The music is by a Band called 'Whiskey & Gumbo' and is called 'Down South' and no I had never heard of them till I was messing around one day looking for something different to add as an intro to my film......as much as I would like to post the entire record here on YouTube it would only get the Big AXE....lol
A 3 ton flywheel to play techno music? :D Geesh, get a sequencer, get more done too :) Seriously, Nice engine, gotta take my hat to people who collect this kind of things!
If you want to see it being started from scratch go and view my other YouTube channel '744204'
I don't upload any more to this channel but if you enter '3 Ton Flywheel Start up' and look for the film clip with the above channel there's a good one of it being started which lasts about 7min.
That engine running on the back of the Foden must destroy the shock absorbers on the Foden. If I was running that I would jack and block the chassis to stop it rocking around and shaking as it does.Lovely engine and lorry though!!
At first when I saw the comments about a "tank" engine I thought the locomotive type. Then I saw the engine and realised you all were talking about the big tracked fighting tanks...lol
I was exhibiting at that show, my Granddad always used to say to me that one of the days one of those tank engines will shoot a piston through the head from the way he rev's it
The flywheel weighs 3ton as for the rest of it, having seen it many times I reckon the engine could weigh as much so 6ton is just a guess, it's great to stand next to it whenit is been started.
Some one previously asked what would happen if the flywheel came off!! I expect the engine would STOP 'LOL'
This engine was not Built by Diesel, it was built by Vickers petter at Ipswich in 1926 it is rated at 125bhp at 250 rpm and was never built for ship propulsion it was designed for stationary use on land and is one of six known to have survived and it only weighs 9 tons
Vick bought the engine from me in a few years ago for £5,000 the engine has suffered serious frost damage to the lower part of the crankcase. That all said its nice to see it out and about well done Vick
The Engine never went into a Ship it was used for 40+ yr to pump Water for a Northern Water Company. If you look at it carefully you might notice it is running the wrong way, this is because it was made to be installed a ship on the Starboard side so one runs clockwise and the other runs anticlockwise whats known as handed.and if you want to see it being started go look for the other film I have posted again titled 3 Ton Flywheel.
Ive seen both these engines before and they are both amazing. No video can do them justice. The big one I believe is out of a boat but im only 99% sure. The engine out of the tank is deafening and could wake the dead from 1 mile. Great video.
It was designed by Rudolph Diesel just after the turn of the centuary and built about 5yr after his death around 1917 or thereabouts, It was built by 'Petters'
If you google Rudolph Diesel there is good info on him which makes interesting reading!! he died it is beleived by falling off a ship in the english Channel his body was never found.

@s07082811
Yep. I could be wrong but I believe that is a British Leyland L60 opposed-piston diesel. They were used in the Chieftain tank.

If the flywheel came off I wouldn't worry much about the engine stopping. I'd worry that I might be in its path anywhere up to 20 miles away!!

Hmmmm....heating water causes it to expand?
Wow...we could use that to do something useful.
Or it could be used to keep some old duffers off the streets while they play with big hunks of spinning metal.
I LIKE it!

Does this engine use air-blast injection or solid injection? Personally I didn't know that Diesel had a design for a two-stroke engine.
