@MrsPabloNeruda Because the eyes stop tearing/blinking when the patient is rendered unconscious, and if they are not taped down, the eyes would dry out.
@mrbulletproof100 they taped the breathing tube attached to anesthesia circuit so it holds the tube so the anesthologist doesnt have to hold it and they taped his eyes shut the anesthesia can make the eyes tear i just had surgery and they taped the breathing tube and my eyes its just a precaution

Versed does not work on me. It wakes me up. No matter how many time I told doctors that they still gave it to me and one nurse got a black eye from it :)
When I had general anesthetic for the first time, the nurse who was taking care of me said "they'll give you a milky substance first to give you nice dreams, then they'll give you the anesthetic". That "milky substance" was obviously the anesthetic itself. I thought that sounded like BS but I guess it made no difference as I never saw what was being injected.
When I went under general anesthesia, I felt stinging in my arm through the iv and right before I went to sleep, I felt like my muscles were very heavy and felt like I could not breathe. But then I was out like a light!
Propofol has an incident rate of 13%. Strange in that it is that number. I had an incident with Propofol and the CRNA, the attending Ortho Surgeon, and the Anesthesiologist on the floor stated that this was the only incident they had ever seen. I had to stay overnight due to injuries and one of the nurses told me this was a very common situation with Propofol.
@ExplodeDude ridiculously low. Although you may elect to have spinal anesthesia, in which you would be awake, but the procedure is completely pain free due to the spinal. While under anesthesia, your vitals (heart rate etc) are monitored..your heart rate will go up long before you actually wake up while in surgery because your bodys sympathetic nervous system will react to the stimulus and the doctor can turn up your inhaled agents. Hope that helps.

I was VERY nervous about going under anesthesia to get my wisdom teeth out. The nurse kept talking to me, and she put a needle in my hand (it wasn't anesthesia, but it calmed me down) . CRNA's are the ones giving anesthesia the most today. Now there are usually OR's that have 8-10 CRNA's working underneath at least 2 anesthesiologists. Get real people. Nurses are more qualified then you think.
I'm not the most educated on the subject, so excuse my question if ignorant. That said, why do hospitals need anything but RN's for anesthesia? What is the point in hiring an anestheologists? Just in case something goes wrong?
So silly. I start CRNA school soon and I will be AS QUALIFIED if NOT MORE than an MDA. Example: The MDA here says propofol alliviates pain = wrong. Propofol is not an analgesic.
All studies conducted to date show than CRNA's are AS QUALIFIED/SAFE and have SIMILAR or BETTER outcomes than their physician counter-parts.
In fact, 65% of ALL anesthesia, historically and currently, is provided by CRNA's. If there was any problem with us, it would definitely have been taken care of long before.
@EugeniusP LOL ok now I see the problem. You haven't even started CRNA school yet. Ok, why dont you actually go to school, start working next to real MDA then maybe you can talk. Our track history shows no difference in care and outcomes. When people, such as yourself, state comments like "when shit hits the fan, you will need blah and blah", you are just making yourself feel better as if you are absolutely "needed". It's up to any MDA/CRNA to ask for help. Not a requirement of CRNA's.
No. They hire MDA's because the MDA's cry they are needed. They aren't. Many many hospitals are going CRNA-only. MDA's = have to fight for themselves now. Silly folks. MDA = CRNA in TERMS of service provided. There is NO difference.

I've had several surgeries (orthopedic and 3 colonscopies and 1 endoscopy).

Well, it's a good tie with agriculture, I guess.

Nah, it won't bother him. He is 100% out of it anyway, and if they don't do it quickly it might cause a problem because he could run low on oxygen to his brain. Better do it quickly, than to have him lose memories or even brain function.

I've been in the medical field for many years and I was still terrified when I had my gallbladder surgery; your fears are normal and absolutely understandable. Hopefully you've already had the surgery and are recovering nicely by now. Good luck and I hope it went well. R
