@EAFSQ9 The A77 isn't a full frame but cropped frame sensor camera (and yes in this class the fastest still), it's not a SLR but SLT (no reflex action) and the EOS 1D is about 4x the price ...so comparing apples with pears.
i think we both know why you didn't hold the button untill it choked. It stops after taking about 12-13 pictures and it becomes more like a canon EOS 550D taking a picture every second.
@MrViiP3RHD people don't understand! its still freaking 12 fps!! and thats AMAZING! obviously it has to slow down eventually..if sony made it faster it would cost over 4K...How do you like the video quality and is the lens they give you pretty good?
@ian559fresno The quality is amazing! ;) I have actually bought some more lenses lately but there are so few of them at this very moment which would be the only negative thing about it.
The quality when recording is stunning, Especially with 50p (50 FPS) as it makes a clean and smoother video. Just the damn lenses that makes some annoying noise when using auto focus but I bought a "Røde" microphone which deletes the noise completely ;)
@ian559fresno Bullshit! Using CF cards gives you twice the speed compared to SD, so it elongates the time the cam can shoot at max. fps, you don't need a 4k cam for that. Also, buffer memory play its part in that, too of course.
And regarding 12 fps: they are not usable because of lock of exposure, even at 8 fps the VF does not catch at refreshing the screen, only at 3 fps the A77 can do it. So forget this high fps shit on the Alphas, it's mostly a marketing thing.
@kannjanichtsein While it is true that CF cards are (generally speaking) faster than SD, there are many SD cards which match CF speeds.
Also important to mention, it is completely dependent on what card standards your camera will support. For example, the Alpha may not support any of the newer CF standards, which would negate any of the high speed claims from the card's manufacturers.
@SpeedFreakNO no im not saying that, people need to get there facts straight, people think this camera has the bells and whistles of lets say well CANON AND NIKON, yeah it does 12 frames, but when tracking something the camera shits its pants and does 3 frames at the most, okay it does have a pretty good image quality, but its a mirrorless system, i wouldn't call it a dslr. thats my opinion anyway, i'd like to here the sweet sound of a mirror moving in my camera
@ch0000000000000de No one would call it a DSLR, cause it's not. And tracking targets isn't all a camera is about. I would call a 4x5 large format camera a real camera as well, and you certainly can't track any targets with that :)
I enjoy the sound of both the mirror and shutter moving in my camera as well (Pentax K-5),but I'm buying the new mirrorless K-01 when it arrives. It has no mirror, only a shutter, but as an addition to my K-5, not a replacement. And both are real :)
@prowled Are we sure it slows down? So what I am reading is that sony made a camera with the capacity to shoot 12fps with a processor that can't handle it...Got It! Makes perfect sense. Maybe an SD Extreme at over 33mbs sec. handles it. Which it does.
@draveify i am asuming a SDHC class 10 memorycard. It still chokes, because the file-transfer speed to memory isn't as high as the speed on the card. It has a huge buffersize, but it empties too slow. Why does this surprise you? It is a 24MP camera, 12fps gives you close to 100mb(+ -) of data. Sony tried to compensate by using a huge buffer. That buffer is there to compencate for the lousy file transfer speed.
@daas8214 I am going to get one, ofcourse there are great minolta and zeiss lenses! And im not an arab king to buy 100 lenses to boast about variety of lenses!
@oceanistoosmall Sony won't release FF pro bodies until at least well into spring 2012 or later. Holiday merchandise is already in stores, so they are too late for this year to release another new camera. The other factor is they have been impacted by the flooding of their factory in Thailand. It will take months for Sony to move their production elsewhere.
@daas8214 lol a "pro photographer" could shoot with anything if he wanted to. Canon has dominated this game for over a decade, but others are catching on. Look at the camera itself, not the people that use them. The people that use them only emphasizes tradition and popularity, not quality. Sony is doing REALLY good in the DLSR/mirrorless digital camera fields. They're catching up fast.
@blubryscone actually I did and the first thing I saw was his video game video, hence the comment-my bad. although later he sent a link to his site and now i understand he's a working photographer and may be a pro. the term pro is widely used nowadays, anyone with camera equipment and a studio can say that but in my book if ur work isn't published and is not recognized, u aint a pro yet.
every one of the pics has horrid iso performance. So congrats. In the dark with no flash you get 12 unusable frames per second.

The Sony A77 isn't the fastest Full-frame SLR at the moment. This record is currently held by Canon, with their EOS 1DX at a whopping 14fps.

this isnt reaaallly a dslr becuase there is no real reflex, its dumb SLT. anyway the 1dx can pop 14 fps on super high speed
chubsnellie 1 month ago
Of course it sounds a "little bit different" when there is no mirror movement at all. That's why this is a SLT and not a SLR camera.

DSLR Camera ? OR AK-47 rifle ? lol... The canon 1dx sound very better !

Sony go home! Nikon AND Canon are much better when it comes to technology!
And of course the shutter sound is more mechanical. I prefer that.

@NoRiEvent It's the picture quality and photographers experience that count not the "technology"
ericipericie 1 month ago
@ericipericie yes and the picture quality is better than sony's ;)
I just ordered my 1Dx, but people without experience or knowledge wouldn't get better pics out of this cam than from a 500D!
