@DBurner9 I wouldn't recommend the gunlance for a beginner; while the gunlance is a innovative fun weapon, it is high maintenance and fairly difficult compared to other weapons. When I first started in MHF2 I used the bow to solo the village elder quests up to the last quest, the dual Rajangs. However, once I started playing the guild with my friends I noticed how much faster you can down something with melee weapons. I would recommend either the longsword or sword and shield for a beginner.

@dota2late2Apologize Guard inc is only effective against certain monsters,Guard +2 is not only good for defense , it's also excellent for preventing knockback and damage reduction. Still a nice tactic though.

thats a bowgun not a gunlance

a gunlance can't shoot.. it only fires small explosions at the tip.. so a crosshair wouldn't have any fuction

@nerdyteenZ the gunlance is just a lance that can shoot at close range by pressing O. it doesnt have a crosshair or ammo. the type of shell is the following.

long: shoots further, good when you want to hit flying monsters.

spread:a shot that spreads out and is stronger than the other shots.

Normal: just a regular shot.

well i am a very good lancer and i took the chance to switch to gunlance cuz i knew just from looking at its combos it outdamages lances alot but i pretty much mastered both weapons just incase i would have to switch for more dmg xD its really nice imo i suggest any lance user to master both lance and gunlance its very useful when the time comes to use a gunlance its wyvern fire can seriously cause alot of dmg and make the monster flinch

well gunlances use there own shells that are indispensable, there is long type which fires a longer shell. there is spread type which is basically a bigger more powerfull version of normal shell. the normal shell is just one explosion. basically gunlances come with shells. hope it helped :D

It should be noted that all upward stabs including guard stabs and combo stabs following the uppercut swing are incredibly weak.

Proof:

Normal stab combo (Tri x3): 26%, 26%, 30% (3 hits, 82%)

Upward stab combo (R + Tri x3): 18%, 18%, 18% (3 hits, 54%)

Rushing stab (Tri): 34%

Upward swing (Tri + Cir): 30%

Unsheathe attack: 34%

Therefore, the forward stabs and charging stabs are the strongest, completely opposite from lances, ironically. I would only follow the uppercut with shells.

best weapon for beginning gunners is bow, its so easy to kill some things with it :D, but still, all weapons are good, some just require alot more practice(take Heavy Bowgun, the lack of mobility and large recoil can kill sometimes)

carve loot is random, that's a rare item, take a look at gunlance tree for MHF2 (it's similar) and find a path that has easy to find crafting materials.
