Sony is a Japanese company too, but that doesn't mean they don't have a U.S. headquarters, which employees thousands of people; along with all the American software companies that develop on Sony's console, all the IP providers that benefit from Sony's online play; all the retail electronic stores that sell Sony's products.... Can you see where I'm going here or is your head still buried in the sand? It's the same deal with Toyota dipshit!
If you do all city driving and a lot of it, get an electric car. After the $7500 federal tax credit, the Leaf costs about the same as the Prius. It doesn't burn gas or produce emissions. Looks are a matter of opinion. The Prius looks like a rat. The Leaf looks like a frog. Take your pick, but only one can completely free you from the gas pump.
Pop Quiz:
Q. How long does it take to charge an electric car?
@Telexkrash last time i checked toyota is jdm meaning Japanese domestic motor meaning its a fuckin rice burner in theory its just some Japanese pile of crap

So in other words, you would have to drive this piece of trash Prius on pure electricity for 30 years just to break even and only THEN you start saving the ecosystem...
My diesel turbo car does 51mpg regularly in the town and more on the motorway. Can't see the point if a hybrid that costs twice the price in the UK only gives the same economy but with less performance and higher insurance. The prius would do even better with a diesel engine! It's as if it is well behind the times and Toyota haven't quite caught up yet. Diesel outperforms the prius, so maybe they need to increase the range with batteries AND fit a diesel for more power and economy. Move on!
@urbex2007 i completely agree. I've also been thinking that honda should make a civic hybrid gx. They have a civic gx natural gas which is very clean, but you can't store large amounts of it so you have to refuel often and if they made a hybrid version of it, they would increase the range and mileage. I'm assuming they just assume the cost would be prohibitive
@dex636 Go back to your hole. Cars like the prius are the future of automobiles, and the next generation will be plug in hybrids. Don't like it? Then go back to your hole. And quit injecting politics into it, moron.
@kruppenstein They are the ignorant people that say things like that. @MrRally4ever no, but I have heard they are great cars also. I am betting, however, on the hybrid technology at this point for my needs. These other cars might be a good answer for those who do a lot of highway driving versus city driving.
@TheSmartdude11 Couldn't agree more... of all the places they could put it... in the lower middle of the dash? that's retarded considering how smart the prius is.. LMAO
holy shit, the base model only costs 21750 US dollar over there??? OMG, why do they sell it for 39900 here in Australia?? at the current exchange rate its 36646 US dollar!
@qazjonny LMAO totally... don't even know if that much money for the car will cost you 20000 dollars more for a year of fuel.. I think not... it doesn't pay for itself quickly...
@qazjonny The base model in the UK is equivalent to $40,000 which is why no one buys them. They are more expensive and far less efficient than a modern turbo diesel car. They are 20 years behind the times. In 1982 Daihatsu made the Charade which did 100mph AND 100MPG. So why are Toyota stuck in the past? They need to invest in battery technology as the current Prius only manages 3 miles on battery power. It's a waste of time having one.
diesels get just as good fuel economy and don't have batteries and complicated computer controlled drive trains. Diesel motors typically last for 600 000 km with regular maintenance and have far less parts. The only problem is women are scared of diesels.
We live/drive in the mountains and our 3rd Gen Prius does way better than 50 mpg. It is also super roomy inside! I'm 6' 1" with a disability that doesn't allow me to bend my leg and can even ride in the back seat. I love this car!
oh yeah well my moms friend bought a vw jetta 3 years ago and it has never broke down or any problems at all. and when you buy a vw atleast your not buying a death trap unlike toyotas. volkswagens are a bagillion times MORE safe than toyotas. if you press on a toyotas body it will dent and push in but push on a vw body and you will find its hard as a rock just like nissans.
I know, there just not the BEST quality cars as in how long they last..but i LOVE the look of them but im sure they will improve such as Ford did and now there in the same rank as Honda and Toyota. And yeah I am not the biggest fan of Toyota either.
Well, as a Prius owner, no such animal will appear for some time, the transmission is totally computer controlled, I'm not even in charge of when the engine itself turns on. On flip side, it's fairly respectable on speed, I got my Prius up to 107, which is about as fast as they technically CAN go even if the police seemed adamant that the speed limit was 65 - not 105.
Toyota did a really outstanding job on the 2010 prius, but TOYOTA is really stupid!! I mean if they know how to make the a/c work via solar power when the car is off, WHY CANT TOYOTA MAKE THE SOLAR POWER GO TOWARDS RE CHARGING THE PRIUS TO GET BETTER MPG AND DRIVE MORE MILES ON A FULL TANK..JUST SRUPID. if u can make a cars a/c system work via solar power when the car is off then u can put that solar power for better use!!!!!!
listen and listen closely.. i drive a road tractor.. a big truck.. i have a 15 liter engine in this.. yet it runs so clean i can idle my truck.. IDLE where the most emissions come.. INSIDE a room for 8 hours and not change air quality. its all in EGR's and what they call clean air tech.
The typical know nothing enviro nuts that buy these thinking they are saving mother earth when the truth is they are polluting her more than someone driving a diesel pickup truck. All the extra battery lead and acids and all that plastic... yeah saving the planet. Hey look koolaid stand!
You need to check your facts. The Prius is about as eco friendly as a hummer considering the lengthy supply chain to make that car and deliver it to market. But you probably didn't read that in the tree-hugger marketing.
it's no different until you get to the battery pack. the making of one of those packs is very harsh in terms of energy needed to produce it, and since the pack will wear out and need replacement, the car really doesn't do much good for the Earth, it can really only help your wallet and social status
well yes it will "work" for 20 years, but after about 10, the batteries ability to hold sufficient charge to compensate for the weight of the pack will have drop dramatically. don't get me wrong, i don't dislike this technology, i dislike people thinking they are somehow better than me because they have a hybrid
Hey wipe your mouth, you've got koolaid all over your face.
The batteries and plastic overload in the Prius make it much more of a pollutant than any diesel hummer. Learn a little bit of science before you believe everyting you hear.
DIESEL ENGINES ARE WAY MORE POLLUTING...SO MUCH SMOKE...ANS OH GOD THE NOISE...SO OLD HAT!! TRACTOR ENGINES...oily hands everytime you fill up...yuk !
Your very ill informed about diesels! I have an 09 VW TDI and I can tell you there is no smoke, or diesel smell. Plus you get huge torque and great gas MPG. VW is testing a diesel hybrid that gets 100 plus miles per gallon.
Diesels used to be that way. But ever since they have started making their way back into our vehicles, they have outperformed gasoline vehicles in both performance tests and pollution/fuel economy tests.
i drive a diesel john deere everyday :D i don't get oily hands when i fill up lol what are you talking about? Diesel is clean energy compared to gasoline/electric mix haha...
wow the Jetta TDI still gets a better mpg and not to count the fact that there are less emissions from such diesle engines, as tested. Diesle engines do better than these electric hybrids, and take less time and energy to build...
Okay well lets say your right what about the supposed energy it takes to produce a Prius in a factory. Now back to Diesel which now has nitrogen inducers that cut down the carbon levels which make it "cleaner". If Diesel wasn't produced in more fuel and enviorment efficient levels then you wouldn't have most german and domestics overseas producing these and selling more than hybrid counterparts. Also you don't take into consideration the life span of the vehical with Hybrids having many issues
The carbon emission report of last year proves that TDI engines produced less carbon than that of Hybrid cars like the prius, so in the end Diesle still wins and if Americans could get over the fact of diesle and make it popular in the market then maybe people could stop complaining about the climate change.
no your wrong on that. I am a mechanic for Toyota. In the 3 years I have work there i have seen only 2 come in for replacement of the H.V. battery. It would probably help if you did your research before you badmouth something.
Toyota doesn't hire MECHANICS, they hire TECHNITIANS. If you disagree, I can give you the phone number of America's top ranked Toyota T-TEN Instructor.
Why, the Cobalt is outdated and ugly. Even the Aveo is better looking than the Cobalt. Plus to get 37 mpg (highway only) you have to settle with a stripped down model with no power windows or locks and very few options. The Prius may cost more but it's a better car. Or better yet just go buy the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. It's better than both in looks, mpg (Cobalt), quality (on par with Toyota), and roominess.
The Ford Mondeo diesel gets better mileage than the Ford Fusion. Unfortunately, in order sell them without a loss in the U.S., Ford would have to move the engine manufacturing to Mexico.
While i do like Toyota's in general, I can't seem to muster any love for the Prius. If it has to be economical i'd much rather go for a modern Golf Diesel or something.
I think this is why the Prius is so popular in Europe: It was glamorized by Hollywood, b/c it is by far the most efficient vehicle in the US, and, until recently, diesel cost far more than gas. Not to mention there were virtually nil diesel vehicles besides heavy-duty trucks. Now, with the new 50 state TDI Jetta (no Golf for US), I think the tides will change in America, as it gets an acceptable EPA rating, and diesel is more on par with gasoline.
One of the worst looking car designs in history...after Aztec. I don't believe you have to sacrifice everything for such low MPG! I've got to get at least 100 mpg before I drive that thing! Life's too short for such unimpressive mpg and god-awful styling...
Ya the hubcaps they put on almost all of their cars are dirt ugly. But then again, Toyota doesn't make their cars for sex appeal they make me to sip fuel. Which they do a good job of :D
the only problem i still have with people who buy this car though is that they brag about its great fuel economy but drive it like they stole it...i compared my fuel costs in my corolla with a bloke with a prius and i used less fuel...these cars would be great if people knew how to drive them, so sadly all they are are social status statements
It doesn't say review dear one it says tested. That doesn't mean they reviewed it, clearly it means they tested it and now they are giving us the facts about it.
For being a fan of American Muscle I have to say that is still one damn nice car. 50+ MPG is amazing, especially for a base price of 21k$. It is very technical and 134HP is not bad for a hybrid. Very nice job Toyota you American car destroyers =(

popscoop12 2 years ago 2
wow the Jetta TDI still gets a better mpg and not to count the fact that there are less emissions from such diesle engines, as tested. Diesle engines do better than these electric hybrids, and take less time and energy to build...
jeianafa12547dj 2 years ago
jeianafa12547dj: "Jetta TDI still gets a better mpg"
Jetta TDI barely does 40 mpg and only if you drive it on highway most of the time. Prius does 50+ mpg anytime anywhere.
Gasoline requires 12% less crude oil to make a gallon so Prius does 50*1,12=56 diesel equivalent mpg
> less emissions from such diesle
> engines, as tested
EPA air pollution score (higher=better)
2010 Toyota Prius = 8 out of 10
2009 VW Jetta 2.0 TDI = 6 out of 10
2004 VW Jetta 1.9 TDI = 1 out of 10
theannoyingdogpoo 2 years ago 3
Okay well lets say your right what about the supposed energy it takes to produce a Prius in a factory. Now back to Diesel which now has nitrogen inducers that cut down the carbon levels which make it "cleaner". If Diesel wasn't produced in more fuel and enviorment efficient levels then you wouldn't have most german and domestics overseas producing these and selling more than hybrid counterparts. Also you don't take into consideration the life span of the vehical with Hybrids having many issues

so is that 134hp at the wheels or flywheel?

It looks like the Scion xD.

it doesn't look anything like the xd
djekendj 2 years ago
I'm not saying that the whole prius looks like the xD, that's obvious. But to me, the front looks similar to the xD.
ghostswimmer923 2 years ago
No matter how you look at it, it's the ugliest car out there. Nevermind the fact that compared to VW TDI the fuel economy is not even that good.
bathellfire 2 years ago 3
You beat me to it. Hybrids are a joke. You can get the same and better mileage out of diesels...with less maintenance overhead.
Amazetbm 2 years ago 3
thats completely true. butthe point of a prius is to polute less.
bassplayaz06 2 years ago
haha...true
Mariodude5 2 years ago
The carbon emission report of last year proves that TDI engines produced less carbon than that of Hybrid cars like the prius, so in the end Diesle still wins and if Americans could get over the fact of diesle and make it popular in the market then maybe people could stop complaining about the climate change.

besides on a hybrid the batterys cost a shit load and u have to replace that pretty often
iGeekPro 2 years ago
no your wrong on that. I am a mechanic for Toyota. In the 3 years I have work there i have seen only 2 come in for replacement of the H.V. battery. It would probably help if you did your research before you badmouth something.
djekendj 2 years ago
Toyota doesn't hire MECHANICS, they hire TECHNITIANS. If you disagree, I can give you the phone number of America's top ranked Toyota T-TEN Instructor.
bullseyeta 2 years ago
same difference. that is not my point. the point of my comment was to say that the hv batterys don't go out that often.
djekendj 2 years ago
My '07 Prius does 0 to 60 mph in about 12 sec and this one does it under 10 sec with better fuel mileage, a larger engine and more cabin space. Wow.
edcastrovalley 2 years ago 3
buy a cobalt new for $11k, get 37mpg and save money that way.
sloick 2 years ago
Why, the Cobalt is outdated and ugly. Even the Aveo is better looking than the Cobalt. Plus to get 37 mpg (highway only) you have to settle with a stripped down model with no power windows or locks and very few options. The Prius may cost more but it's a better car. Or better yet just go buy the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. It's better than both in looks, mpg (Cobalt), quality (on par with Toyota), and roominess.
188043 2 years ago
The Ford Mondeo diesel gets better mileage than the Ford Fusion. Unfortunately, in order sell them without a loss in the U.S., Ford would have to move the engine manufacturing to Mexico.
Amazetbm 2 years ago
my WRX was $11k puts down 290WHP, and gets 25 MPG, and will hit 60 in about 4 sec.
seroyer2 2 years ago
@seroyer2 "will hit 60 in about 4 sec."
Not likely.
en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Subaru_Impreza_WRX
"The 0-60mph time for the WRX is around 5.6- 5.8 seconds"
hitssquad 2 years ago
did you read the part about 290 hp, my car is a stage 4 its got a VF 34 on it.
seroyer2 2 years ago
Why that would even matter in a hybrid is beyond me.
NoveltyMop 2 years ago
Ergonomics look a lot better, but still a evil silent car IMO.

what a waste of money LOL. at least here in the usa.

I want 0-60 1/4mile times!! I'll buy anything if it'll haul butt!!
Keep the cold and rain off me and have me leaving new camaro's and stangs and I'll buy it.
Or leave your battery crap on the lot to rust.
dinehope 2 years ago
Err...if you're looking for a fast car, I don't think a prius is for you.
Try an evo X, WRX, 370Z or corvette
O8SERVER 2 years ago
fuel effiency is what there looking for u dick and u cant compare a 370 or a corvette with prius price difference is way off

Yoda8232 2 years ago 3
While i do like Toyota's in general, I can't seem to muster any love for the Prius. If it has to be economical i'd much rather go for a modern Golf Diesel or something.
kmi187 2 years ago

Life's too short for such unimpressive mpg and god-awful styling...
tigercrap 2 years ago
i dont know why Toyota didn't spend some more time designing the rims. they are ugly...
ryftcode 2 years ago
Ya the hubcaps they put on almost all of their cars are dirt ugly. But then again, Toyota doesn't make their cars for sex appeal they make me to sip fuel. Which they do a good job of :D
MattHutzell 2 years ago
It's because the Prius achieves an astoundingly low drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd. Obviously attributes to better mpg.
To give you a base point for comparison, most supercars are over .30 Cd.
moaski 2 years ago 3
Most supercars are over .30 Cd because they need it not to fly :) That's why we have spoilers, diffusers, roof wings and so on.
5Qu1Z33r 2 years ago
Usually like the voice-overs during the reviews because they give more information than we've already known.
Um...maybe specifics about how it drives and everything?
Um...usually that's the point of these.
Billy4202 2 years ago 3
i hate driving at 45 mph to get good fuel economy.
BlazingCheerio 2 years ago 5
it's definitely better than last generation
cost less sip less fuel
dhsu409 2 years ago
the only problem i still have with people who buy this car though is that they brag about its great fuel economy but drive it like they stole it...i compared my fuel costs in my corolla with a bloke with a prius and i used less fuel...these cars would be great if people knew how to drive them, so sadly all they are are social status statements

For being a fan of American Muscle I have to say that is still one damn nice car. 50+ MPG is amazing, especially for a base price of 21k$. It is very technical and 134HP is not bad for a hybrid. Very nice job Toyota you American car destroyers =(
