  • Eric Chahi is a genius, a pioneer, a visionary.

Another World was one of my first games, and I have fond memories of that time when my eyes first saw the brilliance of this masterpiece.

  • For a while I was VERY FRUSTRATED at this game, I couldn't open the hatch using the buttons. It took forever for me to figure out and all the multiple deaths drove me bonkers! But I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'll always remember this game. And I remember it because it didn't look like anything else I'd ever played before.

  • Although I played it on PC (MSDOS) I still think it's a masterpiece. One of the best game of that time because of its story.

Technologicaly it wasn't that breakthrough. At that time a certain programmer from Texas made a raycasting based game which took the world by storm. Add to this an LA based developer unleashed the first RTS game on the world, too. Amiga stuck in the realm of sidescrollers, while PC skyrocketed.

  • I feel quite privileged to have been born in the 70's. I have witnessed some great moments in gaming history as they occurred, but Another World is probably my most memorable. I watched this entire documentary with grin on my face that I wasn't aware of until the end.

    Thanks, Eric. From Australia.

  • @papersplease As with i also ;) I was born in '74 and started gaming in around 1980, starting with LCD games, a Hanimex Pong type console, CBS Colecovision, Atari 2600, C64, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200 and then onto the PC but as you said, Another World is very memorable!. When it came out, everyone that had an Amiga was talking about it with myself included :). I too am from Australia.

We were lucky to have witnessed this and been a part of it :)

  • @blade004 I have a similar history, starting off with the LCD games in my Santa stocking around 1980. Then Atari 2600, Amstrad CPC 464, Amiga 500 through to PC. Gaming back then required your imagination to compensate for the limitations of the technology. This is not something you consciously did, it was just a natural requirement. Those days are pretty much gone. But having experienced that era lives with you.

  • Another World is a master piece! I wish he made another game with vectors and prodedural textures, physics and things like that. A dynamic game with a soul, a similar theme, a strange world, an unknown man in danger whose feelings we can feel through the screen. Today's games is all about sales. They lack life. Sell at a premium price and then sell overpriced DLCs. GRRRR

  • Eric even made his own animation program? Now, that is what I call a genius!

  • first the editor and then the game.. fucking genius

  • Thank you for this amazing game. It was one of the greatest moment in my life to play it with my buddies when it first released on Amiga. Your effort and skills are appreciated.

  • This game and Flashback were my all time fave Amiga games! Awesome games!!! Unfortunately both games had shit sequels!

  • Thank you Eric!

Because of you i have that grat Amiga memories of playing in 90's for one of the most importantg games ever made by human.

    AMAZING!

  • what does this means, it was released only by Erich Chahi and the baldie guy did the music ? no more devs ? :O

    awsum

-thanx for the english subs BTW-

  • He should make Another world 2 :-)

  • @DS1221 There actually was a sequel -- "Heart of the Alien". I know it was on Sega CD, and it was probably on DOS and Amiga, as well.

  • @ApacheMan2K Sadly Heart of the alien never appeared on Amiga. :(

  • @LtR3YN0LDS Really? That's a crying shame.

  • @LtR3YN0LDS There's an unofficial port though.

  • @KiiroBomber Do you mean HEart of the Alien can be played in any "native" form? Do you have it?

  • @LtR3YN0LDS Search for "Heart of The Alien Redux" on Google.

  • This is INCREDIBLEEEEEEE

  • Eric Chahi and Nicola Salmoria two legends of old skool video games

  • One of my all-time favorites. I could just imagine the thrill when he showed the game to those big wigs. Must have been the experience of a lifetime.

  • @AlanSessler

It must have! Although I don't think there were any big wigs at Delphine Software at the time. It was a very small business run by people who were passionate about video games, NOT business men. That's probably one of the reasons for their later bankruptcy.

  • Totally inspiring. One of the best gaming memories of my life. Also just watched the play-thru in youtube, and got mesmerized.

Thank you Eric for your genius. It's totally out there with the most brilliant masterpiece movies and books.

  • Oh My beloved game.

    I was living with it.

  • The American publishers asked him to remove the female's buttock cleft, but didn't mind him leaving in all the guns and disintegrations. This is beyond retarded.

  • @atombat USA ! USA ! Woo Woo !

  • A man ahead of his time.

  • 7:39 sounds like Vietnamese for: "you're so risky"

  • wow!! now this guy's a real artist!!!

  • Fantastic! I was wondering what the budget for this game would be, however it wasn't made by a dev team...

  • epic game

  • I just love it! The atmospheric music during the whole interview gives me shivers. I owe this guy so much!

  • what a great game

  • this game is EPIC! thanks for upload!!
