I think this is more along the lines. Maybe it is the double entendre but I'm going to say that it could just as easily be about the way we live, how consumerism/capitalism is kind of a plague and it is going to put us into a position we don't want to be in. I don't really take Mos Def for a conspiracy theorist of any sort - I think he's a little more intelligent than that. But, I could know nothing at all, too.

I think alot of people miss the point and dont give Mos Def credit he is a very smart guy. Look at it this way, he is talking about The New World Order, he is cleverly masking the meaning in a double entendré... Think about it, "new world water is politics" and politics like water control many vital areas in our lives. One our "water" is poisioned society suffers.... it makes sense to me, I dont know if you guys agree... But lyrically this is on point, no doubt about it.

Everything on this planet depends upon water which is essentially the most valuable resource. We won't know how important the water is until the well runs dry. Water is the most abundant resource on this planet. Too bad we've polluted it to the point we don't know what's in it or what brands are safe to drink. Filtered, recycled, mountain stream, tap etc. Only the Mighty Mos could point out how serious this problem is becoming in a way that's informative and entertainig at the same time!!
