people who use this type of camera are more likely to have an sd card???? that's a big negative dickhead cos i have a 40d with a cf card and have now got to buy a different card to use this haven't i? Making it compatible with both cards would have helped people a lot more canon...
this 60/600d is a marketing series..and it puts a canon wise costumer in a problem. 550-600d are exactly the same besides that flip-screen..and the 60d cant be compered to the 7d although the 60d has its benefits..are you uncertain of which one to buy? between the 550-600d i say go for the 600d because of the screen and ofcourse the factory release date..besides, in IL the 600d is 75 usd more than the 550d so its worth the trouble..between the 60-7d i say wait for the next release
Just got the 60D yesterday! such a good camera, i used watch these videos dreaming about getting the 60D or 7D now i got the 60D its allgood, flag the other cameras canon 60D is it !! trust me as a first DSLR you cant go wrong!!
@taneli2288 actually he didn't say "actually" all that much. He just actually stated all the facts. Actually, now that I think of it, I don't actually remember him using the word "actually" at all. So I don't actually understand your comment...

With that said, It didn't influence my decision to purchase this camera and I'm very glad that I did! It's a great camera and I sit here and wait for my Vertical battery grip to arrive :)
Hi help is urgently needed! I purchased a Canon EOS 60D camera with a Compact flash memory card. Does this mean I won't be able to store photos on this memory card? Is it not compatible?
hey can someone help me... i'm a film maker.. i always make short movie and lot more... just want to ask is this camera good for video shooting because i want to find a camera can shot video and can be playback at big screen with great quality video..
Nice enough video, but for Cliffs sake sort out the audio. Surely you could have silenced all that ambient noise in post? Even a Zoom H4N up close, next to the cam would have been better.
I have 50d and i can say that 50d is much better than 60d. 50d body's is magnesium alloy compare to 60d with plastic not weather proof. The screen even you can move it the way you want it is very fragile. It looks like an improvement of 550d.
What kind of plastic has been used for the 60D? I'm still deciding whether I should get the 550D or 60D. I've been a user of the 550D for almost 9 months now, and it feels rather cheap yet awesome. I just need more than just those basics. I don't usually go for shooting photos, but I'm more into films. I'm sellin' away my 550D as me and my family are having some money problems. I'm in need of your help, should I stick with the 550D or go for 60D?
@robblac Don't get the wrong idea buddy. We're slowly getting back to where we were once at. So, once everything's stabilized.. I won't stop the hobby that I've loved since childhood. Chill yo!
I'm worried about the articulated LCD, would that loosen up up overtime? I've had some phones before which the screen can be swivelled however, after sometime, the screen loosen up.
@eroz18 nonsence, canon have been makling flip out lcd screens for years, on their camcorders, they know what they are doing, I am buying one as i am moving to dslr filming, i NEED a rotatable screen for high shots etc. can you imagine filming on your knees or on a ladder ?? its a no brainer 60D over the 550D anyday.
the nikon d90 is not in the same class as the 50d. The d90 is in the t2i class which the t2i dominates as of now. I doubt the new nikon d901 replacement will reach the resolution of the canons. The canon glass is better than the nikons considering that nikon has low density sensors. More pixils need better glass.
Seems like Canon is releasing features that everyone wants but very slowly. First it was 24FPS with the 7D now with Manual Gain control and Flip out screen with the 60D. Next will probably be a headphone jack or audio meters. I do thing the "swivel "is a pro option especially if you are shooting video.
I understand why a lot of you find it an amateur camera, but then again this camera was mainly focused on the film aspect of it. Which is why the flip screen is there so for someone who works mainly on film its a plus for short films.
If you're pro then you shouldn't be looking seriously at this camera. For the market the 60D is aimed at it has the right blend of features and price. I also can't see the problem with flip LCD screens...if you don't want to flip it then leave it where it is!
At the beginning of 2009, this wouldn't have made sense. But now there is the 7D too, which changed the playing field significantly. Today, continuing the 50D development by extrapolating from the 30D, 40D and so on, that would have been an epic failure.
The 60D fits into today's lineup from Canon perfectly. I know a lot of people who think the 550D is already a bit large. They would never go to a camera sized like the 50D, but the 60D they would consider.
@Tennishead39 this is a more conventional camera for a bigger audience hence the move to SD cards. Normal consumers would like the function i would guess, as this isnt aimed at the prosumer level. An extra feature is always a plus, if u don like it dont use it?
"Conventional" belongs to $700 entry level/casual SLR bodies, not $1200 pro/semi-pro pieces.
All of the Canon pros who were going to be getting new back-up bodies to replace their 20/30/40D's are going to be stumped when they find their collection of CF cards is no longer the answer and that they'll have to put up with a swivel screen that will surely wear out it's detents with frequent use, such as a professional would do.
I think I've about had it with Canon. First the 50D's "Creative Auto" follies, now this gussied up 550D they call the 60D. Along with the introduction of even more plastic crap on their current production lenses, I think their time as the go-to for professional shooters is nearly finished.
I'll be paying off the 7D and riding that body out until it burns.
I don't see why everyone is slating this. I was tempted by the 7D, but I need a tilting screen due to the low level shooting I take, plus it's both a lot smaller and lighter than the 7D. Sounds good to me!
some how I feel like this is just an over sized 550D with a flip screen... I have a feeling i would rather get a 7D or a 550D for my next upgrade. but i guess its still a little early to decide
@waggygee I think the 550D is much more consumer oriented, it has a lot less direct control buttons than the 60D. So it's more like a 7D minus the metal body.
@Hynee hmm, i think I agree with you... I think Id personally rather go for a 550D + cash for a lens upgrade if I cant afford a 7D at this point in time. Im still anxious to see more reviews on this camera tho
for me, all the issues surrounding the 60d is forgivable, EXCEPT the non-magnesium alloy body that it has. i was a bit disappointed when i knew that the body was plastic. issues regarding the vari-angle screen, the slower fps, the SD over CF... those are ok, and can be given the benefit of the doubt, but the plastic body, considering it is a semi-pro/mid-range camera... oh well. :(
@N6600 plastic is supposed to absorb shock better. ive heard countless stories on forums of rebels being dropped and kept working. this is no ordinary plastic
I hate to admit it (as a Canon shooter), but as soon as I saw that swivel screen I thought "what the hell were they thinking....". The only thing I like is the mode dial lock, but other than that it seems like they have made it into more of a toy.
@transferases are you referring to the crappy 18mp sensor from the 7d which won the 2010 tipa award? and what awards did the d300s win? nikon fans can crap on about their superior AF, better high iso picture quality, but at the end of the day there is no nikon that produces better picture quality over a similar modeled canon.
@ShAwNeXsHeN That 18mp sensor is known for getting soft photos and has issues with noise. Whenever you cram so many pixels on a sensor without increasing the sensor size...that is trouble. Nikon has 12 mp on their full frame, while canon has 18mp on their APS-C, Canon is not thinking straight. They are trying to win the game on paper while losing it in real life. I have had 3 dslrs from canon and 4 from nikon. The nikon's in the end help you more to get the shot you want.
@transferases I know and understand the whole megapixel issues. But do you actually think that they would cram all of those pixels into an APS-C sensor without the technology to back-it up?
@ShAwNeXsHeN unfortunately they did, and their image quality is suffering. I wish I could post links here to show you, but search around and you'll find the issue with the Canon 7d and soft images. Many of the canon cameras even have noise at the BASE ISO. The quality of image I get from the nikon full frames (d700 and D3s) is so much better than anything from canon. 100% crops are TACK sharp, that's not the case with canon's MP loaded sensors.
@transferases BTW...I to have owned a nikon after my canon 40D. The thinking was at the time Nikons seemed to be getting more and more popular, so i thought there must be a reason. But after owning the nikon (which was a D90), I just wasn't 100% happy. It didn't have that silky smooth image quality that Canons have. It just had a lot of vivid colours which really didn't match all that well when you look at the photo as en entire image rather than individual colours.
@transferases To be fair, this isnot a pro camera, and although the EOS 50D was a kind of enthusiast/semi-pro crossover camera the EOS 7D has now take that spot. This camera is designed to fill the gap between the slightly plasticky consumer oriented 550D and the advanced metal alloy 7D. It's much heavier and more rugged than the 550D.
@WhatDigitalCamera i dunno where u are buying the 7d at for 1600 quid... its more like £1100, which is less than £1150 priced in most places for the 60d.
I think people would rather buy the 7d as the flippy screen looks so amature.
This needs to be priced in between the £650 mark of the 550d and £1100 of the 7d to be considered as a gap filler..
@assimunch Do u see the flip screen on any pro cameras?
No i'm not a pro photographer and even if i were, it wouldn't make a difference. I am entitled to comment on stuff just as u are. The only reason i was looking at it was because my friend who is looking for a new camera may have been interested because she had £1000 pound to spend on a new camera and kit. I told her to get the 50d and a range of other stuff cuz she didn't want video. And noticed the 60d had come out hense why i had a look
Not yet. ... in PRO cameras, meaning Canon 1D, Nikon 3D, but when you come down a bit, Olympus E-3 for example.
But there is a big gab in beign AMATEUR, and PRO. Amateur, is when you use P&S, or maybe Canon 1000D.
I have shot a lot of great shots with flip screen. Shots that i would have lay down on the ground without. (you can tell its a pro when you see his clothes are dirty from the front :P )
@WhatDigitalCamera I agree with that. However, if you look at the price difference between the D7000 and the 60D then we can see those cameras are about the same price. The D7000 is SLIGHTLY more, but for that you get a LOT more.
@jonboy7777 I don't think it's the top, if it is then it won't be for long. And the reason it is the top (if it is) is because 1) people don't know what they are doing and are impressed by numbers on paper 2) pros have invested in canon already and know nikon is better but can't afford to switch.
If you search around you'll see many pros who have switched, and many pros who want to but don't because of their big investment in canon already.
Your opinions ... oh my, you are so dinosaur, lol.
Your opinions are same as the opinions were when digital camera first came around ".... pros dont want digital.. blah blah...film.."
Oh and every camera has LiveView these days. Same shit with that a few years ago: ".. pros dont want LiveView blah blah.." Do you remember when the AutoFocus came around? "..pros dont want AutoFocus blah blah..." What about the VIDEO option in almost every single model? Oh yes, pros dont...
@transferases Where canon failed is its naming convention. This should not be considered a updated 50d. Its a better T2i. The 7d is the upgrade to the 50d and improved it in every way. If you picture the 60d as an upgrade to the t2i, its a total success. Pros can absolutely use a swivel screen as it makes it easy to get creative shots framed correctly the first time
@dswatson83 Look at the price, it's almost the same as the D7000 nikon just released. If this camera was 800 dollars or so then it would be justified, but at 100 dollars less than the D7000....they must be out of their minds over at canon.
@transferases it really doesn't matter what camera anybody use.. as a sort of golden rule to every tools and gadgets out there, "your way, my way..." or kinda like "Just because you bought a golden hammer, it doesn't mean you can build a golden house." -- now, should i state the obvious? peace yoh!
@transferases nikon also still using their primitive AF system and the d90 is still using their crappy old processor and 12mp sensors. and nikon AF is much slower than the canon for sure.
@Xyb3rTeCh I will not dignify this with a response because you clearly don't know what you are talking about. Canon's pro camera 5d mk ii, 9 pts with one cross type, nikon's equivalent camera...51 pt system with 3d tracking and 15 cross type points. How about D7000 vs 60D? similar picture. I had the 5d mk ii and I have the D700 and there is a huge difference in the ability to get in focus shots of moving people.
you are actually....a noob

@N6600 plastic is supposed to absorb shock better. ive heard countless stories on forums of rebels being dropped and kept working. this is no ordinary plastic

Its the same thing with swivel screen on Canon Pro1. I have Pro1. :)
This Canon 60D is more a digital movie camera than digital photo camera.

Canon is total fail...
Crappier body than 50d. Swivel screen is not what pros want. They kept the same crappy 18mp sensor from the 7d. Still using the primitive AF system.
Nikon's D90 replacement will be 10x better than this, i'd rather have the current d90 over this as well.

@transferases

ShAwNeXsHeN 1 year ago
@ShAwNeXsHeN That 18mp sensor is known for getting soft photos and has issues with noise. Whenever you cram so many pixels on a sensor without increasing the sensor size...that is trouble. Nikon has 12 mp on their full frame, while canon has 18mp on their APS-C, Canon is not thinking straight. They are trying to win the game on paper while losing it in real life. I have had 3 dslrs from canon and 4 from nikon. The nikon's in the end help you more to get the shot you want.
transferases 1 year ago
@transferases I know and understand the whole megapixel issues. But do you actually think that they would cram all of those pixels into an APS-C sensor without the technology to back-it up?
ShAwNeXsHeN 1 year ago

ShAwNeXsHeN 1 year ago

@jonobonnowonno1
Explain me in what way the flip screen looks amateur?
Are you a professional photographer? Making living with it? If yes, why do you even care to talk about this level camera?
assimunch 1 year ago
@assimunch Do u see the flip screen on any pro cameras?
No i'm not a pro photographer and even if i were, it wouldn't make a difference. I am entitled to comment on stuff just as u are. The only reason i was looking at it was because my friend who is looking for a new camera may have been interested because she had £1000 pound to spend on a new camera and kit. I told her to get the 50d and a range of other stuff cuz she didn't want video. And noticed the 60d had come out hense why i had a look
jonobonnowonno1 1 year ago
@jonobonnowonno1
Not yet. ... in PRO cameras, meaning Canon 1D, Nikon 3D, but when you come down a bit, Olympus E-3 for example.
But yeah, tell her to get 50D, or even 40D.
assimunch 1 year ago
@WhatDigitalCamera I agree with that. However, if you look at the price difference between the D7000 and the 60D then we can see those cameras are about the same price. The D7000 is SLIGHTLY more, but for that you get a LOT more.

@transferases if canon is fail, why is it top selling cameras in the market?
jonboy7777 1 year ago
@jonboy7777 I don't think it's the top, if it is then it won't be for long. And the reason it is the top (if it is) is because 1) people don't know what they are doing and are impressed by numbers on paper 2) pros have invested in canon already and know nikon is better but can't afford to switch.
If you search around you'll see many pros who have switched, and many pros who want to but don't because of their big investment in canon already.

@transferases
Oh yes, pros dont...
assimunch 1 year ago
@transferases Where canon failed is its naming convention. This should not be considered a updated 50d. Its a better T2i. The 7d is the upgrade to the 50d and improved it in every way. If you picture the 60d as an upgrade to the t2i, its a total success. Pros can absolutely use a swivel screen as it makes it easy to get creative shots framed correctly the first time
dswatson83 1 year ago
@dswatson83 Look at the price, it's almost the same as the D7000 nikon just released. If this camera was 800 dollars or so then it would be justified, but at 100 dollars less than the D7000....they must be out of their minds over at canon.
transferases 1 year ago
@transferases it really doesn't matter what camera anybody use.. as a sort of golden rule to every tools and gadgets out there, "your way, my way..." or kinda like "Just because you bought a golden hammer, it doesn't mean you can build a golden house." -- now, should i state the obvious? peace yoh!
tekho 1 year ago
@transferases nikon also still using their primitive AF system and the d90 is still using their crappy old processor and 12mp sensors. and nikon AF is much slower than the canon for sure.
Xyb3rTeCh 1 year ago
@Xyb3rTeCh I will not dignify this with a response because you clearly don't know what you are talking about. Canon's pro camera 5d mk ii, 9 pts with one cross type, nikon's equivalent camera...51 pt system with 3d tracking and 15 cross type points. How about D7000 vs 60D? similar picture. I had the 5d mk ii and I have the D700 and there is a huge difference in the ability to get in focus shots of moving people.
