  • i had surgery on my arm and i had allthose tubes put in,its kinda scary when u actually c how they do it.also i was asleep my mom came in wiv me and she said i looked so cute asleep and when i woke up tht was the 1st thing she said 2 me!!lol

  • Im having my tonsils removed, they remove the all tubes before you wake up right? because I've seen a video and they removed one after someone woke up :/ I'm scared to death of my surgery now for some reason, at first I was like "Oh its fine!" now I want to back out but I cant :L

  • @MissSianTaylor I had my tonsils removed but my surgery was different from yours in the sense that I was so afraid of being put under incase i dont wake up so I was referred to a chinese doctor who performed my surgey while I was awake. It only took 2 mins it was painless but ofcourse I felt the pain afterwards. But my reward was eating ice cream everyday. You wont have any tubes when u wake up so dont worry.

  • @diva777

Oooh :/ I'm definately being asleep, I couldn't handle being awake ;D Ah your lucky, I'm not aloud to eat ice cream, or yogurts because apparently it creates a film over your throat. I have to have frozen ice to suck or something like that :L Thanks for the reasurement! :D

  • @MissSianTaylor I had local anesthesia I was completely numb & relaxed dint feel a thinng. It took 2 mins & then the surgeon asked if i wanted to see my tonsils b4 they got rid of them and I said yes. It was so cool. I ate ice cream and cold soup with no salt. And it took about 2 weeks to recover I know for sure I started talking after 2 weeks cause healing takes longer as an adult where as a younger person wud heal much quicker. Good Luck hope all goes well for u &update me on how it goes! :)

  • @MissSianTaylor i had my tonsils removed and i had no clue there were even tubes in my throat! i recently found out that there were, so no worries, you wont even know

  • I RESPECT YOU GUYS SOOO MUCH I HAVE HAD SO MANY SURGERIES AND THIS IS THE CLOSEST YOU GET TO DEATH!!!

YOU ALL DON'T GET ENOUGH THANK YOUS SO I AM SAYING IT

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR EXTREMELY HARD WORK =)

  • I LOVE anesthesia!

I've had several surgeries (orthopedic and 3 colonscopies and 1 endoscopy).

I LOVE counting down to see how long it takes before I go out!

It's much better than an ordinary sleep.

Anesthesia IS the #1 most important invention in the history of humans!

Well, it's a good tie with agriculture, I guess.

  • Propofol is what Michael Jackson died from..that's a little scary.

  • wow im ten years old and i cant believe they did this to me. the doctor told me after surgery what they did. pretty much same as this. the only thing i remember is the doctor telling me that your going to sleep for a couple hours and wake up in a coupple hours. i remember them saying sweet dreams for some reason then fell asleep

  • WHY THE HELL DID THEY TAPE DOWN HIS EYES?

  • @MrsPabloNeruda sometimes people open their eyes but they dont know they do it cause they are knocked out.

  • @MrsPabloNeruda Because the eyes stop tearing/blinking when the patient is rendered unconscious, and if they are not taped down, the eyes would dry out.

  • why does watching this make me feel like my skeleton's turning into jelly?

  • whay would they give a grown man an embarrasing bonnet? im only 13 and i got the regular blue one

  • WOW!!! I have never sen anyone tape the tube and the eye at the same time. Crazy.

  • that doc had some serious gold jewelry on both his wrists

  • lol they taped his face... XD

  • @mrbulletproof100 they taped the breathing tube attached to anesthesia circuit so it holds the tube so the anesthologist doesnt have to hold it and they taped his eyes shut the anesthesia can make the eyes tear i just had surgery and they taped the breathing tube and my eyes its just a precaution

  • Propofol "provides pain relief and also some amnesia...."?? I guess that I'm not as up to date on the literature as he is.

  • @medicaldud omg creepy dude i just had surgery today and dont remember anything at all i got an EKG but i dont remember a gas mask or anything like that i saw him inject something but nothing else

  • Does anyone else find the happy music unnerving?

  • @MIZZPLIES44870

Dont worry I had open heart it is easy going under not fun commin out

  • Proponal is some gooood stuff.

  • @catstalker1

    Propofol

  • @KosukiFire I stand corrected, thank you...

  • If anyone reads this PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTANDIf anyone reads this PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND, I am 36 yrs old man and I am going to have cervical surgory on my c6 & c7 fused togethor. They want to put a 8mm spacer between my c6 & c7 and fuse it togethor with a titaium bracket. I am very scared as shit. I am afraid of dying on the table and leaving mywife and my 3babies behind. Everyone tells me it is just a basic procedure and there is nothing to worry about. This is my first surgeroy ever.

  • @CDAWSON063 Hey, it will be alright. Its a simple procedure. You WILL wake up, you will come back to your wife and kids, and you will make a recovery. Good luck :)

  • Huuuh...it pauses too much for me!!

  • propofol killed MJ!

  • Versed does not work on me. It wakes me up. No matter how many time I told doctors that they still gave it to me and one nurse got a black eye from it :)

  • OMG basic rule of hyegin not to wear a watch or other jewellery to operation!!

  • very true

  • When I had general anesthetic for the first time, the nurse who was taking care of me said "they'll give you a milky substance first to give you nice dreams, then they'll give you the anesthetic". That "milky substance" was obviously the anesthetic itself. I thought that sounded like BS but I guess it made no difference as I never saw what was being injected.

  • I bet the patient wasn't too happy hearing all the sie effects!

  • Propofol does NOT relieve pain and I don't know anyone who gives a "test dose".

  • this brings back memories...

you know that sore-throat, raspy, groggy, awful feeling as you come out of anesthesia?

    Yep. It's pretty intense.

  • @MIZZPLIES44870 practice at home by holding your breath until you pass out :D

its easy i done it heaps

  • damn thats crazy there sticking stuff in his mouth and he doesnt feel a thing. thats awesome.

  • @MIZZPLIES44870

Hi im gonna get my gallbladder remove this coming friday. How did your go with anesthesia and gallbladder removal. Angelamcruz79

  • that stuff put me down in about 20 seconds

  • When I went under general anesthesia, I felt stinging in my arm through the iv and right before I went to sleep, I felt like my muscles were very heavy and felt like I could not breathe. But then I was out like a light!

  • Propofol has an incident rate of 13%. Strange in that it is that number. I had an incident with Propofol and the CRNA, the attending Ortho Surgeon, and the Anesthesiologist on the floor stated that this was the only incident they had ever seen. I had to stay overnight due to injuries and one of the nurses told me this was a very common situation with Propofol.

  • omg i'm freaking out right now, it looks scary.

  • @ExplodeDude ridiculously low. Although you may elect to have spinal anesthesia, in which you would be awake, but the procedure is completely pain free due to the spinal. While under anesthesia, your vitals (heart rate etc) are monitored..your heart rate will go up long before you actually wake up while in surgery because your bodys sympathetic nervous system will react to the stimulus and the doctor can turn up your inhaled agents. Hope that helps.

  • I wouldn't want a doctor talking about the dangers whilst putting me into twilight!

  • jerryjohnston2009 .. u have either experienced a bad provider or have been given bad information. i have been an idenpendent practionioner in kansas for 10 years and to make a statement like that is rediculous. do u know what they call the guy finishing last in med school. hmmmm . DR. the CRNAS ive workded with give better care and anesthesia than 80% of the DR.s I have worked with.

    sorry man.

  • I have surgery in the morning and i am deathly afraid of needles :(

  • so sick

  • When I got surgery the doctor put lip gloss on the mask for some odd reason to make it smell good then i just fell asleep.

  • when i got my endoscopy i laid down and the guy told me the gas was going to smell good, i was like okay, i laid down and they put the mask on, at first i was ok, but after about 5 secs my eyes started to droop, then the gas changed and it didnt smell good, i was kinda scared but i knew everything was gonna be okay, i could hear my heart mointer getting louder until i thought my ear were going to explode, then my brain felt like it was getting squished, next thing you know im waking up.

  • Sounds like the anaesthetising gas being used was Desflurane, which can be highly irritating to inhale due to the fact that it's highly fluorinated methyl ethyl ether. I mean seriously all you medical professionals out there " ETHER " Are we going backward ?

  • i know exactly what they will do to me( giving me the anesthisiea) i have basically memorized everything they do, this is because i've had twelve surgeries

  • I have gone through so much schooling and stress to become a doctor. And what the patient says at 5:13 makes it all worth while! :)

  • This wasn't a deep anaesthesia, wasn't it?:SAnd what's the name and the use of that type of tube the anaesthetist used? It's not an endotracheal tube?It can be used without a laryngoscope?:SI'm not a medical student, just very interested in anaesthesia,so I'd be grateful for every helpful answers!:)Thx!

  • Its a Laryngal Mask Tube and the mask part is put in your throat.

  • its a deep anesthesia. the procedure is under GA. the agent used is desflurane. the least soluble anesthetic agent. thats why the patient is fully awake and coherent right after the surgery. the tube is LMA or laryngeal mask airway. less invasive than et tube.

  • If you're going under anesthesia then don't worry about it, it's not that bad at all.

I was VERY nervous about going under anesthesia to get my wisdom teeth out. The nurse kept talking to me, and she put a needle in my hand (it wasn't anesthesia, but it calmed me down) . I remember getting a bit dizzy and numb from there, but I could still speak. I don't even know what happened after that... I obviously blacked out but I don't even remember it. What felt like an hour later I woke up.

  • anesthesia always makes me dizzy and i thow up because of it. why does this happen? also medicine like calmers or to put me to sleep make me dizzy and throwup. is this normal?

  • @791melita Yes, it's one of the very common side effects from those particular drugs

  • @791melita its the medication versed does that alot and you might just have sensitive stomach i do too even though i dont eat the heat makes me sick. but what medication were they using on you? that makes all the difference

  • I am not comfortable with general anesthesia.

When I had my wisom teeth removed, they were

impacted. I made it clear that I did not

    want to undergo general anesthesia.

So the Dentist gave me extra novacaine

in the gums and an intraveinous muscle relaxer.

I was awake and aware the whole time.

I felt the pressure as the teeth were

removed but no pain. That was fine with me.

  • CRNA's are the ones giving anesthesia the most today. Now there are usually OR's that have 8-10 CRNA's working underneath at least 2 anesthesiologists. CRNA's are qualified to administer anesthesia, and I would not mind receiving anesthesia from a CRNA...making a statement like that makes you seem really ignorant...I'm a medical student about to be an MD and I plan on specializing in anesthesia, so CRNA's are going to be my best friends!

History lesson: anesthesia was originally done by CRNA's.

  • Couldn't agree more with you, pal. I am a nursing student and was pretty blown away to see how people automatically discount CRNA's qualifications simply because they are RNs. It really is illogical and ignorant. If they were not qualified to put people under they would not be certified or ever allowed to given anesthesia. Why would hospitals risk lawsuits by putting unqualified people in charge of peoples lives.

Get real people. Nurses are more qualified then you think.

  • I'm not the most educated on the subject, so excuse my question if ignorant. That said, why do hospitals need anything but RN's for anesthesia? What is the point in hiring an anestheologists? Just in case something goes wrong?

  • So silly. I start CRNA school soon and I will be AS QUALIFIED if NOT MORE than an MDA. Example: The MDA here says propofol alliviates pain = wrong. Propofol is not an analgesic.

All studies conducted to date show than CRNA's are AS QUALIFIED/SAFE and have SIMILAR or BETTER outcomes than their physician counter-parts.

In fact, 65% of ALL anesthesia, historically and currently, is provided by CRNA's. If there was any problem with us, it would definitely have been taken care of long before.

  • @EugeniusP LOL ok now I see the problem. You haven't even started CRNA school yet. Ok, why dont you actually go to school, start working next to real MDA then maybe you can talk. Yes CRNA can do a lot of procedures just as well as an MDA but definitely routine procedures. When the shit really hits the fan and you really need to think your way through on a complicated procedure you will NEED an MDA for help. WHich again is why CRNA are NOT allowed to work unsupervised.

  • @mannyjmd Actually, CRNAs are allowed to work independently and do in many parts of the country/world. And that's whether you like it or not, they do, have been, and will. Our track history shows no difference in care and outcomes. When people, such as yourself, state comments like "when shit hits the fan, you will need blah and blah", you are just making yourself feel better as if you are absolutely "needed". It's up to any MDA/CRNA to ask for help. Not a requirement of CRNA's.

  • No. They hire MDA's because the MDA's cry they are needed. They aren't. Many many hospitals are going CRNA-only. MDA's = have to fight for themselves now. Silly folks. MDA = CRNA in TERMS of service provided. There is NO difference.

  • Are you talking in terms of anesthesia, or medical attention in general?

  • @EugeniusP CRNA and MDA are the same? Are you kidding me? Dont get me wrong CRNA are appreciated because they do help but they are NOT the same. They are NOT allowed to work unsupervised and for good reason. The fact that you think they are the same just shows me how biased your opinion is. MDA are hired because they cry they are needed? MDA dont have a lobby group like CRNA do so really the only ones complaining about being "heard" are the CRNA.

  • @mannyjmd We have a strong lobbying group because the ASA has for a long time been trying to trump CRNA's based soley on political and fear of "going-out-of-business" grounds. It would only make good sense for CRNA's to have a strong political group to fight back. It has nothing to do about being "heard". It has to do with simple job market competition (ASA's primary fear).

  • OMG I am having a surgery in about a month, and I just watched the video. Now I am really scared of the anesthesia they are going to give me

  • It is nothing major... you walk into tje o.r, lay down and they put the anesthesia in you. You won't remember a thing.

  • I just found out i'm not having surgery I don't need it.

  • wow I just love medicine and medical anything lol.. when I was at the hospital I was sooooo intrigued by all the equipment there. i am telling you if I had superb smarts I'd so been anesthesiologist!

  • correct!

  • Wow!! That is why I love medicine is so insteresting and it gives you the sensation to keep learning more and more, wonderful explanation, thanks!! :)

  • Oh okay thanks you scared me there.

  • He has to do what fast and will you feel everything during surgery.

  • So your not fully asleep through the operation you can feel everything.

  • Do you not think he was a bit rough inserting that breathing tube?

  • @ilovehandbags06 He can not take his sweet time and let the patient run out of oxygen

  • @sxm7336 I know that but he could have been a bit easier.

  • @ilovehandbags06 Thats just how they are put in - looks more harsh than it is

  • @ilovehandbags06 not at all...that kind of tube (laryngeal mask airway) doesnt go through the vocal cords.

  • @ilovehandbags06

Nah, it won't bother him. He is 100% out of it anyway, and if they don't do it quickly it might cause a problem because he could run low on oxygen to his brain. Better do it quickly, than to have him lose memories or even brain function.

  • @ilovehandbags06 He has to be rough because he has to hit the trachea and not the esophagus and considering they're right next to each other...

  • @ilovehandbags06 yeah i wondered why my throat was so sore after my surgery ...

  • @ilovehandbags06 yeah i wondered why my throat was so sore after my surgery ... they're always this rough, i guess ...

  • @ilovehandbags06 very rough

  • I think the hat is really embrassing for me anyhow I'm just like that get embrassed easly.

  • The what? Oximeter well then you can tell me what they do I know i've watched this but I want it from someone who has been put to sleep. Why does relaxing agent make you forget?

  • ... Ya know... That pipe going down... Ach...

  • Isoflurane is the gas that they mix with the oxygen.Pavulon is not needed in this procedure as he says.

  • Scary to think about doing it, but also exciting!

  • Enjoyed that segment? I can never get into the medical field :(

  • so scared!!!

  • im hungry

  • I've been in the medical field for many years and I was still terrified when I had my gallbladder surgery; your fears are normal and absolutely understandable. Hopefully you've already had the surgery and are recovering nicely by now. Good luck and I hope it went well. R
