leave it to brian may to be the only guitarist in the world to say, "oh ya i play the harp, guitar, banjolele, and.... oh ya! i play the goddamn jazz band
And this is what makes Brian May the best guitarist of all time. To have that idea and then execute it... man. And some of the other tracks on the album were so inspired as well. "Seaside Rendezvous," "Prophet's Song" and, of course, "Bohemian Rhapsody." All on one album? INCREDIBLE.
Brilliant. What modern pop-rock musicians have this kinda craft and ambition? It doesn't exist anymore...at least not in Top 40/major label garbage pushed on the masses.
Lots of words describe Brian May as a guitarist but it's this arrangement that puts him in the " ARTISTIC VISIONARY" category .. without equal when it comes to overdubbing and total harmonic beauty. I could care less about the Queen of England ... "GOD SAVE THE MAY !!! "
Lo que Brian May logra solo con su guitarra y el overdub (sobregrabacion) es tan perfecto, la polifonia de una seccion de vientos de Dixie. Se puede escuchar el clarinete, el trombon, la corneta. Que musicazo, por Dios! Impresionante
The amount of talent it takes to create something like this even today is remarkable. But considering this was done in 1975, it's positively astounding.
why's that? the talent we had those days is someting that doesn't exists today. today nobody cares about writing genius songs like this anymore. people only cares of making shity songs u can listen to 2,3 weeks and then they throw it to the garbage. we will never have great music like in those days...
Brian May is so talented its crazy! And he really seems to be a very nice down to earth person aswell. I could only dream about being that good on guitar i mean Cmon!
Fascinating ... and a really likeable guy who's remained himself despite the overwhelming stardom that depressed him for a while. I hope he'll play Sir Isaac Newton in the next biopic, incidentally.
Great video - but frustrating cuz im trying to learn it on uke and he's playing in a different key than the albbum!! But no arguing - the man is oneof the most brilliant and talented people who ever lived. Listen to "The March of the Black Queen".
@SongfromBohemia 4 instruments is not a lot lol. Brian can also play piano, synthe, probably bass and some other ones... Roger's also a multi-instrumentalist, and a lot of people are in rock/pop music. =)
(I'm not trying to minimize Brian's talent, of course)
The amount of skill, creativity and patience it takes to not only orchestrate all those parts on guitar, but also to come up with the different tones for each part, is absolutely staggering. Very few guitarists in the world have this kind of ability and inventiveness. And to have pulled this off in 1975 to boot?? Cheers to you, Brian May.
This is pure genius. It's such a shame that May isn't seen in the North American mainstream as a guitar hero. Those last 40 seconds of music alone set him aside from every other rock guitarist into a world of his own.
Worst, Brian May it's one of the most underrated guitarists in the world, that make me sick
I'm a huge Queen fan and personally love all things Brian May has ever done, including his solo albums, G3 works, movie soundtracks and more... but it doesn't mean I've only heard Queen... I hear tons of music of the 60's, the golden 70's and '80... So I hate when people talk about great guitarists sayin just Hendrix, Page, SRV and Slash... Dr. May is amazing, is the greatest :)
or here in the finland. We had to make a presentation in a finnish class about some instrumentalist everyone knows, i wanted to make it about brian may and then my teacher comes and says "oh, sorry, i don't think that many people know who he is so would you please pick someone else", then i was so angry that i didn't make the presentation :D she didn't appreciate it.....
