Old man river".

  • Again, I am speechless! That voice has wings! I can close my eyes and visualize it breaking through the sound barrier, soaring up into the heavens dancing, floating, tumbling, resonating, and echoing through the vastness of space. Did I say I was speechless? Guess not. Wow! What a Voice!

  • Wonderful

  • god, this guy rocks

  • Taye Zonday should do a cover of this...CHOCOLATE RIVER!!

  • @cyberdon2001 TAy zondays voice is'nt low enough to sing like that

  • @madamerotten Thank you madamerotten! Mr. Baker is an amazing talent, and I hope to be able to find more examples of his incredible voice and presence!

  • I have a copy of him singing a song for a local Chicago TV station when he was about 17! It's great.

  • Baker has LONG been one of our finest and most underrated baritones:) --

  • @stevevandien Still waiting for an appearance on the West Coast! I'm a big fan, but have never seen him live. Thank you so much steveandien!

  • @varadero1839 O gosh, hard to believe that such a fine singer has been out your way! Don't worry, though, he'll get there:) -- Best, Steve

  • @stevevandien he's not a baritone, he's a bass, which makes it better. there's very few true basses out there.

  • @albobfosho I am told i'm a true bass whats a true basses range?

  • Wonderfully performed! It gave me goose bumps!

  • @aquamarina67 He tends to have that affect on many people; myself included! Thanks so much for your notice!

  • Bravo!!! He has very strong and beautiful voice!

  • @ANDRUSHKA2009 Indeed he does, and thank you so much for your comment!

  • Great voice!

  • absoultely perfect !!!!

  • Amazing

  • I was in the choir in Pittsburgh last year for a reduction of Showboat, and Gregg Baker was singing Joe.... The first time he even SPOKE, Heinz Hall gasped collectively -- every night for a week. It never failed. He's amazing.

  • Grateful to hear from you! You're luckier than I in that you've seen him perform live! I've just been kind of an "admirer" from afar. With a couple of other fine folks, I seem to be one of a very few who've noticed his incredible gifts, and uploaded them on YT. When you have some free time please just watch "Red-Headed Woman!" from Porgy and Bess. This is one of those clips that defy description!

    Best regards,

    varadero

  • @erincamilla I was in the show as well, Marvin Hamlish couldnt have picked a better man for the job

  • I saw him in a musical in cambridge and FELL IN LOVE WITH HIS VOICE !!! He's so fucking amazing <3

  • Wow! Talk about making a joyful noise. Praise the Lord!

  • He has most beautiful voice for this song. He's a phenomenal showman singing live as well. Unbelievable.

  • Gregg Baker's sons attend the High School that I do. One day on the night of his oldest sons concert Gregg (senior) walked in and scared the living hell out of me! He's really tall. 6'5!

  • me and my mum have been looking for this man since we first heard him , he reduce me and the rest of the girls in the room to tears , hes amzing

  • Wonderful! A worthy heir of Paul Robeson's tradition! Thanks a million for posting, varadero!
