I went to the national park with my bf 2 weeks ago and when i got home i started noticing the bites the second day. They are now spread all over my body even close to the genitals which is aweful. They are itchy and painful. I tried listerine, hydrogen proxide, epsom salts they calm itching for some time but not forever. I am very worried now they might spread inside my body.

Few pests have so many false remedies as chiggers. They do not burrow into your skin; they spit a caustic saliva which dissolves the tissue, then they lap up the resultant soup. The meal takes about 2-hours, and by the time the first itch appears the chigger is long gone. No remedy works... see the doctor and get a prednisone treatment or be prepared to scratch miserably for a full month. Prevention? Tie a kerosene soaked rag around each ankle and wrist.

I think that's a myth. They say that nail polish helps to remind you not to scratch in that area because scratching with dirty nails will cause a second infection which is worse than what the chiggers had given.

chiggers/red bugs are serious. i had the worse case in south carolina. Cortizone cream ...name brand or off brand is fine. the whole trick is to not scratch. the cream is it...no scratching lets the skin grow over the chiggers and kill them. i took the ccream to bed at night and when i awoke to scratch i globed on the cortizone cream. it take a whole lot less will power to not scratch with the cream,

it worked for me 500 chiggers from neck down...mainly legs. 20 days later-none.

Most of this shit isn't true. Chiggers do NOT burrow under your skin and suck blood. They are a type of Mite that digs in the skin a little and feeds off of skin cells. They leave behind a type of saliva that decays the skin and they are able to eat it. When they leave your body, THAT IS WHEN THEY ITCH. you dont feel shit while they are in there.

BEST way to help with itching is Hot water which lasts about 3 to 4 hours. Anti itch doesn't really do shit

they come only at warn time which is mostly spring and summer and they liv at high grasses and weeds,when the grass is low,then the're no danger,also when they stick to you first they'll bite then they start drink your blood out of your body(that's how they get bigger)and at same time they drinking they pting a poison inside of you,so they can be danger,especially for little kids,that's reason why you should take them out as quick as possible,you have take him and twisted him

Chiggers are much like tics. They are of the arachnid family. You get them in dense tall grass or thick wooded Forest. I only found out this info cause I am now battling a chigger attack!!! UGH!!!

You can see them in certain area's, like your waste band, socks or other places where your clothing is in constant contact with your skin. Chiggers will cluster together in area's like this. Allowing you to see them with the naked eye. However, if you pay really close attention it is possible to see just one, They are very tiny. They leave behind welts that weep a clear liquid, a lot like poison ivy. It can take days or even weeks for the itching to stop.

@LUNCHBOX762X39 Chiggers are found late summer and early autumn near creeks, in forests, long grass and rivers. They hatch from their eggs then they jump to the longer things like long grass so when we walk by it will be easy for them to jump on the victim. I am suffering from the bites now for 2 weeks. It is all over.

@toyu17 Oh, sorry i meant it is all over my legs. I used everything I read about but it took long time to heal. I had them in August and they were completely gone in late October. I used lemon to scrub them then wash with luke warm water. I used vinager and it burns for little then it feels so good. Use vinager, lemon, epsom salt ( i soaked in epsom salt with hottest water i could handle every single night and it helped brining the saliva out ). You can use mouth wash it has cooling effect.

There are two types of "chiggers". They burrow their heads into your skin, sort of like a tick. Then they release this enzyme that kills your skin cells so they can feed off of it. So they do burrow in your skin.
