When did the Prodapopov's ice dance? I know they won several years in a row, but I cannot remember if it was ice danicng or pairs. I thoutht it was ice dancing. I can remember my father saying at the times that our American athletes were privately funded; however, the state paid for the Russian's training at the time. How things have changed.
@mickerin64 The Protopoppov's were Pairs Skaters, starting in the early 60's and claiming the 1964 gold medal in a showdown with the Germans, Kilias/Baulmer. Yes, we have a new commercial system, and people make a good bit of money. It doesn't seem to really favor American skaters though......but it lets people stay in if they want to......best wishes
They have been a historical couple making The Ice dance an Olympic eligible sport.
Thank you for that. She was amazing even watching now, 34 years later!! So charming, and technically perfect. Great sense of music and presence of the ice.
Незабвенные Пахомова и Горшков! Этот танец - истинный шедевр, который смотришь на одном дыхани: столько вдохновения, изумительная пластика,вкус - ничего лишнего. Спасибо!
I remember several of the skaters from the 60s and 70s but then it becomes harder. Comes with age or has it something to do with the skater. Pakhomova was something of a queen on the ice. She owned it and she really danced on the ice with her partner. It is sad to hear that she is dead, she wasn´t old at all. But she lives inside my "ice-skater-heart"! I will look forward to see your new video, my brother speeks russian so he can translate. .
Wonderful video! I remember them from my teens when I loved to watch ice skating. I so wondered what happened to her and seldom have I seen any videos about her or her partner. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. I love it and I love ice skating!!
Thanks for commenting. I have a new post coming up soon, that has her talking about ice dancing! I don't think she would be pleased with the present state of affairs!!! She did die around 1987, from Luekemia as I recall. She was certainly loved by people around the world!!! best wishes
@rociodog Pakhomova died of Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1986 and was interred in the Donskoie Cemetery in Moscow. Pakhomova was posthumously inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1988, along with Gorshkov.
@RaymondHng Thanks for the information! I also had Hodgkins back in 2006 2007, What a shame the medical treatments were not as advanced back then, even so few years ago. Chemo is NOT fun!! We keep her close to our hearts!! best wishes
@RaymondHng Thank you very much for your reply. I really love figure skating and to see videos from the "good old time" makes me smile and forget the bad times of today ( not always bad but sometimes). Very kind of you!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! I would certainly post any Pakamova video I come across!! I do have some audio of World competition, that I will be posting with some pictures as a video montage soon....I'll let you know when I post it! or just subscribe to get a periodic update...best wishes
wow I was lucky enough to see this live, how great to see them again,i was a teacher and saw them skate many events, they were an inspiration and she will always be remembered
glad you found it! ice dancing has come such a long way since then....but this is charming! I really like the tango part! hope you had many successful students! best wishes
