I watched this film not to long ago and was shocked when one of the main characters, won't mention whom, got shot and blood shot out everywhere. Through most of the movie, it's your typical "hear gun shots, character screams, clenches fake wound and falls over dead." like most films during the era. Seeing blood (albeit very fake looking) in a 1960s film was a huge shock which made the death much more shocking.

My grandfather fought at Anzio. He was part of the March into Rome.

always had a soft spot for this movie--at a minimum some nice footage of rome at the end.
