  • I think I saw the heart of the island in the background.

    ZOMG!!

  • knock knock knock...is there anybody out there?

did you get lost in the woods? no new vids in three month...what happened to you ?

did you meet a GIRL? That would be worth disappearing for

  • WOW! What a beautiful tour!

    Mooz

  • :-)

  • Great looking place to hang out. I worked in a paper mill for many years so I'm very familiar with those funky smells. Yep, it's a give and take. I HATE cigarettes and for all those years I packaged cigarette paper for export. You do what ya gotta do:)

  • So is it too late to respond to this? LOL

  • Never too late, LOL. Especially since I was super late making it here in the first place.

  • We could extend this out all year! LOL

  • that looks really incredible. I'm officially jealous .... you can get there in a day??

  • I can get there in 7 minutes!

  • That place is amazingly beautiful. Keep it up with the hikes.

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you Gary...I have just finished watching all of your videos. So the Anakin1814 chapter of the Chris Mast Experience is over...well kinda I was already subbed to you. Now make more videos!!! :)

  • I love the sounds there; the birds are nice and the sound of the water is soothing. I'm glad they are cleaning up the river. I'll bet the river has been running like crazy with all the rain. Beautiful Gary.

  • Thank you!

  • It's amazing what's right in our own backyard. Well, except for mine. I have grass that needs mowing. Good luck with racing season.

  • Thanks Jason! My grass needs mowing too! Oh well!

  • MAn I love Wisconsin. Congrats on sticking with your diet and running. I have lost probably another 10 lbs since I've talked to you last. I love this whole "skinny" thing.

  • Congrats dude!

  • Just catching up on videos after travelling. Wow - for not a big river, that's quite a big river! It's so easy to overlook the stuff that's close to home. Sometimes it pays to play 'tourist in your own town'.

  • It's quite incredible what you actually find just looking in your back yard. I'm finding that with my photography these days too!

  • Cool! I love these mini trips!

  • Aren't they the best?!

  • Nice views there! Mind going there in a little less than 2 months when I come for AirVenture? :) Do some walking around with our cameras and so on.

  • and great river :D

  • 10k...wow that's huge good luck Gary, btw, how are ya mate?

  • The paper industry? I suppose that makes sense, given the wood source and the river, but for some reason I was expecting the industry to be more along the lines of beer and cheese...

  • You're so white, you make NPR sound like DMX.

  • And you are now a Nikon boy! I'll check out you're Flickr, do you have new stuff?

I need to go out for photos too, i don't take photos for 2 weeks, well, nothing great i mean! ;)

    That place looks beautiful!

    Hug

  • beautiful day, beautiful river! Chilly?

  • 1000 islands - is that where they make the salad dressing>?

  • My understanding is that it was named after the Thousand Islands archipelago in the St Laurent river & northeast corner of Lake Ontario near Kingston. My view may be skewed because I was living there when I heard the story.

  • Thanks for sharing your river!

  • Killer spot amigo... glad you're enjoying your mini-trips. Kaukauna Ghosts!!!

  • Soooo pretty!!! :D :D

  • What a lovely place.

    Love the sunglasses :)

  • Lovely scenery.

In 1634, Jean Nicollet travelled up that river, then down the Wisconsin in search of a passage to the Pacific. He almost discovered the Mississippi, but when the Wisconsin began to widen, he was so sure that he has almost reached the sea, he just turned around and went back to Quebec and said he had found a passage to the "South Sea."

  • Beautiful footage! I still haven't went on my day trip that I was planning. I've been having some back problems, and they're just now getting better. I might try to go on a day trip this weekend, and get some footage. :-)

  • it's beautiful!

  • What a lovely place Gary !! I would so love to walk that pathway. I said "walk" not "run" ...lol. hugs, Chris

  • Such a lovely area!

The creek area reminds me a little of the TX Hill Country.

OK, not so much the lake. lol

Great to see you getting out and about. I enjoy going along on these little outdoor trips ppl have been doing lately.

Keep on runnin' Gary!!! You will make that full marathon before you know it! :0)

  • Ahh...what a fine day that must have been. Making me miss our roadtrip already! I think it's time Rich and I restarted our Bay Area hiking and biking adventures.

  • Very peaceful there.

  • Very pretty Gary!

Oh I am not a fan of the paper mill smell. :) My ex used to live in town with one, but the locals told me they couldn't smell it.

  • I'm liking the title. "The ocean is the rivers goal"

I love the look of that river, especially the first place you showed us. I think i could sit there for hours & it's only 7 miles from your house! Cool.

it looked like there were some nice trails around there that you could run on. Combine your exploring, with some running? :)

  • Very cool that you can locate water with both flora and fauna fairly easily.

The last vlog you did helped me come up with how I was going to direct my summer short road trips. I'm thinking that even though the desert seems foreboding, if you know the state well, you can find all the mini-oasis and hidden cool spots. So I thought it would be cool to visit them this year. Kind of symbolic of the times...in the vast hot desert you can find relief in the bright spot of an small oasis.

  • You have to take the good with the bad I guess. The industry supports the town - as long as it's a mutual relationship.

Amazing such a place is only 7 miles from your home. Wish we had more places like that around me.

  • Cool. I took a bunch of video on my walk but not too much narration-might try and make a video response with it. It's funny you mention you seeing things differently because of your camera, I feel the same way. When I started hiking earlier this year the only reason I went was to find something to take pictures of . Now the walking is as important to me as the pictures taking and so much better than the walks I went on before because I now look at things with a photographers eye.

  • impressive scenery! and good luck with the training, it's all a matter of habit and routine - I did my 10k a few weeks back but have continued with the lunchtime runs, thinking about entering a 1/2 marathon myself in September but I know that will require a lot more training.

  • i love listening to the river run !

  • Cool to have so much nature and water around you :0)

  • Thanks for taking us along on your hike! Sounds like you've been a busy guy! Thanks, Ang

  • The spring run off is a bit murky...

You would love the streams of the PNW...

  • ps that looked like a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Facility...

    ran a few...

  • Never been to that area specifically but it looks amazing. Can you camp and fish near there?

  • love the sound of the river ... flowing by... so calming. Beautiful area there G. Happy Summertime =) SmileyD

  • Reminds me of a lot of places here in Jersey. Very nice. All the best with your upcoming races. I thought I saw Dunder Mifflin!

  • This has inspired me to go on a walk today too!! lovely place!

  • The wind blew you away at the end there! lol

I got a closer look at the river behind my store, it is pretty uh ... well, yeah, pretty works.

  • The clean-up is never 100%, is it.

Los Angeles both suffers and benefits in a similar way, I guess.

  • Looks quite peaceful. Thanks for taking us along.

  • Nice. Real nice video.

OK, they are cleaning up the river. I was worried about that.
