I saw him play is some shitty little bar here in Ireland 2 years ago. Nobody else even knew who he was, they were just there drinkin. I was singin along to all the songs and got to back him up on this song. Great memories. Even had a few beers with him after. :-)
Aw what a beautiful song I ever heard! I am listening nanci's version almost every day and I really wanted to hear original varsion! BTW, I am Japanese, So i cant listen what he sing.
So I have a question. can you guys understad what he sing completely? This is not kidding I'm serious!I can hardly believe native English speakes could understand every single words this song correctly without lyrics paper. PLEASE tell me can you? or not? and one more Question. Is this song about what?
"Flipped into the wind like the ashes of her cigarette, He got scattered and thin in the breeze as he tried to forget, he lost all his heat and his heart never will be the same, he got lighter than air but he'll only come down in the rain, strung and hung out to dry flappin' under the line, not such a dignafied place but he really dont mind, he stays with his feet on the ground he'd have nothing to gain, claims he likes it up there but he'll only come down in the rain.
This is just so great. I love this song. And you can see Nanci Griffith getting lost in the song. She later recorded this on her "Other Voices, Other Room" album, which is one of her very best.
I've covered this fantastic song on my album 'Bone Soup' which I hope to release in April 2009 and would like to know the year in which this video of Buddy-M was first aired in the UK. It was on The Transatlantic Sessions and I can remeber where I was when I first got blown away by it, but not when; so go on somebody; scare the crap out of me! Cheers xVx
I have not seem Buddy since the mid 80's. Man does this bring back memories. I used to go see Buddy in Chicago in the early 80's. Anyone remember Holsteins?
My wife Michaela and I would camp with Buddy at the Kerrville Folk Festival and cook him breakfast for a song. I believe we always got the better end of that deal.

This song was inspired by a scene from the movie "Bird" directed by Clint Eastwood, and starring Forest Whitaker as Charlie Parker...
