I was a strong supporter for Ron Paul until I saw this video. I do understand what he is saying, but the laws were passed to protect the disabled, because we kept getting discriminated against. I shouldn't have to deal with the degrading and humiliating treatment, and harassment, just because we are disabled and/or use a service animal.
As for the disabled parking issue, those parking places were put there to make sure a disabled person has the same access opportunities to the building. I am sorry my rights for equal access, trumps your laziness!
We have a right to enjoy the same things everyone else takes for granted. I do hate government interference, but sometimes, its the government is the only thing that can help guarantee that right to equal treatment.
Ron Paul supporters need to realize something. The way government has been going, we've been giving out freedom to as many people as possible. Ron Paul, however, wants more freedom for fewer people. Does that sound fair to you?
Jack: A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.
I agree with a fair amount of what he says. It's a shame society has become so reliant on the Federal government to just babysit us on every little issue. Self-government and self-responsibility needs to be exercised.
Awww, poor Dr. Paul the poor poor doctor who was in a hurry but couldn't park in the handicap spaces. Yeah, I see a very bright future for disabled people under a Ron Paul administration.
He's the asshole who takes up the space when the disabled folks need them.
@localarmvenue No, we don't boycott them. Get a petition started. If enough members of the community disagree with the actions of the electric company, then hopefully they'll respond. If they don't, then replace the people who rule the electric company.
@insomnicidex6x Wait.. who replaces the people who rule the electric company? Why would the rulers of the electric company be replaced if they made a company more profitable while retaining their customer base?
He's talking about the empowerment of the disabled: you have the exact same rights as anyone else, and if you don't like the way you are treated in a private business, BOYCOTT and use the free market to your advantage.
@starbucks4989 oh what a bunch of hogwash. The "free market" and "private business" have NO rights, only PEOPLE do, Ron Paul simply does not get that!
@Yankhadenough uhm, if people have rights, and all private business is owned by said people with rights, than by proxy, those businesses have rights as well
I think some of you are misinterpreting him. he is not saying its okay to discriminate against disabled people, He's saying The issue would regulate itself & will be naturally taken care of, you can sue a private company or it will lose customer support if it does not treat all people equally. Basically fed. gov. doesn't even need to step in to the private sector with a strong hand here & control business, because its not necessary in order for fair treatment. separate gov & big business
@NinaisAlive We tried giving private business a free hand, when they do they choose the most profitable/efficient route which often involves pollution, unequal hiring practices, and reduced safety measures.
It's how we ended up with all the laws and agencies we in place to prevent these things happening.
So, how many people should be unable to wipe their asses in public before that boycotts works that forces a business to move their toilet paper roll 6 inches allowing the disabled to reach it.
I don't always agree with Ron Paul, but the fact that he has this video shows that he's a thinking man with a heart. Find a solution, maybe he won't agree with you - but this an opportunity to have a say - who knows who is reading it? How long that opportunity is open is the question.
For me, I would like to find a lawyer who is not serving the system. Someone who can help me to find personal solutions for me. (I'm ineligible for SSDI).
In the US the people who are accused of disability are getting the short end of the stick. Too many selective demands to a wide encompassing field with too few choices. I will agree with Ron Paul that the government and the media is killing us with details and is ignoring the forest.
I would support a network (wideworld, if you want) to find SOLUTIONS rather than demands. The first choice is a personal letter to business owner with choices. (Then we can protest. Ha! Ha!)
Big, important changes to society, like equal treatment for people with disabilities, never get made by consensus. The fact is that there are MANY business owners who wouldn't care that they were boycotted.
Ron Paul's idea of "freedom" is actually pre-Magna Carta feudalism, when the lords and nobles had no restraints on their privileged abuses of the masses (who had NO rights), when sick and disabled simply suffered, or died if they were lucky
Instead of getting rid of the federal government, why not try to improve it? Most corporations aren't going to care about fair treatment and equal opportunities, without a government telling them they have to.
ADA - good idea, bad implementation, hurts small business in a big way, and ends the dialog between business owners and their patrons. ADA did a LOT of damage to businesses in my small county, and it was not necessary. some of the restrictions of the ADA are just dumb, and make no sense. many of the handicapped here in my area are displeased with it!

If I may quote Fight Club on this point.

So when the electric company discriminates against someone with a disability, we'll all just boycott and light our homes some other way?

Its very simple, each state can choose to pass a law that behaves in the same way as ADA does. It just won't be enforced by the federal government.
