  • He was smart enough to keep the basic format of the song with the addition of the dance beats.

  • Años 70s. Cuando no habìa celulares, computadores, portatiles. Eramos màs felices

  • @jorgealbertobaron claro que no

  • Falleció en 1979. Homenaje. Se la dedico a Elisa Maximiliane Barón Ovalle y Karen Viviana Rico Gómez

  • HERMOSA CANCION. SE LA DEDICO A ELISA MAXIMILIANE BARON OVALLE, JORGE ALBERTO BARON, KAREN VIVIANA RICO GOMEZ, LEIDY DAYANA RODRIGUEZ SARMIENTO, DANNA VALENTINA ALVARADO GOMEZ, ANA ROSA GOMEZ MONTAÑO, MARIA CLAUDIA OCHOA MORENO, ANGELA CONSTANZA BONILLA GOMEZ.

  • Smash hit of 1976.What a great era, simply unforgettable!

  • Um, I read all the comments, been watching ST a long time & began w/Classique - very funky disco version! Re: Name of Intro song - I do remember the name of this song; it's called "Beyond Antares". I stress though that I make no bones about who wrote it. Hope that helps somewhat!

  • oh man this is such crap

no i mean this is really shit

as in other words this is the shit

    great track man

    star treak

    beam me up scottie

  • muy buena rola de van mccoy exelente

  • Actually Steve youre right...its the reason Alexander Courage wanted nothing more to do with Trek as he felt that Gene had written those (unused) lyrics purely to get half the money.

  • Set course to DA FUNK!

  • AWESOME :) SUNSHINE SMILES ~ THANK YOU :) NAMASTE

  • this is killer - cheese of the very highest quality

  • Prefer Deodatos version.

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOW AWESOME DISCO COVER !!!!

  • i heard deodatos version but sorry no one elese like van mc coy for me is the best

  • check out deodato's version, recorded in the same year., it back on youtube again, just search 'Deodato - star trek' This is a great find, but Deodato's incarnation is very interesting for musicians and people who love star trek and the great tunes of the 70s. It's a better arrangement than Van McCoys, in my opinion.

  • This is pretty awesome. I love it.

  • Exelente musica orgasmica

  • FALLECIO EL 6 DE JULIO DE 1979

  • GRAN VERSION

  • rightly named , for when Dr McCoy beams aboard the enterprise in TMP he is defiantly dressed for this song

  • haha, i can just imagine mccoy doing some disco dance to this song.

  • In one of the earily "Making of" Star Trek books, I read that they had considered lyrics for the theme song, but then dropped them.

What I remeber is that the words went:

"My love is on a Star Trek"

But I don't remeber the rest. Wish I could find that book again!

  • FWIW, Gene Roddenberry did write lyrics for this song. They were never used due to creative differences between Roddenberry and Alexander Courage.

    Here they are...

    Beyond...he rim of the starlight...

    My love...is wandering in starlight...

    I know...he'll find in star-clustered reaches...

Love...strange love a star woman teaches...

    I know...his journey ends never...

His Star Trek...will go on forever...

But tell him...while he wanders his starry sea...

    Remember, remember me.

  • correction...

    Beyond...the rim of the starlight...

  • @tsntana Actually I think Roddenberry wrote lyrics so he could claim co-authorship and get paid half the royalties everytime the theme was played. Now I know the trekkers will vote down this comment to -100 because it blasphemes the Holy Name of Gene, Blessed Be He, but that's the version of the story I heard.

  • @stevel738 nah, I'm a trekker and I agree 100% - this story and others are told in the book Inside Star Trek, which should be mandatory reading for any trekker.

  • @stevel738 if this is so then have you ever heard it being sung

  • @MYBIGKINDHEART

    yes of course

  • @stevel738 you are correct.

    -TEW

  • @stevel738 This is the version you get in Inside Star Trek, written after Roddenberry had passed away and could no longer defend himself. It may indeed be partly true (he initially made very little off the series and had to seek royalties wherever possible), but he also clearly had strong feelings about the music and had written poetry in the past. It's noteworthy that he didn't (to the best of my knowledge) seek similar arrangements on any of the other shows he had worked on.

  • @stevel738 Actually, it's quite true.

  • @stevel738 That's the version given in "Star Trek: The REAL Story," co-authored by Herb Solow and Bob Justman. While there's some truth in it (Roddenberry had to make money off Star Trek somehow), he also had strong feelings about the music and fancied himself a poet. As creator and producer of the series, he had every right to pen a lyric, and to receive royalties from it. If Alexander Courage (the theme's composer) had a bone to pick, he should have read his contract more carefully.

  • @stevel738 Roddenberry was only in it for the money. Same a Lucas.

  • I didn't know Van McCoy made a disco version of Star Trek.

  • GRAN VERSION

  • lol , so reminds me of how Dr McCoy comes on board the enterprise dressed in his disco set up in the TMP :)

  • Me sobran dedos de las manos para contar a personas como ud Sr.Van Mccoy

  • Tema que continua sin pasar de moda y desapercibido (bien por Van McCoy), continua en su viaje a las estrellas.

  • pocas canciones como esta

  • GRAN VERSION. FALLECIO EN 1979. VAN McCOY. HOMENAJE
