The reason that healthcare insurance costs will lessen from the mandate will be because there will be mass participation from everyone vs now, where costs skyrocket from select poor areas in different cities that go to the emergency room and are unable to pay their bill. Also, there is also going to be funding for those who can't afford insurance. Don't take my word for it, think for yourself and look it up. (Single payer is still a better system)

I have a job, at a Community Access TV studio (Socialism!). It's a part time job. That's where I do my shooting and editing-- off the clock on borrowed equipment. I actually have several other jobs that are also part time or freelance. I install window treatments. I make t-shirts. I work a retail job. I'm a musician. And I go to school part-time.

Even if you have a private health insurance plan, you also pay for other people's doctor visits. That's how insurance works, silly.

. So much unlike the US. Here, EVEN if you HAVE insurance, they will deny it cause it's not lucrative to keep you alive. I have insurance at work, but have DENIED it because I calculated the premiums and the actual costs of services, and realized that I'll actually be saving $2200 a year by not buying into their scare tactics! If only all of us would do the same... and be united in the universal cause...

I don't trust this system; the doctors are in for the money, not because they really want to help the sick - and that's really the sickest part of the system. Most Americans are 'afraid' of the self-labeled 'socialism' - and they don't even know what the hell they are talking about. Just having your country say: Enough, there's this safety net, if you get cancer, we'll treat you; if you have to deliver, we'll cover you, if you are terminally ill, the country will step up and help you.

I've lived most my life with Universal Health care with the exception of the time I've lived in the US, I actually still have universal health care in Europe. So, if I need to have surgery, instead of being a guinea pig for doctors to charge tests I need and don't need to my insurance, just so my insurance can deny the claim and leave me with the full bill - I pay Delta $700 and fly to Europe to have things done.

Sweden is a piss poor example because everyone lives an austere lifestyle and everyone is -- guess what -- Swedish. Northern cultures tend to prepare better, exercise more, etc. Go to any country near the equator and see how shitty UHC is.

Diversity of a population is a benefit in terms of providing synergy in true capitalism (not Bush/Obama corporate fascism), but it's a society's achilles heel in terms of providing a universal framework for any social program. Social Security, FDIC, Fannie Mae...all failures. UHC would be no different.

Insurance for catastrophic cases, out of pocket for all Dr visits. Costs would come down just as they do for dentist/LASIK.

What about Puerto Rico which received billions in federal subsidies for decades? Equator based countries are generally poorer because they as a culture could afford to sit on their collective asses. The warmer climates and food literally growing out of the ground without any effort allowed the peoples of these nations to eat and not require heating.
