Amazing. Simply Amazing. The way these two mix together and sound so "cool" in the less modern sense of the word. You can't find cool like that anywhere these days. Being a saxophonist i have an understanding of how difficult it is to mix so well with the rest of the band. these two do it effortlessly and extremely well. Love it.
And Autumn Leaves is such a wonderful Jazzstandard!
I've just presented a project about Miles Davis - that just made me like Jazz so much more. The wonderful solos, playing with the scales. And 5:51 - ahh ;)
@iamanearthlycreature well, there are a lot of vids like this cuz people only have audio recordings and not the videos to go along with it. I personally like it because there are more versions of the music and studio recordings and stuff this way, i usually just do other crap during audio only vids. Have a wonderful day!!!
@iamanearthlycreature way better to have this song without a video than to not have this song at all. plus, it's extremely common to have songs without videos on youtube.
Mister Adderley and mister Davis, you have done something truly wondrous, people from all over the world are listening to you "autumn leaves", from Serbia to Bolivia, from the US of A to Malaysia. Thank you for this. You are bringing us all together. May you cats rest in peace.
One of my all time favorites, my Mom played jazz all day when I was a little girl and I remember her playing this, when I think of my childhood this song always come to mind, no matter how old it get it always sound good, Miles is just too smooth on this one :)
Well, if my opinion can help, I believe that Cannonball plays bebop but the rest plays cool. At that time, The Jazz Messengers and the quintet of Brown-Rollins-Roach were already playing hard-bop. But if you listen at few Rollins solos a couple of years before, he was doing that transition between bebop and hard-bop. Maybe Cannonball was there during his solo. One sure thing for me, the rest of the band was still playing cool but who cares? This is amazing music.
@MsGuitar100 If that's a cornet I'm a tub of icecream. It's a trumpet with a harmon mute played by Miles Davis and the track comes from the album 'Something Else' - now go wash your ears out.
