What Katy Couric either doesn't realise, forgot or intentionally brushed over is that Michael Jackson had VITILIGO. A fact confirmed by the coroner from his autopsy. Did he undergo treatment to try to even out his skin tone? Yes. But the reason he became white in the first place is due to the vitiligo.

Bad is the second biggest selling album, and Dangerous, History and Invincible outsold all of the other albums that came out. The media downplayed the success of those albums. The media downplayed his songs because they didn't want his albums to sell. Not only that, when Thriller came out, there was no internet, so there wasn't any music piracy on the level it is now. No one’s albums can sell like that anymore. The media doesn't bring up that fact when they talk shit about MJ.
The only thing I didn't like what that Spike didn't correct her about the "skin bleaching" comment. MJ only depigmented his upper body because he was a public figure and couldn't go out into the spotlight with his vitiligo showing. @Subtalvik2 he didnt "bleach" his skin to even it out. he went through depigmentation process that over time would even out his skin tone. however as it says in his autopsy report, he still had areas of light and dark patches on his skin till the day he died.
it is biologically impossible for one to destroy the skins melanin production from a topical cream or ointment.

Mj did have vitiligo, in the 80's he used makeup on the small parts on his hands because it hadnt become as widespread on his body. then as it got worse, he started to go through the depigmentation process, which still, did NOT make him one uniform color.

@cutiefrogskermit I agree that he had vitiligo. shoot that was proven in the autopsy report. but his skin was bleached though, unintentionally. he used an ointment to smooth out the blotches so for example, his whole arm would be white instead of polka dotted. anyway, one of the side effects of that ointment is bleaching of the skin along with the sensitivity to sunlight (note the umbrella). to tell you the truth, i'd rather look at a pale michael than a spotted one.

I'm sorry I have to say this. Please fellow MJ fans, stop saying "he turned white with vitiligo". It puts out the wrong information. I have vitiligo myself, you don't "turn" a solid colour, either way. You have patches. The actual situation is that Michael evidently (as seen in several photos) had patches of both pigments and covered the dark spots with professional make-up. There is no such thing as skin bleaching, and it would not have a flawless effect like make-up and would damage the skin.
Vigitilo doesn't have to run in your family to get it idiots! Millions ofn people out there have it and maybe the only in their family to have it!only 5 to 7 percent of children will get vitiligo even if a parent has it, and most people with vitiligo do not have a family history of the disorder.

Imagine the make-up Michael had access to. You're right it's not realistic to cover his whole body everyday and that he didn't. There are thousands of photos of him with spots on his arms and legs. He only covered his face and neck. He wore long arm pieces onstage and of course his trademark glove, to cover.

His plastic surgery on his nose has nothing to do with his skin disorder. Vitiligo sufferers can have isolated spots or it can be universal. It's different for different people. Also Michael clearly used cosmetics to cover it up, but there are people who don't cover it up. He was famous, so why wouldn't he cover it up. Look at the youtube video entitled "Vitiligo, Does Michael jackson REALLY have this disorder?" and you can learn a lot. I did.

@inular I agree. Proof of his vitiligo is in the autopsy report. He evened out his face and neck otherwise he would appear spotted. The rest of his body still had spots. I have seen pictures of that myself. If you see closeups of his chest you can still see spots. Makeup covered it up somewhat but not completely. Same with his hands and even parts of his neck

@jollysincere Well he admitted to having surgery on his nose and the cleft on his chin. His hair i believe was a wig, but the skin, i do think is a real ailment. You can look at some of his concert photos and you can see some of the skin patches on his hands. It lkooks very much like a person with vitiligo.

If you would do some research instead of being a puppet to the media, then you would know that your entire body can be depigmented in the case of vitiligo using pharmacologic agents that are costly. So although the average person with vitiligo may not have the funds to choose this treatment method, Michael Jackson did and thats why his entire body is affected.

Bad is the second biggest selling album, and Dangerous, History and Invincible outsold all of the other albums that came out. The media downplayed the success of those albums. The media downplayed his songs because they didn't want his albums to sell. Not only that, when Thriller came out, there was no internet, so there wasn't any music piracy on the level it is now. No one’s albums can sell like that anymore. The media doesn't bring up that fact when they talk shit about MJ.

The only thing I didn't like what that Spike didn't correct her about the "skin bleaching" comment. MJ only depigmented his upper body because he was a public figure and couldn't go out into the spotlight with his vitiligo showing. it is biologically impossible for one to destroy the skins melanin production from a topical cream or ointment.

Mj did have vitiligo, in the 80's he used makeup on the small parts on his hands because it hadnt become as widespread on his body. then as it got worse, he started to go through the depigmentation process, which still, did NOT make him one uniform color.
look up his autopsy report. it clearly lists vitiligo in the Anatomical summary.

@cutiefrogskermit I agree that he had vitiligo. shoot that was proven in the autopsy report. but his skin was bleached though, unintentionally. he used an ointment to smooth out the blotches so for example, his whole arm would be white instead of polka dotted. anyway, one of the side effects of that ointment is bleaching of the skin along with the sensitivity to sunlight (note the umbrella). to tell you the truth, i'd rather look at a pale michael than a spotted one.

I'm sorry I have to say this. Please fellow MJ fans, stop saying "he turned white with vitiligo". It puts out the wrong information. I have vitiligo myself, you don't "turn" a solid colour, either way. You have patches. The actual situation is that Michael evidently (as seen in several photos) had patches of both pigments and covered the dark spots with professional make-up. There is no such thing as skin bleaching, and it would not have a flawless effect like make-up and would damage the skin.

@HatmanTV I agree with you to a point, I have vitiligo myself, but I do not believe he bleached his skin whatsoever. I use professional make-up to cover my patches and it works flawlessly. Imagine the make-up Michael had access to. You're right it's not realistic to cover his whole body everyday and that he didn't. There are thousands of photos of him with spots on his arms and legs. He only covered his face and neck. He wore long arm pieces onstage and of course his trademark glove, to cover.

When he closed his eyes you could even see that his eyelids were white. Are you going to tell me that he put a cream that powerful in his eyes too? His plastic surgery on his nose has nothing to do with his skin disorder. Vitiligo sufferers can have isolated spots or it can be universal. It's different for different people. Also Michael clearly used cosmetics to cover it up, but there are people who don't cover it up. He was famous, so why wouldn't he cover it up. Look at the youtube video entitled "Vitiligo, Does Michael jackson REALLY have this disorder?" and you can learn a lot. I did.

@inular I agree. Proof of his vitiligo is in the autopsy report. He evened out his face and neck otherwise he would appear spotted. The rest of his body still had spots. I have seen pictures of that myself. If you see closeups of his chest you can still see spots. Makeup covered it up somewhat but not completely. Same with his hands and even parts of his neck

Mike probably bleach the rest of skin bcos how can he perform on stage with patches of white and black. It's not possible to bleach black, so you can only go white to make your skin uniform.

@jollysincere Well he admitted to having surgery on his nose and the cleft on his chin. His hair i believe was a wig, but the skin, i do think is a real ailment. You can look at some of his concert photos and you can see some of the skin patches on his hands. It lkooks very much like a person with vitiligo.

@jollysincere Afro went out of date a long time ago, it would not make sense for a pop star to be out of date. i don't think he hated being black, he probably hated the disease he had, but it's his choice to have anyone he wants to sire him children. If you think about it by doing that he trancended the racial barrier. WHy must he as a black person only have black people give him children why can't it be white? If you would do some research instead of being a puppet to the media, then you would know that your entire body can be depigmented in the case of vitiligo using pharmacologic agents that are costly. So although the average person with vitiligo may not have the funds to choose this treatment method, Michael Jackson did and thats why his entire body is affected.
