  • SSSOOOO CUUTTEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What is funny is how the asian and afroamerican children are ignored all the commercial with the robot only speaking with the swedish kids. Japanese self-aversion.

  • @AZURA888 I thought I was the only one to see that..

  • OMG He sounds like Eva

  • I bet Sony will get back in the robot business when prices go down and it is more profitable. Unfortunately it is all about the mighty dollar.

  • Comment removed

  • someday, somehow sony will know what they miss..Qrio is not a robot it is a door to a new era...

  • DUDE. QRIO. WHY

  • I thought that dreams wer taboo for robots. QRIO is eons ahead of any robotic expectations. LOL.

  • It's funny how only one of those kids is Japanese and the rest aren't. And yet, the white girl is the girl who speaks the most and the Japanese girl speaks none. Neither does the Black girl. Only the white kids. :P

  • they were so cute! i dnt understand why they cancelled them.

  • @dakodamama4 they were cancelled because Sony's overall selling rates and numbers of all their products, including AIBO made a huge drop. Sony's termination of their robotics business was so that the they could get more money, since Sony ended up spending more money on making AIBO robots then gaining money from AIBO buyers. therefore for the sake of loss of money, it was too expensive for Sony to develop QRIO and produce AIBO robots.

  • I can't believe those kids are japanese.

  • no way in hell this thing is real, this is just scarry

  • the kids are okay, but that robot is so cute :<

  • im the blond kid in this, i have been searching for this video for 6 years, i lived in tokyo and remember this exact thing. you dont have to believe me, im just happy i have the commercial that i was in

  • wait...so these are nationally japanese children, but not racially, or were they taught japanese for the commercial? also, is it true that Sony stopped the Qrio project? And do they use vocaloid program for their singing?

  • at :50 there is an awkward silence and then qrio says something random..lol

  • i like how he doesn't know why those things like the other things at the beggining

  • I don't get this, Why did they stop making them? They would take over the world and honda with their ASHIMO.

  • @Pankomputerek In fact Sony never meant to put Qrio into production, the project was only ever meant to be a concept robot to test the technology for other products and as an advertising tool for Sony, after Sony killed the Aibo robot pet line they used Qrio for a few years after, there where 7 robots built with spares for repair and maintenance and would have cost millions to create ,

Sony did say that if they did go into production each one would cost to buy,the same as a family saloon car

  • @pauldazeley Well, I think public places like schools could be interested in buying them. It's a shame they don't make them anymore. It's the same thing with ashimo they won't let into production for normal people like you and me but they are going to be selling it to companies. I think this is what sony should do. I wish I had enough money to get the concept one...

  • sony rule

  • Wow the kids can speak Japanese.

It's c3po or droid army ver.1. But can it clean the house, cook the dinner, if not why bother?

  • It was programmed to say all that, not like it made all that up on its own. Sony is a fag.

  • i cant wait for that thing to wake up and crawl out of its box and flick asimo aka honda robot off

  • Wow amazing i really want one! but why are they so seriously exspensiv!?!?!?!?

  • @Massap2

    three words

    Supply and Demand

Also sony discontinued designing due to lack of funding

  • queiro uno! ^_^

  • sigue siendo un programa con respuestas, yo tengo otra idea de lo que debe ser la IA...y esta claro que me basare en como funciona el pensamiento humano

  • It is so cute... wanna buy one ^-^

  • Hey, are you, like me, upset that Sony has cancelled such an amazing robot? Well please show that you care at bringusqrio . webs[dot]com

  • It's from the storybook. I thought it misspoke at first as well.

  • Hemm. how about that Qrio get virus?? like Computer get virus?

  • I don't think it would like it very much lol

  • it's cute, but i'd probably get annoyed after the 100th time it tells me a random fact about some animal.

  • haha yeah it reminds me of that AI chat thingy "talk to god" or whatever and youre like "hows the weather today" and its like "i like weather, do you" "yeah, do you?" "what are you asking me" *sigh* "oh and by the way did you know that the sperm whale can consume...." *sigh*

  • I don't think it works that way. I believe it has a sophisticated computer that can have an actual conversation with you. It's not just some cheap toy you see in walmart that tells you whatever. It listens to you. I think you can download information into it too from your computer.

  • My best robot ever!

  • If this robot cost $40,000 USD then they must give lifetime garanty for invirolment reason and to be sure that the company will not fall out of buisness or materials the owner can pay $100 USD a year?

But the prize of the Qrio are still not eveyone can afford?

  • its probably becoz the product - qrio is not selling very well, its expensive with a price of $40,000 USD. Not everyone would buy but everyone would like to just watch. No selling hit means no income from something that was developed. Sony still needs to feed every employee's family. so, if something can't sell, that something is not consider a good product. Just imagine if sony tries to sell a PSP which can be melted into ice-cream and eat with a price of $40,000 USD.

  • Ok I could see why we don't have practical flying cars right now, but damnit! I want a QRIO! Why did sony kill the project :'(

  • It's so cute~~~~~~

It's a little difficult to understand, but the intonation is getting there. :)

Hmmm. I suspect that it's responding to some preprogramed questions....wonder how that works....

  • we must destroy this thing before it kills john connor

  • OMG! I went to Sony's website, re-arranged random letters and managed to spell Skynet!!! Email me, I will join your fight.

  • You are crazy! Try not to watch too much tv,the Terminater was a typical hollywood "scary robot" movie. There is no such thing as "skynet" so don't get your panties in a wad~its not real! p.s.have you ever actually met John Conner? if you think skynet is real,he's probly out there somewhere, maybe HE would team up with you!!! LOL!!!!

  • "panties in a wad" super loll nice one.

  • that is because Sony fears the Artificial Intelligence becoming self-aware. Either that, or the fact that these little prototypes will soon revolutionize the industry, replacing humans who will be forced out of work because robots will be paid and will not get tired.

  • Or maybe they thought international relations would be damaged, as lots of westerners disagree with the creation of humanoid robots.

  • i like how it moves around, so fluent, like a human almost. i wonder how it would act if it had free will

  • Wooow!! That's so cool!

  • lol this is so cool I want one, this looks better than ASIMO

  • i think so too, it moves better too. but its probably not as intelligent

  • i guess they are ripping off our minds with this, its obveiously a scenario ,i didnt really saw the on-time response of the robot in a any live scences ,its have the ability but in every show it apprears that it always automated to do something ,

i do wanna see it live dum'butt

  • that won't happen because they killed the qrio project quite a while ago

  • "People fear what they do not understand"

  • I remember seeing this on the Sony website, and I was excited back then for the future of consumer robotics. I am glad I found this little clip again here, even if it makes me sad now.

  • their that tall

  • that's cool, but also sort of creepy...

  • Shame half of what it says makes no sense

    XD

  • that's what i was thinking when i watched this. but when they show the book at the end, i think he was supposed to be quoting things he learned when she read the book

  • They say they discontinued it because SONY thought that it could pass Asimov's laws of robotics :(

  • Look, please dont be a complete and utter moron

    thank you

    XD

No real robot can (or will) be able to follow those laws

they require human intelegence and emotions effectivly making the robot into a metal human

  • whats asimovs lawas of robitcs

  • I first saw this video in february 2005, on sony's official website, I dont know why they discontinued it, it looks so fun and human, I really wanted to get one for my birthday, but then they discontinued it, without ever selling it

  • Why, did they discontinue this amazing machine? I love the little guy!!!

  • i nearly actually cried when i watched this. i feel like every child needs someone like this when growing up. :) its so sweet i really want one. if they come back out again. count me in. ill get in debt for one :'D

  • wow this touched my heart technology at its best give it 10 more years there will be millions of these

  • Unfortunately, the Qrio line has been cut back in January 2006 :(. Blame Howard Stringer and his westernized business practices! They have no dream :(... It's all about money, money and MORE MONEY to them, and the Qrio wasn't earning him any money, so it got cut >=(!

  • dude thats weak broke my dreams=(

  • Yeh, that had something to do with it

but the problem was Sony made it too good to quick

people like ASIMO because he looks like a retarded 8 year old. no threat there

with these things they move so realisticly and have conversations. it jst scares people

    =)

    Also money money money

    XD

  • wow robots are future

  • wow it's voice is hardly annoying at all.

  • damm you are robot ¬¬ you no have feelings but you are soo cute ^^

  • You cant buy it. until 2009. i think.

  • Thank you Sony. Now the little guy in the basement can give it a go.

  • some how i dont think you could really talk to it like that lol but still freeky one day thay will be like that and we can pay to have one but sony are out of the robots for know so it wont be by there help at the moment

  • I-robot man. Asmov wuz rite

  • The kids in the back look bored xD just pointing that out

  • his artificial intelligence is more advanced then I thought

  • lol white girl speaking Japanese.

  • and white boy too dont forget white boy. they must live in japan

  • that would have been awesome to actually speak to a robot like that.

  • holy crap it has voice recognition now? a min ago it was dancing, then rollerskating now voice recognition .....amazing

  • If sony dicontinued the qrio because of the price it is to make and sell then thats okay but people keep saying they stopped making them because people were afraid of them...im not afraid of them I want one but if I cant afford it then I can wait until I can!!As soon as they are ready for mass production and are at an affordable price im hoping I can get one!!they are nice really cool!

  • dude. do u hav any idea how screwed up these things could become. Asimov wuz totally rite

  • the music in the videos always sounds like the menu music in Sonic games

  • For that time the ram, processing ans hardware needed to make a QRIO work won't be as expensive, making them cheaper... and I'll have a job by then.

  • I WANTTTTTTTTTTTT ONE

    LOL

  • they got rid of QRIO? why?

  • unfortunatly the qrio idea could be made for war humans are evil its a really sad thing. It'd be nice to have around the the us government would use the idea for war

  • oh, in that case... thats amazing!! japanese technology is taking the lead in robotics and A.I. they rock

  • Absolutely awesome its a complete shame the feeble minded put an end to the QRIO. what kind of moron would think a 14 pound robot could become dangerous. probably same person that thinks a polaroid camera can steal your soul.

  • do they really think by themselves or were they programmed to answer those questions in the commercial?

  • lucky bastards, managed to get close of a true QRIO!

  • Scary!

  • It needs to be huge with canons.aha, jk

    *Kidnaps* <3

  • hey yall even though these things our what i call out of commission, these robots were built to learn thats why they made them... um curious, they have free will because i saw a dance sequence and one of the robots forgot when to bow and looked at the other robot to c what he was doing so he could get back on track, so they learn they dont realy get programed to do everything.

  • i doubt robots can forget.. aren't they programmed?

  • They have to be programmed, but any "memory" would still have to be stored digitally. Hard drives crash, but something like that would use flash memory, which degrades over time. So, yeah, a robot could forget.

  • i saw that video too, but i believe its was delibertely programed like that to make it look more real.

  • But, i guess dreams was close enough.

  • It would of been hilarious if at the end where the girl asks "Hey, what does QRIO like best?" his eye halos turned red and said "making humans into slaves" and a bunch of QRIO's with guns were like we're "time for order, time for peace, time for you to die" and just recked shop in that room

  • wow, that would be niiiiice....

  • WOW!

    That's amazing!

    I want one!

  • hai, me too. I wanted to see them get popular and cheaper. But they stopped making them and working on their abilities.

  • Yaay someone finally uploaded this video. I thought it was so cute. Qrio is my favorite robot so far, too bad they're never going to release them.

  • i want one!!!!!!!!!
