One of the most memorable games of my childhood! Last game the Lakers and Celtics would play each other at the old Boston Garden, and Van Exel pulls it off with an amazing shot. Still remember this game like it was yesterday.
@glhiphopmusic Now what I was talking about was "seasoning" of the players i.e: experience etc, etc... The coach is the coach, fine but those players of the 94/95 squad still needed that certain something. Again, Championship team? OH NAY. Fun team to watch? OH YES. Anyways wow... I feel like we're on Lakersground or something. LOL. Love the debate Glhiphop. (On a side note: My bad, that Nick and Maj pushing of the refs incidents were the 95/96 campaign. OOPS. haha)
I like how Rick Fox (number 44) was just standing there like " I cant believe tht muthafucker made tht!!!!!!" his stance is priceless. He was boxing the lakers out and all the sudden Nick made it. KMSL
@MrJordanjump LOL, ya know.... that's probably when Foxy put on some "Purple and Gold" sunglasses. He was probably like, "screw this franchise, as soon as my contract is up, I'm going HOLLYWOOD BABY!" hahaha. 2 years later, waddayaknow.... HE DID. Good decision Foxy. 3 rings. Not bad, not bad at all! :D
lol, i remember that game too. nick was one of my favorite laker players growing up. wasn't it the last game between the celts/lakes in the old garden? if it was... BURN boston, haha! ;D
@jzbass72 Yeah, I loved that team too! That was when the "Lake Show" was born with Ced, Eddie, Nick, Vlade, Elden, peeler, etc.... those were the days. We were not "championship caliber" yet, but it was a good team that was fun to watch.
@glhiphopmusic Thx for the reply. Okay.... I don't want to debate over this but, NO THEY WHERE NOT. It pains me to say that. But at the time (the 94/95 campaign) I believe it was the the first time that group were playing together. (adding EJ/CED etc) Wasn't the year before Randy "EFFIN" Phund was coaching? You're going to tell me after going through the "Phund" year, we were championship caliber? Uh, NO. The 94/95 team were talented but they still needed seasoning.
@dos21977 Seasoning it's coaching when you have the talent or some of it on your team, it's your job to get them going. The Lake Show made Dell look like a great coach, he wasn't. Look at the coaches who have made the finals in the 2000's, Doc Rivers, Van Gundy, Avery Johnson, Byron Scott, Larry Bird. Weren't some of these first time or on their second team coaching? Those that weren't were Brown twice, Riley and The Boy toy.
@glhiphopmusic I don't care if PJ or that caliber were coaching that team, no way they were going to win a "ship" that year. (Although it was a weak year to win it while MJ was out of the league.) But I feel you though. My Teenager self way back when would say, "HELL YEAH! CHAMPIONSHIP BABY!" My older wiser self now is saying. "probably not". It was a great team to watch back then, fun times and I'll leave it at that. (didn't help that Nick and Maj pushed some refs that year though. LOL)
@dos21977 It's all about match ups. Look at who Houston beat Orlando and New York. We would have matched up just as good (if not better) as the Rocket line up did is all I'm saying. Look where Dell Harris has been coaching, once I realized he was on Dallas Mavs I had that gut feeling the Heat were going to come back and beat the Mavs when I saw him on the bench and they did. He was in Chicago and they have been losing then he went to New Jersey. Who knows where the heck he is now?
@glhiphopmusic Hey how are ya doin. Ironically enough, I do believe in matches as well and no we would of NOT matched up well against Orlando or NY. Why? We would been destroyed by either front lines. Look at this: Shaq/Ho.Grant, Ewing/Oak, and us...Divac/Campbell. Which one is the LEAST intimidated? Also from top to bottom I LOVED our starters and some reserves (A.P, Sedale...) the rest? Who were we going to count on? PIG? Antonio Harvey? Randolf Keys? The other 2 had better talent 1-12.
@glhiphopmusic Go and have a look at our 94-95 team online. Now, can you honestly say that we were Championship caliber with that roster up and down? From my view: No way. uh-uh. Good team but Champs?...no. With the Dell issue: So you telling me you are going to solely blame Dell for the Mavs shortcomings for their lost in the Finals in 06? ...LOL now I heard it all.... I did not know Dell had this knack of misfortune! You are telling me that they lost because DELL was sitting on the bench?!
i had forgotten all about this, maybe its cuz i was 7 at the time, but now that i saw it, it brings back some memories, wow, i think i want to cry. GOOOO LAKER, REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT,
My favorite buzzer beater from Van eXel was during the Playoffs against San Antonio. I think it was during this year. I remember when he hit that three pointer all the Spurs fans were FLIPPING HIM OFF.....HE WAS FUNNY as hell....I wonder if this dude has that video
Yeah, that shot against the Spurs was the same year as this one. I remember the series before the Spurs, against the Sonics, Van Exel outplayed Gary Payton all series. I loved that 95 Laker squad with Van Exel, Eddie Jones, and Ceballos.
I remember this. I was coming back from work. I worked the swing shift from 5 pm to 2 am. I had recorded this on my vcr. When I watched this I couldn't go back to sleep because of this ending. Man the Lakers were pretty decent that year for a bunch of scrubs. Eddie Jones was my favorite Laker that time and Van Exel
they needed something to celebrate I don't think they made the playoffs nor did they think they were going to make em...there's a big rivalry between the two teams so a close win like that is something to celebrate.
This was a nice team... Didn't really have a star, but Van Exel, Ceballos, Divac, Jones, Christie etc. played pretty good. Del Harris was doing a great job as well.
Yea but he will never be remembered the way Nick will be. Nick=one of the most talented point guards to ever play. He did whatever he wanted on the court, whenever he felt like doing it. He played on his own terms. Rick Fox cud stare at his rings all he wants, at the end of the day he's still sorry ass Rick Fox, a sheep. Nick's a straight up wolf!
What did Pierce win before Garnett & Ray Allen came to boston? I recall in 2002, when pierce and the celtics had a 2 games to 1 lead over Jason Kidd's nets in the Eatern conference finals, boston loses the next 3 games in a row! And during that summer, Pierce was on the USA Basketball team playing for the FIBA World Championship. His team finishes in 6th place, that is the worst finish ever by a USA mens team with NBA players!
LOL, uhm no. None of those guys you mentioned are going to NYK. Lebron is a Cav for life. Nash may go since he likes D'Antoni's system but Bosh won;t go because he wants to win Titles and D,ANtoni does not coach defense and defense wins titles. All these Knick fans crack me up. They think those stud players are automatically gonna go to them in 2010. They also think Nate Robinson is a good player when he has no business being in the NBA.
The Cavs owners will pay Lebron whatever he wants, Knicks can match but when money's on the line he'll stay in Cleveland. Knicks can have Nash, by 2010 he'll be 33 and past his prime. Bosh is a defensive player and he wouldn't fit in at all with D"Antoni.
Knick fans make me laugh....the Knicks don't just get whoever they want, they're not the Yankees.
Who says Lebron won't replace KG in Boston in 2010? Would anyone see that coming?
I agree with you guys, New York is treating it's players like shit, they don't have any form of elegance when trying to clear their salary cap. It's sad to see that Curry isn't even playing the whole season. But, summer of 2010 is still going to be a blast! Just for the record, Nash will be 36 next year and his prime is really long gone.
You Sell-Out Celtics better buy some more all stars for next season! The Lakers are young and will be back with Bynum next season! Always remember celtic fans, Kobe has 3 rings, pirece, garnett & allen have 1. Kobe will win a gold medal next month, something pierce will never have! Dum-ass
@Aelbereth Wasn't pierce on the 2002 USA Fiba Basketball team? He was & they finished in 6th place. That was the worst finish ever by the US in internationl play. I posted my previous comment 3 yrs ago.
Van Excel was such an awesome player. He was one of my favorite's from the 90's. He was very under-rated and it's a crying shame that he never got more respect.
Its so great to hear Chick Hearn again. Miss the guy. I cant remember how many game winning shots the Lakers have had over the years against the Celtics.
Fu*ken awesome shot! I watched it live the first time back in 1995, and I've recalled it in my mind many times since then... Today, it was on my mind again and I thought I'd check youtube to see if somebody had posted the clip... Thanks! N.V.E. was the man, and that Lakers team had a lot of grit and determination... I miss those guys!
Ced was busy talking trash to the refs... so was Del Harris... The refs blew the call right before, Dino Radja hit the runner which gave the Celts the lead. That's why Stu said, "That's naturally right."
Still one of my favorite plays ever. Anyone who can put the Celts away in the last game at Boston Garden will always have my respect.
PLO tactics, i feel the same way about van exel. Even tho he wasnt the greatest Laker, i loved his unique flair for the game. nobody really plays the game quite like he does, with his herky jerky moves and weird shooting form. Oh, and dude was mad clutch too! i loved how he could miss 20 shots during the game, but hit the one that counted!
Anyone has the one from the playoffs (94 or 95, I think) against spurs where Vlade tipped a shot towards half court and Van hit a running one-hander to save the Lakers from elimination? Anyone remember that one?
LOL! He was rippin' one of the Refs a new one because they blew an out of bounds call on David Wesly that lead to the Celtic possession that gave them the lead. This was the last game the Lakers played at Boston Garden. Nick "The Quick" sent the fans home stunned.
I have this game. There was a story in the local LA papers about Ced sulking about something team related -- Chick alluded to that story during that very game. This was Jan 95, mind you. Didn't take half a season w/ the Lakers before Ced started flaking out.
I'm lookin to trade for Chick Hearn broadcasts from 1995 or earlier. If you have any that I don't or know anyone who does, let me know and I'll be glad to trade w/ them and they can pass the game onto you.
LOL, I remember this game winning shot vividly! I was 13 years old, and I remember having a little miniature rubber basketball credit-card-signup-giveaway freebies in my hand. I was steaming that Boston hit a shot with 2.4 seconds to put them up by one. Then Van Exel hit the shot, I got so excited I meant to slam the ball off the wall but I missed and hit a picture frame knocking it off the wall and shattering it! I lied to my parents when they came home, told them it fell. LOL. Memories. :)
I remember that music....KCAL used it from 90-96, back when all they carried where the Lakers. And Yes the Lakers did own the Garden. Now the Celtics are pure garbage.
jzbass72 - I agree completely. That team, pre Shaq and Kobe, was always in every game. Van Exel was pure clutch. Remember game 5 against the Spurs that year when he hit that running 3 pointer to send the series to a game 6?
That '94-'95 Laker squad is one of my all time favorites. They had talent and a good coach, but weren't nearly as powerful as the Showtime or Shaq & Kobe squads. What they did have was a terrific, never-say-die attitude.
What they didn't show on this broadcast that they showed on The Sportschannel NE was the side angle where he stepped out of bounds!

Was that the last game between the Lakers and the Celtics at the Forum? No, so it means nothing.
Van Exel shut down the Boston Garden with that shot, bitter Celtics fan.

Van Excel was such an awesome player. He was one of my favorite's from the 90's. He was very under-rated and it's a crying shame that he never got more respect.
Zeeboe 4 years ago 3
Its so great to hear Chick Hearn again. Miss the guy. I cant remember how many game winning shots the Lakers have had over the years against the Celtics.
javiercetina1 4 years ago 2
Fu*ken awesome shot! I watched it live the first time back in 1995, and I've recalled it in my mind many times since then... Today, it was on my mind again and I thought I'd check youtube to see if somebody had posted the clip... Thanks! N.V.E. was the man, and that Lakers team had a lot of grit and determination... I miss those guys!

Look at Ceballos #23 at 0:56. Looked he was playing for the Celts, like he didnt even care wtf
okayplyer 4 years ago
Ced was busy talking trash to the refs... so was Del Harris... The refs blew the call right before, Dino Radja hit the runner which gave the Celts the lead. That's why Stu said, "That's naturally right."
Still one of my favorite plays ever. Anyone who can put the Celts away in the last game at Boston Garden will always have my respect.

i remember peleer from the SNES games

PLO tactics, i feel the same way about van exel. Even tho he wasnt the greatest Laker, i loved his unique flair for the game. nobody really plays the game quite like he does, with his herky jerky moves and weird shooting form. Oh, and dude was mad clutch too! i loved how he could miss 20 shots during the game, but hit the one that counted!
crzybastad 4 years ago
Oh and fuck Del Harris with an aids infected dildo
PLOtactics 4 years ago
I still remembered this shot to this day, and although it's been over 12 years since I've seen it, this is exactly how I remembered it.
Nick is my favorite Laker of all time, and one of the most insane clutch players we will ever see. I cried when he was traded.
PLOtactics 4 years ago
Anyone has the one from the playoffs (94 or 95, I think) against spurs where Vlade tipped a shot towards half court and Van hit a running one-hander to save the Lakers from elimination? Anyone remember that one?
chelau 4 years ago
I like how del harris thinks hes the shit after lol
francizzz 4 years ago 2
LOL! He was rippin' one of the Refs a new one because they blew an out of bounds call on David Wesly that lead to the Celtic possession that gave them the lead. This was the last game the Lakers played at Boston Garden. Nick "The Quick" sent the fans home stunned.

hey look its Rick Fox in his Boston days. haha.
isaiahcruz 4 years ago 2
I have this game. There was a story in the local LA papers about Ced sulking about something team related -- Chick alluded to that story during that very game. This was Jan 95, mind you. Didn't take half a season w/ the Lakers before Ced started flaking out.
chriso728 4 years ago
You have the game?
Let me buy a copy.
EpicProportion 3 years ago
I'm lookin to trade for Chick Hearn broadcasts from 1995 or earlier. If you have any that I don't or know anyone who does, let me know and I'll be glad to trade w/ them and they can pass the game onto you.

Ok I'll find out.

What they did have was a terrific, never-say-die attitude.
jzbass72 4 years ago
I made this video and have the full length game among others. If you have any games from 80-95 that you'd like to trade, please PM me here. Thx.
