The SAS are not JUST counter terrorism; they've been in every conflict since (and including WW2). One SAS Squadron is always on standby to respond to a terrorist incident in the UK or anywhere around the globe. SAS counter-terrorism wing is known as the SP (Special Projects) team.

The SAS &the SBS are the 2 most elite special operations units in the world. Navy SEALs are up there, and so are Army Rangers,but neither one is on nearly the same level as the SAS or SBS. The closest thing the US has would be Delta Force,(which Charlie Beckwith modeled after the SAS), and the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, more commonly know as DEVGRU.
As if u can think any american soldier is even close to the skill and discipline of a british soldier everyone knows the US army is way overated their discipline is terrible, they fire without confirmation they kill innocent civilians, FRIENDLY FIRE, and one made a song about it a US marine including lyrics sayin he had shot little kids.

I trained with some British medics at Ft. McCoy, WI one year (I was a U.S. Army 91B). A few of them had combat experience and they taught me some valuable tricks when dealing with gunshot wounds--I listened and learned. We never talked about who was better. We all new that there was a very real possibility we would be supporting each other soon, and you're only as good as your weakest link. We did have a rivalry, but it was at the pool table at the bar we made rich while we were there.

For all the people who are arguing about who has the best special forses, there are a lot. there are the Russian Spetsnaz, the French foreign legion, the Dutch KCT, the german KSK, the NZSAS, Australien SARS, and what do you think of the Israelie SF, these are just a few exaples. I just checked wikipedia and it says that "elements of SEAL team two formed a two platoon group called "MOB Six" in anticipation of a maritime scenario requiring a counter-terrorism response and had begun training to that end". Note that at the time the other SEAL teams were also training in ct but these guys took it a step further.
if you want to know exactly what DEVGRU is i suggest you read "Rogue Warrior" by Richard Marcinko, he is the creator of SEAL Team six, "mob six" is basically a nickname for the team much like "the unit" is a nickname for delta or CAG as they are now known....
PERSONALLY i think the SAS are the best all round. Most special forces are based on the SAS e.g. the US Delta Force. Google that and you will find that it was based around the SAS. even the badge is similar i believe. But its personal and im not saying im right so dont bother slating me lol.

I actually think the us is kinda the best. head to head, unit to unit, the us army and marines have more capabilities than any other country's armed forces. Despite the objectives that the U.S. chooses and the outcome of the wars it fights, its armed forces are the best trained in the world. it is not merely the size of the U.S. army which makes it the best, its the capabilities of each soldier. The us soldier acheives more kills in battle than any other country's soldiers too, look it up.

GIGN is a police force within france. navy seals are americas naval spec ops unit. mostly dealing with maratime issues. the SAS are not a hostage rescue unit, a part of the sas is yes . but they have mobility troop, mountain troop, boat troop and air troop.

USN seals are military. they do all the dirty work and it is very hard to pass selection
The GIGN is police. its something like SWAT and stuff
SAS on the other hand are military too but they are more like counter-terrorism(example the Iranian Embassy siege)
The Israely SF and all the other SFs in the world are similar but they all have special roles. all of them are great

The SAS &the SBS are the 2 most elite special operations units in the world. Navy SEALs are up there, and so are Army Rangers,but neither one is on nearly the same level as the SAS or SBS. The closest thing the US has would be Delta Force,(which Charlie Beckwith modeled after the SAS), and the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, more commonly know as DEVGRU.

I trained with some British medics at Ft. McCoy, WI one year (I was a U.S. Army 91B). A few of them had combat experience and they taught me some valuable tricks when dealing with gunshot wounds--I listened and learned. We never talked about who was better. We all new that there was a very real possibility we would be supporting each other soon, and you're only as good as your weakest link. We did have a rivalry, but it was at the pool table at the bar we made rich while we were there.

I have 2 disagree with you on that, the gign can hang with the best of them. And the Seals and SAS are military, GIGN is police unit similar 2 the polish BOA.
For all the people who are arguing about who has the best special forses, there are a lot. there are the Russian Spetsnaz, the French foreign legion, the Dutch KCT, the german KSK, the NZSAS, Australien SARS, and what do you think of the Israelie SF, these are just a few exaples. So the US and Brits arend the only ones who have good SF.

I just checked wikipedia and it says that "elements of SEAL team two formed a two platoon group called "MOB Six" in anticipation of a maritime scenario requiring a counter-terrorism response and had begun training to that end". Note that at the time the other SEAL teams were also training in ct but these guys took it a step further.

if you want to know exactly what DEVGRU is i suggest you read "Rogue Warrior" by Richard Marcinko, he is the creator of SEAL Team six, "mob six" is basically a nickname for the team much like "the unit" is a nickname for delta or CAG as they are now known....

PERSONALLY i think the SAS are the best all round. Most special forces are based on the SAS e.g. the US Delta Force. Google that and you will find that it was based around the SAS. even the badge is similar i believe. But its personal and im not saying im right so dont bother slating me lol.

I actually think the us is kinda the best. head to head, unit to unit, the us army and marines have more capabilities than any other country's armed forces. Despite the objectives that the U.S. chooses and the outcome of the wars it fights, its armed forces are the best trained in the world. it is not merely the size of the U.S. army which makes it the best, its the capabilities of each soldier. The us soldier acheives more kills in battle than any other country's soldiers too, look it up.

And by the way, on many documentries of the navy seals, it is VERY clearly stated by Seals how they are actually frequently... 'Frequently'... 'TRAINED - BY - SBS'.

SAS began life operational in counter warfare manouvers.Bare in mind this was during ww2,so the soldiers had plenty of battlefiels exp.
Over the years SAS developed and were the first, to combat anti terroism through techniques untill, at that time, had not been seen.
Besides that, they have engaged in many wars not made public knowledge on a wide scale

And you should also inquire about the SAS and you will find out that at the beginning most of them were foreigners.And by the way there is no SF that are better then other they all have they own skill and they own training.

french GIGN specalize in weaponry training above all else, so when you say "The primary weapon of all those units is the famous Heckler&Koch MP5 9mm.(USN Seals also use the M4, GIGN the P90 and SAS the G3SAS)" it don't mean shit.
the french specalise in the famas, the SAS use the AUG and the SEAL's use the M4A1 or the armalite ar-15(modified).
SF ONLY use the MP5 when they are training or doing small op's, normal operations require real weaponry.
