If you were around in 1975-79 you would have heard the same exact comments about Punk that you hear about rap/hip-hop today.
The only thing about punk is that it died out from the mainstream for a while and came back to a lesser and less shocking 2nd wave. Punk isn't shocking anymore, it's expected. That's why no one says anything.
whats funny about watching this video is that, in the 80's, Black Flag was the deffinition of punk. I think 60's was The Who, and so on and so forth. Just like that you can see how much punk has changed, and I think that's cool :)

If all those Street punk bands are "real" punk then why don't they sound anything like the Ramones, The Clash or, for that matter, any original 70's punk bands?
Not to defend the guys in the video, but punk started out poppy and melodic and you can't deny that. The Ramones wanted to be the next Beach Boys and they wanted world fame, so you can't really knock a band if they don't sound angry and super fast like the Casualties.

nah nah its not that I want music to be loud, angry, and fast, I think they're lackin the entire spirit of punk I mean look into half these bands lyrics they're lackin meaning I mean who am I to judge but by my interpretation I don't classify them as punk one bit it's just they don't seem to have any of those lyrics that mean anything they just seem to be appealing to the general public and radiofriendly.

Well, there's a few good books out there that cite Hip-hop as being "black punk."
If you were around in 1975-79 you would have heard the same exact comments about Punk that you hear about rap/hip-hop today.
The only thing about punk is that it died out from the mainstream for a while and came back to a lesser and less shocking 2nd wave. Punk isn't shocking anymore, it's expected. That's why no one says anything.

whats funny about watching this video is that, in the 80's, Black Flag was the deffinition of punk. I think 60's was The Who, and so on and so forth. Just like that you can see how much punk has changed, and I think that's cool :)

Punk is a reaction. A statement. It doesn't have a specific sound and it doesn't look a certain way. Punk is purely a state of mind. And the way the word is used nowadays is a complete contradiction in terms. As soon as you start trying to define something like Punk and the Punk scene, it becomes generic, just like everything else...which is why we have to move forwards...not backwards. It needs to progress. Punk should be about reinvention. And it needs to challenge people again.

The first wave was Richard Hell and The Voidoids, The Dictators, The New York Dolls, The Stooges and bands like that who were a little harsh-er, and sung about teenage angst and shit. Then the Ramones and the Pistols. The guy who put the Sex Pistols together even asked Richard Hell to be the singer cause John Lydon wasn't in the band yet. That's when the word Punk came out. There used to be signs back then that said Punk Is Coming and no one knew what it meant.

MCR may not be completely 'punk enough' to actually be considered as punk, but they have a hint of it. their song 'our lady of sorrows' is pretty fast-paced. and these are the main lines in the song: "Stand up fucking tall, dont let them see your back
And take my fucking hand and never be afraid again".
u might be thinking 'oh but this is just one song'. but like i said, they do have a hint of punk. they dont like to label themselves. so this isnt their fault for being in the movie.
