@TLee3510 Actually he didn't come from a 3-4 Defense. Nebraska ran a pro style Cover 2 Scheme out of a 4-3 Alignment. The same scheme the Oakland Raiders run. He was just projected to play better in a 3-4 in the pros. Just like JJ Watt from Wisconsin this year. The Rams had him add weight to get up to 315 lbs and then he lost his quickness. He already had played better since going to Washington and playing the 5-tech in the 3-4 they run.
@crazyphatdude14 actually he did come from a 3-4 defence nebraska primarily runs that and i know this cuz my boy played at nebraska during carrikers final year
@TLee3510 Actually no, they didn't run a 3-4. They ran a 3-3-5 with a Rover for years under Osborne and Solich, but Bill Callahan was transitioning to a 4-3 alignment. Film doesn't lie. They used a 3-man front plenty of times, but never did they have 4 linebackers on the field at the same time, and none of them were used as a rush linebacker. All staples of the 3-4. I know Kyle Vanden Bosch and current player Jim Ebke. I can tell you that they never ran a true 3-4.
@crazyphatdude14 ok ur just proving my point.. he came form a 3 down linemen.... he excellted at it rams made the dumbest pick i never knew what type of defence the fucken cornhuskers ran but i knew it was a 3 donw linemen ... FAR From wat rams ran in the 4-3 so it was stupid to pick him up instead of revis
@TLee3510 He played in a 3 front early in his career, but as a senior, when he played well enough to be a first round pick, Callahan had completely transitioned to a 4-3 front. As a senior Carriker almost never lined up inside at tackle and almost always at strong side defensive end. They took him because they thought he could learn to play a different system. Just like Richard Seymour. He played in a 4-3 in college and then won 3 rings in a 3-4 alignment in the Pros.
@TLee3510 Players change schemes from college to the pros all the time. Just sometimes it doesn't work out. Clay Matthews played in a 4-3 at USC as a Weak-Side linebacker. Now he is a Strong-Side Rush Linebacker in a 3-4 in Green Bay and is spectacular. Just some time it doesn't work like with Carriker.
@crazyphatdude14 DO YOU NOT REALISE HOW HARD IT IS TO PLAY A D END IN A 3-4 AND TRY AND CONVERT TO A D TACKLE IN A 4-3? IT ISN"T GONNA HAPPEN VERY OFTEN AND RAMS MADE A HUGE MISTAKE BY NOT TAKING REVIS
@TLee3510 He played the DE in a 3 man front in college for 3 years and then as a senior he played both DE and DT in a 4-3 alignment depending on the situation. Richard Seymour didn't have a problem switching when he went to oakland from new england. Players move to different systems all the time and have to learn how to play a different scheme. It isn't an excuse because plenty of guys do it just fine. And yes, I personally know what it is like to switch schemes when I transferred schools.
@TLee3510 Nobody knew that Revis was going to be as good as he is today. A couple of years ago everybody said that the Texans were stupid for passing on Reggie Bush, but look how that turned out. The bottom line is that you never know and sometimes you pick wrong. Every team does it. And sometimes a team picks somebody that nobody agrees with and they prove everybody wrong. Devin McCourty of the Patriots was considered a reach, but then he makes the Pro Bowl as a rookie. You never know.
@crazyphatdude14 no PLENTY of analysts knew revis was going to be special.... in every single one of his tapes .. he's physical... shut people down and very few times u see receivers catch...... reggie bush and revis situation is different...... running backs are most likely to fail transitioning from college to pro's... CB's that show revis abilities were much more safer..... trust..... carriker was not a great pick... especially if they were trying to obtain a DT
Personally I think he was playing out of position as a Nose Tackle. He needed to play Strong-Side DE or the 5-Technique. Which is what he is going to in Washington in their new 3-4 Defense.
rams are teh dumbest team for doing this....... HE CAME FR OM A 3-4 DEFENCE AND RAMS DRAFTED HIM TO A 4-3 WHEN WE COULD"VE GOT DARRELLE REVIS
