  • Have always liked the Delta Blues, black key piano, and bottleneck guitars - but Lonnie and this one is in a class by itself. Used to listen to good music played like this at the old Backstage Club at STL while in service at Scott Field in the mid 40's. Good ole days!

  • How can anyone dislike this?

  • he has a lovely voice:-) <3

  • Love it.........back when music was music.

  • Lonnie Johnson; A CHARMING like no other

  • ☆☆☆★★

  • Ah yes.... I too grew up in Mississippi in the 40s and 50s and that song was one that was most played on my parents Seeburg juke box at our highway 11 juke joint called the Pine Stop. It brings back fond memories of a childhood filled with love . My brother was killed in an auto accident in 1955 and we subsequently moved to Mobile but I still cherish all the good days!

  • Still cannot beat LaVern Baker's interpretation of this song.

  • In the late 40's, I was just a bored little white kid in a small town just south of

where Elivs was born. Maybe he fell in love with the blues the way I did. We

had two choices...a black station and a white station. I soon preferred the

great blues I was hearing and when I first heard Lonnie, he was forever my

favorite. I wish more people knew about him.

  • @luvcav elvis didnt fell in love whit the blues.. he toke advantage of it and gave no credit to the original artist who never get any kind of royaltys

  • @TheSatanas666 Geez peace.

    Elvis. Greatest. End of.

  • @johnnykingtcb saw your videos a clown like u dont deserve comment a blues legend video

  • @TheSatanas666 hmm... fuck off and dry your eyes asswipe

  • @TheSatanas666 EVER BEEN to MEMPHIS?

  • @TheSatanas666 That's not the story Otis Blackwell told. Stop telling lies!

  • many people recorded this song but only elvis and lonnie r spoken of and thats b cause no other has the magic to take u 2 places. i love them both.

  • Lonnie Johnson ELVIS PRESLEY

  • @ELVIS2662 Same school.

  • Lonnie's version was great but ELVIS' had that something extra.

  • @donn409 Yes he did - it was his agent.

  • @FaySake You can lie all you want but the majority of people don't care.

  • Met him briefly in the Village in "64. Lovely man!

  • Aw! Hell yeah! A classic, this brings me to tears! Is there a blues ballad with more depth than Lonnie's? God Bless his hard luck soul! I am a born again Lonnie Johnson Believer! Amen -Lil Rev

  • Hey, Ya'll I like what I heard. Check out my video about the King of ROCK! YEAH!

  • this is livin... I love this song... I just discovered this about 2 days ago... I cant get enough... must of heard now for like 49 times... chills up my spine...goosebumps... from Mexico... we love the BLUES...

  • god that's brilliant my favorite blues artist of all time he's a genius

  • the part at 1:14 and to 1:30 sounds exactly like the phrases that Elvis used to sing. It is obvious that Lonnie inspired him a great deal. I prefer this lonnie version over elvis. Wish elvis had rerecorded it. The funny thing it is sounds like an elvis standard in lonnies version but in elvis'own version.

  • IMO,Lonnie Johnson, great guitarist very good singer.Elvis, average guitarist, great singer.

  • Elvis changed most of the RnB material he covered,Usually for the better. But you have to see it as a sign of respect how close to the original he kept on this one. beautiful song, beautifully sung.

  • better than elvis in every way.

  • @GrigoriZhukov The only reason you're saying that is because it's ELVIS.

  • @donn409 Nope, I say it because it's true. Elvis = pop nothing more nothing less and the onlyest pop I like is coca cola.

  • @GrigoriZhukov You wouldn't know the truth if it came up and bit you.

  • @donn409 Nope but then again I run into more bigots saying white people (what a bullshit phrase of small peckered losers) don't understand the blues...those are the people who don't know the truth if it bit them. p.s. elvis sucked period end of discussion he wasn't even a pimple on the ass of men like loyd Price. hmph elvis sucked

  • @GrigoriZhukov Like I said, you wouldn't know the truth if it bit you. You are a small minded fool who has no right to judge who has talent and who doesn't. People like you come on YouTube and other sites with the intention of starting arguments. Oh, and Lloyd Price disagrees with you. P.S. The one that sucks is you.

  • Killer version.......! Far the best.

  • great song, thanks, Rich

  • Thank you!

  • DOES ANYONE HAVE THE PIANO/FEMALE CHORUS VERSION OF THIS CLASSIC? KING RECORDS RELEASED IT IN THE LATE 50'S.

  • @patriciaobrien .. Elvis wouldnt be singing A dam thing if it wasnt for REAL musicisn like Lonnie Johnson..and might i add Lonnie had SOUL.

  • @myhoe90 Lies, all lies!

  • That was BRILLIANT

  • great version, I enjoy his voice, nice and smooth., I can see why Elvis liked this song...thank you Lonnie u r one of kind!

  • Absolutely bloody marvellous, what a voice and what a guitar style.

  • I remember my Dad had the same record but it had background singers added with a R&B piano playing in the background added to the exact song. I wish I could find that recording.

  • What a great tune, I cant see any tab anywhere for this. Has anyone seen any?

  • this is just fucking awesome

  • This song is so fine it brings tears to my eyes, straight from my heart.

  • I enjoy this version more than the Elvis one.
