Production doesn't matter to me as much as I would think if a band is as talented as this. Good music is good music. The self titled ended up being a classic but these first cuts are beautiful in their own "garage" sounding way
If you like Stone Roses and/or Bob Dylan or just imaginative cover versions, then you really ought to check out my own acoustic Love Spreads cover with shocking early Dylan style harmonica playIng.
Let me know your good and bad feedback if you have anything to offload...I'm quite thick skinned so speak your minds people....
infact the bass was that loud on the garage flower album, that when the band played it in a car travelling down the motorway,Renis nose burst and started bleedin, cos it was that bass and treble heavey....
Lol Indie lad im 34 this year and i saw the roses live a couple of times i even remember skiving of school to go see them live when they Played whitleybay icerink i Fucking qued in the cold all day God knows Fucking why lol it wasnt like i wasnt gonna get in..Anyway well said mate 50 pence and all this other R&B & Rap shite dominates the charts nowadays its all Bollocks!,.But you still young you got time on your side A great Band always comes every generation so maybe you due one soon lol!.
I'd never heard this version before! While on the whole I prefer the album version, some of the vocal and musical effects on this are quite interesting (although possibly unintended eg. distortion) and worth keeping. Nowadays they'd release it as a remix
This raw version is from an album later known as Garage flower which was recorded in 1985 and was to be the bands debut album but they decided against releasing it. It was released in 1996 against the bands wishes.
Its obviously not as good as the eventual version but the signs of a classic are there.
Blessings to Ian Brown and all of humanity and musics and religions and animals and other neat things!

Hopefully the Roses will get back together and do a few more albums.
No reason why not, and they still have all the talent in the world.
Led Zeppelin were together from 68 to 80, Roses from 83 to 95.
Zeppelin only ended with death of Bonham.
No excuse for Roses, as Reni never died, he just walked away.

I tend not to compare this to the later version. Both absolutely spine chilling tracks.

There are plenty of great bands out there right now: Animal Collective, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, Dirty Projectors, etc
You should also check out The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, they sound like TSR with additional boy-girl harmonies.

Even if this version pales somewhat to the album version, it still sounds awesome. I'm so glad I can play this song on guitar.
