  • lila waste' absolutely in Lakota "very nice' pronounced lee la wash tay

  • QUE BUENA ROLA DE ESTA BANDA

    ARRIBA CHICAGO

  • "Wishing You Were Here" was with BB.

  • I think this was part of a special on Chicago around 1974? They were all in Colorado, the beautiful wives and girlfriends were in the special, too. It was very cool.

  • My second favorite song by these great artists right after Happy Man.

  • @Mgarguemare Where were the Beach Boys included with Chicago? Not with this song but with other ones I think.

  • @ClubViking63 I have no idea what you're saying or asking.

  • @Mgarguemare Wishing you were here they were singing together.

  • @ClubViking63 Cool.

I also saw them together with E,W&F awesome!!!!!!

  • @Mgarguemare Anyway Terry Kath was The Man of Chicago! Just go a few years back and listen to the songs.....

  • some one told me its that guy from that show Welcom back carter on the drums is this true?

  • Oldskool70. Peter was fired by the band. He didn't want to go on tour, and they did. God bless!

  • Hit #6 in Billboard. Anybody else think that Jim, Rob. Lee, and Walt should let Peter back in the band after all these years? It's time to let bygones be bygones. God bless! Write back and let me know!

  • @DaveWollenberg Yes I do... But Peter doesn't even talk about them anymore, he says that it would be the same as talking about an ex-wife... He wouldn't want to get back in the band at all ... I'd love to see this happening, but he definitely hates the idea... Unfortunately.

  • @cidaliacastro

Exactly right. Peter has said before. I don't think any hard feelings....just the next phase of life after a divorce. I first saw them in 1969 when they were the house band at the Whiskey in L. A. I think this version of Chicago is the best one since then. By the way...Terry Kath live was awesome!!

  • So why did peter leave in the first place?? Dont know much about Chicago or why Peter left so if you dont mind please let me no

  • @DaveWollenberg Yes, that would be great...but, I don't think it will happen. Pete wanted to go on his own, and has an ego the size of....well, I won't say. The lead singer they have now who replaced him is very good, though.

  • @DaveWollenberg I was lucky enough to see Chicago before Peter left and it's a shame that the guys can't let go of their hurt feelings and get the line up together again. The same goes for Three Dog Night keeping Chuck Negron out. It's sad.

  • @DaveWollenberg What's the point - Peter can't sing anymore.

  • @manco82 Did he wreck his voice with cigarettes? Fill me in, if possible. God bless!

  • @DaveWollenberg He's 66, OLD.

  • @manco82 his voice is pretty well pooched. Completely gone are the high notes he was famous for. His voice is bearly beyond a whisper now. Does orchestral shows now. Maybe cigarettes had something to do with it but I think he just blew it out.

  • @manco82 He never really could sing well live.

  • @manco82 agreed. His pipes are pooched.

  • Brilliant song , but thi s video is so chop py it isn't even wo rth the listen ing to.....get it...jeez it's call edit properly before you post this!

  • Did you read the description of the video, genius??????? There's a better version of it that I posted! Read before writing!!!!! And for being rude... well, you're blocked.

  • Excellent song, excellent video, excellent post!

  • Wow! I remembered seeing this performance when it originally aired when I was a kid. Chicago used to air these summer specials in the early to mid-seventies. This is the first time I've seen this since then. Where did you find this?

  • me encanta esta banda al aire libre como debe de SER y esta cancion entre todas nos recuerda la buena musica y los buenos musicos

  • You will NEVER EVER hear this quality of musicianship EVER again..... Thank God we were there to hear it back in the day!!!!

  • Amen to that !!!!!

  • Any one know if it is possible to get the entire performance on DVD or even VHS?

  • audio is kinda skttish...but hell rather enjoyed it over listening to newer stuff..not to mention the guys looked like they were havin fun.

  • LOL..bds, I know..I remember going over to Grandpa & Grams to spend the night every Sat. night. I would sneak up in my uncle's room and play all his Chicago records. I loved this shit when I was 8 or 9

  • cool

  • Thank you cidaliacastro!!! Chicago is one of my all time favorite bands!!! "Call on me" , is STILL my favorite Chicago song!!!

  • Anyone know what kinda of phaser Terry is using???? MXR p90????

  • Don't know, but I use a B**S PH-2 with my telecasters to faithfully capture Terry's sound.

  • i remember this as well!! its like visiting old friends that you havent seen in a long long time! what a welcome change from my norm!! thanks for an awesome post!!! peace clark

  • I remember this show ! 1974...Ann Murray Al Green and Charlie Rich were on this show with them. The Al Green track appears on "VI" I tape recorded it by holding a little mike to the speaker and listened to that tape for years. I remember they did The Beatles " You Won't See Me" with Anne and it was great !

Holy crap...never thought I'd see this again !!! Holy cra

  • hey you went to caribou ranch??

  • Brazilian musician Laudir de Oliveira is a great percussionist

  • He was part of the painting crew on the cover of CHICAGIO IX GREATEST HITS. He and the original 7 band members had their asses beaten by the cop's billy club. The dog was spared. And that angry woman tried to get the crew down off their scaffold with her cleaver. The guys were trying to paint their logo to let the neighborhood know that they were one of the best bands on the planet.

  • Excellent!

  • the drummer in this band is just amazing

  • Very cool. Thx for posting...

  • lol @ the random dude with the ladder. awesome vid/song. thanks for uploading !

  • Still one of my favorite Chicago songs next to Happy Man. Nothing but good music back then ...Just plain ole great tunes to take you back when music was truly music.

  • They're still touring and sound even better now after decadeds of practice!! But miss the guitar work of Terry Kath....

  • Libralady1010, you are on top of it, huh? I'm impressed and I don't impress easy. I love this group, and to see the original group members together on film is extremely rare now, because they rarely did TV appearances. Libralady1010...Check this out: Jimi Hendrix was once asked who his favorite guitarist, and guess who he said? Terry Kath!

  • I would not...ever...have guessed that. :D

  • Hard to believe, huh? But true!

  • These guys are truly the masters of brass. To bad mainstream doesn't have what we had back then.

  • This is almost a jazz song with the changes. Simply wonderful harmonies. Gold

  • The NINI"S..were beautiful an YOUNG!!

  • Your comment shows--quite perfectly--just why things were better thirty years ago.

Because people treated each other much more kindly back then.

As for you, you can go...go anywhere else.

  • Followup to previous: GOD! I wish I could feel the same way about life today...

...as I felt about it then! :D

  • One of the greatest American bands!

  • Harmony vocals are in a different key...and it works so well here!!! Thanks for posting...lotta great memories in this song!!

  • OOpps me bad...it was Julie.

  • Terry was married to Camelia Ortiz, after he passed she married Keifer Sutherland. I think Robert Lamm and Peter Cetera were married to sisters Diane Mini and maybe Mary Mini? Can't really remember (so long ago).

  • That's correct, but the women's names are Diane Nini and Julie Nini. They were models at the time. Both had kids with them. Peter dated Diane since 1972 and officially married her ten years later. They split up in the nineties. Robert and Julie split up earlier.

  • And both Diane and Julie appear in the Happy Man video, which I posted here too. :)

  • Diane's daughter with Peter is Claire and Julie's daughter with Robert is Sasha. :)

  • You are correct.loves this laid back an joint in hand FEEL the Good times

  • Who's the congo player? I've seen him on a few other vids. He looks like someone from the Soprano's....LOL

  • CongA. He's Laudir de Oliveira, Brazilian percussionist.

  • Wow what a song! The Brazilian conga player makes this song a classic.

  • I went to see Chicago everytime I could they always played the forum in LA Cause it was big enuff for the crowds they drew. Totally great memories we all sang so loud we were horse for days My love to them Tara

  • Great video. Great group. My all time favorite Chicago song. Will be seeing them in concert in a week. Not quite the same without Peter Cetera, but horn section all original along with Robert Lamm.

  • Destiny/Interlude did this in the early 80's as a copy tune in the Greater/Sac. area.

  • listen to that voice!!!!!

  • I remember when this hit the radio, was the song that made me love the band.

  • this is a gem.there is a song on chicago 13 called "life is what it is " penned by Laudir de Oliveira , which is one of my favourite chicago songs.

  • this is no where like steely dan. cetera is a musical god.

  • Diane Nini, where have you gone?

  • he never remarried did he?

  • Kath??? I believe he did and is still married to her, although I don't know her name.

  • Cetera married Diane nini. They divorced in the early 1990's, he has another young daughter under 10 but I don't think he remarried.

  • No, I meant his 2nd wife. He is still married to.

  • All the websites say young daughter, lives in Idaho and former girlfriend...which is a shame that no one is married to him really lol.

  • Diane Nini WAS his 2nd wife. Back in 1966,'67he was married to Janice Cetera. She owns a Beauty Salon in northern Illinois and-to the best of my knowledge-has never remarried.

  • The best song... up there like a steely dan song.

  • i have always wondered - where are these guys from?

  • These guys are from Chicago Colorado!

    Bring back CARIBOU RANCH!

  • there from Chicago, IL look it up on wiki

  • they are really from chicago - in fact, they met at DePaul University.

  • The "'horns " met at DePaul and Danny went there for a year or so-not sure if Kath went there or not. Know there's a scholarship set up @ DePaul in his memory. Bobby went to Roosevelt University near Schaumberg,IL. In fact, he was born and lived in Brooklyn NY until age 15 before moving back to Chicago.

  • Hey--The first few seconds of this video is from an instamatic camera picture a friend of mine took way back in August 1974 when we all climbed on top of the entrance gate to the Caribou Ranch. We were in Colorado at the time and had heard that Elton John, Chicago, and others were recording there, so we just tried to drop on in and catch a session. Amazing that this photo has surfaced after 34 years.

  • Gee...and I was just about to ask if this was shot up at Caribou Ranch...lol.

I lived in Boulder then too, and we had also heard Elton John was in town.

Chicago, Elton and the Beach Boys were my own "big three" back then. And Herb Alpert and Sergio Mendes of the stuff my parents introduced me to.

Those were the real "magic days."

  • Hate my ass fat fran, I was merely making note of several posts ago the beaners attitude that the song couldn't be this good without the Brazilian Conga player. They choose to ignore Chicago's talent and how great they are and that most anyone could play congas with few lessons and no handicaps, like the one between your ears. Yet another America hater pops out her ugly head.

  • Music, like love, the international language. I don't care where you're from or what language you speak this song is just wonderful. I love the vibe, the lyrics, the instruments. Rock on.

  • Yeah the group probally went back to burn it

down after being burnt out by guerico...

  • Ogene - Laudir De Oliveira is from Brazil I believe; the one above playing the bongos.

Can't we all just get along? Music has no language barrier. I even like some of Julio Iglesias songs. Can't understand it, but like the music. As Wolfgang Puck says, live, love, get drunk, fall down....

  • Great song and Great Video. Love it! Dancing. ;)

  • he he he...

  • We all make music for the world (we musicians - no matter where from). Music has no boundaries. You should think about it. I'm sorry, but speaking like you did, you sound even a little "nazi". Thank God not everybody thinks like you. God bless and take care.

  • Are you crazy? You say God Bless after calling me a Nazi? What a wacked out hypocrite! Just because I LOVE my country, have NO desire to visit any other and feel we should remain a sovereign nation does not make me a Nazi, it makes me a proud American. I'm glad you like Chicago and Brazil but our young'ns back then were the geniouses of music. This site and the very internet itself were founded here. We are NOT one big happy family and never will be nor were we intended to be.

  • I feel sorry for you. That's all.

I just think that a little respect for the human being is a very good thing...

I respect you, and I respect the one that posted in Spanish too...

And there are geniouses everywhere, not just in the US.

    Get back to Earth.

I'm not here to change anybody's mind, but I prefer to be real in a real world. And the real world is soo wide and full of people, and full of countries and different cultures. Everybody should respect that.

    Peace.

  • I respect them when they come here and assimilate. If they don't forget where I live. I've proven that before. I can respect your nation or anyones whose government and people don't hate us. You hate us.....don't do it to my face.

  • If I hated you and your country, why would I love Chicago in the first place? If I hated you as you say, I would never post an American video using my profile. Think again.

I hate disrespectful and hatred attitudes...

And it's a good thing to respect where people come from. That's one good reason to be respected. ;)

  • So my opinion about a guy posting in Mexican on an American web site written by American artists and performed by American artists is wrong. Isn't this a lovely song? Just listen and leave me alone.

  • first of all, its spanish, not mexican, and its not an american website, its international you fucking dumbass...and if Chicago didnt want anybody but americans listening to this song, then they wouldve kept themselves domestic, not international, you dumbass

  • Spanish people HATE the language in MEXICO being referred to as Spanish. That garbage they speak in the thrid worl nation is like street rap is to English, but then you're too fucking stupid to get that. How do you keep music domestic dumbass!?

  • I would not try to respond to such hate spreaders. it is known there are many extreme radicals on youtube posing as americans talking garbage causing hate for their own agenda. who thinks like this ogenellla? only someone of much hate and evil intention. your video is great!

  • ah yes, another radical with an agenda hiding behind a false internet channel stirring up hate among mankind not his own. your arrogance speaks loudest.

  • Ogenella, please, no prejudice here...This appears worldwide, everybody's free to post here, it's better in English so most of us can understand, but we should respect everybody, ok?

And answering to your question, on congas is Laudir de Oliveira, former Chicago's Brazilian percussionist.

    Peace,

    Cidalia

  • What's "prejudice" about pride of country? Our music, our country, oour artists just rock! No one else from ANY other country wrties or performs like our artists. We INVENTED ROCK!

  • And...?

We Brazilians inventend the worldwide famous and cult Bossa Nova and Samba... And yes, I'm proud of it too. But It doesn't make me feel even comfortable by judging or attacking foreign people that declare love for our music or tries to play it(no one can as well), it makes me feel even more proud! You should feel that too. (continue)

  • This reminds me of my teenage years growing up in the 1970s. My friend and I had all of Chicagos albums. We loved Peter Cetera and Bobby Lamm. Wish I could go back sometimes.

  • Este video es parte del programa llamado "Meanwhile, back at the ranch",presentado al aire en el mes de agosto por la cade abc en estados unidos. Call on me (Llamame) es parte del sonido clasico de chicago. Feliz 40 aniversario al grupo.

  • ENGLISH PLEASE! This is AMERICA, you don't come here because it sucks! Note the song is in ENGLISH!

  • I like all this classic stuff by Chicago, this tune in particular sounds very Earth Wind & Fire. Chicago were very funky back in the day, so how come I missed all this music

  • Lee wrote the song. Great brass on this one.

I remember hearing this song when I was a kid on vacation in Colorado. Whenever I think of Colorado, I think of these guys.

  • Is that Dave Brown, former Santana percsussionist on coangas?

  • Fun!Bad ass band,my friends agree with me.I love Chicago!

  • Great footage of them recording and performing from Caribou Ranch in Colorado. For you prog/fusion fans out there, Return to Forever (Chick Corea, Al Di Meola, et al) would record their classic 'Romantic Warrior' at that same Colorado Rockies studio in 1976 (maybe Chicago fans don't care about such trivia...)

  • Also, Tony Williams and Allan Holdsworth were there

    recording Tony's "Lifetime" stuff ...

  • This band was my Led Zeppelin Rolling Stones Beatles and Hendrix rolled into one. I live to buy the sketch scores and play along with the records in the basement....the sound and execution on this clip is inspiring and the sound still hits me....

  • Now that's what I like, real beautiful sunny outdoor video in the forests :) Call On me bitch 1974 ;)

  • People, I already added a better version of this video, with a better sound! The address is in the description of this video.

Thanks for watching and for the comments!

  • Great video of probably my most favorite Chicago tune, due to the great rhythm with added colorful percussion, great vocals and of course a great horn arrangement. Thanks from trumpeter meauxhorn!

  • Wish the sound was better. It's such a phenom song.

  • Hey!!!! leave Jimmy alone....I go to see Chicage now just to see that sexy man!!!! I have been a fan from the beginning and will be to the end!!!!!! it must be a guy that made the gay comment....cause any woman that is a true Chicago/Jimmy Pankow fan would never say something so asinine.

  • Ah, the classic Chicago. I grew up listening to that band. Unfortunately, they were never the same after Terry Kath died (how could they be??) and the band "jumped the shark" totally for me after Chicago 17.

  • Compare this to the 2005 You Tube version with EWF.

No comparison, I will live in the past and enjoy the vintage sound of the original band.

  • This is when I fell in love with the brass section. I am a horn player since then.

  • This was a TV special that I saw when I was a kid. They where in the mountains. A long time ago. The best band to party to and dance and hug with your favourite girl.

  • terrific!

    thanx

    françois

  • Thanks for this!

  • Great..Looking for Chicago's 1974 New Year's Rockin Eve performance...can anyone help. misskarpathos

  • Home sweet home!

  • Awesome!

  • Dang my fav Chicago song!!!!

  • I had their posters all over my room, right next to Farrah's. Wore the grooves out on some of their albums. The original line-up of Chicago's musicians are still the best in my opinion...

  • Thank you!

  • They definitely recorded the basics live, but you can hear they double or triple tracked the horns like they did on the studio tracks, and added backing vocals. Having that studio at their disposal definitely helped.

  • Classic Chicago...wow. Great video. And yes, the loss of Seraphine and Cetera were huge. They were never the same after the Chicago 17 album.

  • agree

  • Classic toke out music.. ummm hmmmm butt huggin bells an a Bong so laid back..

  • Is this their version of Woodstock? Awesome!

  • Kick back in the rockies.. look on here at the rockies clips.. it was their studio in the early 70's... Them people was tokin. I was little an lived in Colorado at the time so .. yea they were stoned.. an the audience is all Bellbottmed out!!

  • ..and we're still stoned!

  • Nice retro music video! Do you know if the video is available for purchase anywhere? Thanks

  • The audio track is sort of "live" in as much as they probably recorded the track there at Caribou, but the audio track does not match up with the video---and it's not a Youtube sync problem. Plus, listen to the horns: They never EVER sounded that good & strong in concert. The audio is at best to be considered a studio alternate to the mainstream release we are all very familiar with. I guess they did the cheesey video lipsync just to show off the great outdoors that surrounded Caribou.

  • unless it's a direct board feed without any outside noise? sometimes that happens where it'll sound THAT clean when there's no outside audience noise and reverb from a concert hall.

  • I hear ya, Jeff Kahl. But really, listen to any officially released live recording of Chicago and you'll hear that the horns are never as strong as they are in the studio---even though the live albums are no doubt sweetened with overdubs. The audio track for this video was recorded in a studio.

  • These guys were cookin. You can tell they were having fun. Danny sounds fantastic and his drums and Zildjian's sound great. This clip is a keeper.

  • One of the first 45's I ever bought. Still have it. Chicago was never the same when Cetera left. Thanks for a great old school video!!

  • This was a great band. Three great singers and all great individual players. How they let that become what they are today is beyond me. Bill Champlin came in, brought in David Foster, ran Danny Seraphine out of the band....and ruined them

  • Thank you very much, I remember this show. I thought they did two shows from the Caribou Ranch that year. I first saw them in '68 @ West Chester State College, in Pa. Been following them ever since. I had Super 8 sound of the band from the Spectrum in Philly, doing Call on Me, but time has taken it's toll on the film. Thanks again.

  • I wanna go to Colorado!!

  • Rollo7: hahahaha funniest comment EVER on U-tube!

    Classic!!

  • God, if i had to listen to Peter et-Cetera singing this lounge-lizard crap every night, I'd blow my brains out as well. Kath's flanged guitar is completely buried beneath the many layers of shmaltz.

  • Wow!!! You nailed it... hilareous!!!

  • love this...now do you have the...happyman...from this same show...and ..also chicago in the rockies..

    just hoping..

    thanks alot for this

  • Does Pankow wear that damn tank-top to bed? It is SO gay-friendly. He dresses like this in 2006, still !!!

Come out of that dusty closet James!

  • hahaha!

  • I have waited for years for the videos from the Caribou Ranch days. It is totally sweet to see the original members of Chicago live. Bittersweet, however, because you will never see this incarnation of Chicago again. Outstanding find!

  • TERRIFIC!!!! THUMBS UP!!!!

I was born exactly in 1974 and I became a Chicago fan -a big one- until 1998 when I had the chance to buy their very first CD and when I realized that lates 60 and almost all 70's were Chicago's best years.

Watching them before the terrible Bill Champlin broke down -or joined if you prefer- the band.

I really love'em!!! Is there any place were I can get a DVD of this?

  • I've seen this DVD on ebay every now and then...but its a bootleg (of course). I've not seen anything legal in 20 years (I have a copy on VHS).

  • I remember this, it was from "Meanwhile Back At The Ranch" from 1974. I had a copy of it I got from a fan years ago but since then I moved and can't seem to find it. I wish it would be out on dvd because I would buy it. I remember Anne Murray and Charlie Rich performing on here as well.

  • The only reason I bought the Box set was to get 20 minutes of concert footage from the 70s. I spent over $50 for that. I don't think the band would put out its classic footage because then all their new fans would see how bad they have become compared to their past greatness.

  • Does that DVD have Dialogue I&II on it? I've seen some clips on the Rhino website of SITP and Now That You're Gone, but can't find Dialogue (except on here, with Chaplain and Scheff)

  • Yes, but like most of these videos Kath is obscured. There's even a little backstage time.

  • Where did you find this, and is there more?

  • Caribou Ranch, right?
