Words fail. Superb rendition of a fine romantic miniature. How much better does this choir sound in its native acoustic than in a concert hall? I've heard reviewers liken the St John's altos in concert to bleating sheep. Even the somewhat immature bass timbre common with English college choirs is transformed back in the chapel to something quite other. Bravi gentlemen! If you are one of these young chorister now grown up, be proud - be very proud.

Religious or Atheist, it doesn't matter. If you can't see the beauty in this then you have far more important issues than religious identity that you should be focusing on instead of sitting here degrading religion. I'm not Catholic, or even Christian, but I often go to the Basilica in my city because I appreciate the artistic beauty in thier traditions, even if I don't believe in them myself.

Speaking as respectfully as I can, I'm as atheist as one can be; I don't care much for religion or overtly religious people. But I looove singing this music. I'm actually in two choirs (not church choirs), just so I can sing lots of it. Go figure. I'll be singing this in June 2011. I hope we sound half as good. Thanks for this beautiful music.

@TheoO18 I sing for a few reasons: 1. I lift weights, and vocalizing after weightlifting is an excellent way to replenish oxygen stores. 2. A Cappella singing in a competent group is a sensual experience - a high - like no other. 3. Being a singer gets me dates.

Many Anglican high churches still sing the Angelus at the end of Mass in font of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I took a catholic friend of mine who was very surprised.

Actually, I suspect Anglican doctrine isn't as radically different from Catholicism (at least compared to most other Protestant beliefs). I'm not sure though, so you might want to double check. :)

Of course it's closer to Catholicism. That's why Pusey etc. called it a "via media" between Catholicism and Protestantism. However, Anglicanism has historically rejected praying to saints, and usually will not sing hymns to Mary.

Probably Anglicans, at least traditional or "high-church" Anglicans. Anglicans tend to accept more apostolic tradition, believe that bishops are a divine office, have a more traditional liturgy (in the Book of Common Prayer), etc. But compared with Calvinism, Baptists, etc. both are much closer to Catholicism.
