  • Can not hear bass

  • @roelcortez100 haha. Turn it up? Unmute? I hear it aight....

  • damn this is fucken amazing, it's a good thing there aren't completely incompetent people on youtube...

  • what guitar this guy is using ?

    awful teaching btw

  • good job

  • It would be nice if he at least said the order of the frets he was playing. You can't see his picking hand.

  • you need to learn the pentatonic scale on a regular guitar first

  • stop sliding up the neck randomly

  • these videos need to SHOW you how to do them than just PLAY the damm thing showing off :(

  • @Nathanb6424 it does show you how to do it, if you already know the pentatonic scale. learn that first then you can learn the trickle down. really its just playing a scale backwards with filler. its not too hard. really easy in fact

  • great work thanks dude !

  • what

  • hears what it did when i started learning.....i taught myself

  • I'm just learning the base and this sucks

    doesnt help at all

  • somebody tell me, if you are just playing the individual notes of a scale, one by one, how do you keep the notes from turning into one big chord? I mean, how do you stop the string from reverberating after you pluck it and go on to the next note on another string?

  • @laosuwan You can try to mute the string with your idle fingers when you switch strings. The first two notes on one string won't blend because you're changing the note. Generally if you take your finger off of a fretted note but leave the finger on the string to keep it from vibrating thats good enough. Just be mindful of whether the other strings are vibrating and adjust your hands accordingly to prevent it, you'll get it in no time.

  • Gay style!!

  • all expert village lessons suck dick

  • this guy fucking sucks

  • That lesson was pretty gay

  • They're after me lucky charms! They're after me lucky charms!!!

  • thanks for the help with the pentonic scales vodeo i watched both of them are they are really great

  • this is theeeeee sexiest technique ive learned so far

  • Forget this...

Instead practice your major patterns in all kinds of different interval runs both up and down the scale.

Then come back to doing it with pentatonic, melodic minor scales etc.

  • First do the scale in diatonic 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths...... 7ths and 9ths are a little silly but good to know the harmonisation either way.

    i.e.

    3rds:

    1-3, 2-4, 3-5, 4-6, 5-7, 6-1, 7-2, 1

    4ths:

    1-4, 2-5, 3-6,.4-7, 5-1, 6-2, 7-3, 1

  • Youtube is blocking certain patterns in what I'm writting.... Lets see...

Then similar to this video do them in 3rds, 4ths, 5ths and 6ths as 3 note, 4 note, 5 note, 6 note runs where you go back to the next note each time.

    i.e.

    3rds:

    1-2-3, 2-3-4, 3-4-5, 4-5-6, 5-6-7, 6-7-1, 7-1-2, 1

  • This comment needs a bunch of filler or it's being messed with so I'll just type a bunch of random stuff here until it figures out that the content is valid and not to be messed with. Lets see how it goes now with this random crap written at the start.

    4ths

    1 2 3 4, 2 3 4 5, 3 4 5 6, 4 5 6 7, 5 6 7 1, 6 7 1 2, 7 1 2 3, 1

  • Do this for the 4 patterns of the major scale that fit the bass, then apply it to your extended neck climbing/sliding patterns as well.

  • Good stuff. Gotta keep working those scales. Loving my Fender Jazz 24 as well.

  • it aint usefull for me i thought the pentatonic scale had ontle 5 notes and he is playing like a billion

  • you dolt, the pentatonic only has 5 notes. I, II, III, V, VI. He's just using different 8ves of them. Theyre all different tones, not notes

  • oh dats usefull, so notes can have different tones dats wut dey mean when dey say octaves right, the same note but higher or lower

  • what bass is that, it looks very nice :P

  • After some investigation I found that he's playing a Hamer Cruisebass. Looks like Hamer's answer to the Fender Jazz.

  • fender baby all the way

  • Looks kinda like one, doesn't it? But the pickguard is different from a Fender Jazz; a Jazz has that metal plate behind the volume knobs, where this one doesn't.

There's gotta be hundreds of J-Bass knockoffs, not saying that a bass without "Fender" on the headstock is automatically bad though.

  • yeah, i love my fender jazz!

  • Hey Carl - Nicely done. I am sure this is very useful to lots of players!

  • the fingering' weird..

the guy doesn't even use his pinky..

  • He doesn't have to. He's using whole steps, so the middle and pinky fingers don't need to be used.

  • Hes only a whole step up.. no need for pinky

  • Oh sure. Carl is going down allright, but its not on a bass.

  • This pentatonic reminds me of Sick and destroy by Metallica XD

  • true. nevertheless, the song is called Seek and Destroy ^^

  • Oh, yeah i mean seek and destroy.... XDD

  • Comment removed

  • this guy is awesome

  • What about practice? Or songs that actually use it? Or just finger strengthening and making sure your fingers don't keep doing the same boring patterns over and over?

I'll say there are quite a few reasons to play scales. Look at Closer to the heart by rush, if you know scales it's a lot easier to learn.

  • If we didn't have scales, how would you know what notes to play when your guitar riff sections are in, lets say Am for the sake of an argument, and you need to find what fits?

  • woah u guys talk long

  • For finger picking, it is a good idea to utilize your thumb in playing, without it being considered a slap. You can use your thump as a simple down stroke on the third and fourth string, while using your pointer finger (or pointer and middle finger alternatively) to pick at strings 1 and 2. For a more advanced trick, and a little more slap/pop feel, you can use your thumb as a down stroke, followed by and up stroke using the left side of your thumb next to your nail (right hand)It takes practice

  • I play with a pick. I find that it is alot easier for me to be fast and accurate playing with one.

  • did you say tripple down

    wtf?

  • Hahaha yeah, thats what I thought he said at first but if you listen closely, he does say trickle

  • i have trouble with the right hand. i cant find a comfortable place the get levarage to pluck the strings

  • When you play bass, you dont really "pluck" the strings. I find it easiest to rest the tip of my thumb on the top of a pickup (this sort of helps to give you a sense of where your hand is so you dont lose track of which string you're playing) and use your pointer and second finger to play. Rest your playing finger on the string you want to play then sort of strum that finger up towards yourself and let it hit and rest on the next string.. Hard to explain but I hope this helps

  • thanks that was very helpfull!

  • you're more than welcome =) Good luck with your playing

  • i put mine at the end of the neck. hey do minor scale have to end on an octave

  • Yeah, some people put their thumb on the end of the neck, some on the pick-up. I find it best to put it on the pick-up because this means you're fingering almost right over the pick-up which gives a clearer sound.. But it's all up to personal choice really.

As for scales, I dunno; I'm just learning about scales myself now..

  • rest thumb on the pickup or string above the string your playig

  • the strings should not be plucked your fingers should be swiping across the strings on a bass, the only time you would pluck would be if you were popping when playing slap bass

  • thanks .. i learned a lot

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

  • I got it's I always wanted to learn how to do this. Thanks

  • Man These Vids Help Alot Thanks Now I Play Bass Better

  • yea, you technique criticizers can go fuck yourself. watch eric clapton play, then come back and talk about the importance of proper technique. keep focusing on bullshit guys, good work.

  • nn si capisce niente quello ke fai....

  • dude my thumbs all over the place for my left hand anyway, i play the strings with my right thumb. im the only one out of the people that i play bass with that uses thumb to play. i like the tips i sometimes use the pentatonic scale but never as advanced as that. im off to practice

  • he's supposed to? you make the rules?

is everyone a expert? mannyfresh, go get out your

    sears bass and shut-up

  • he has awful finger position... ur supposed to have ur thumb between ur ring and middle finger nehinf the fret board...

  • I agree with you for two reasons. His technique restricts possibilities for more advanced fingers and holding you're hand that way puts a strain on your wrist which can result in Carpel tunnel. Yes he's a good player despite his poor technique but (to others objecting) that doesn't mean he shouldn't correct it. It also means that others definitely should NOT copy his technique. Learning bad technique is very hard to unlearn later on.

  • I think he's good; I like to play easy; how can you miss him using his third finger in the 2nd fret away from the first finger? Ray Charles can see that he is using his pinky in the 3re fret from the first finger!!! Duh. Can anyone see it or is it just me?

  • How can you claim your'e giving an "advanced" bass lesson, and your'e not even using all four fingers of the left hand? Advanced player use that pinky, and if they're going to leave out a finger, they leave out the ring finger.

  • He IS using his pinky, but since the pinky is occupied in the 3rd fret from the first finger, he'll have to use his third finger in the 2nd fret away from the first finger. That makes playing music so much easier when you have one finger per fret. So he's actually quite good at it, I'd say.

  • i just got a bass guitar and i dont understand i need like brand new beginner lessons im confused!

  • haha

  • I call that a scale contour. There are lots of them. I thought this video would be playing the scale up and down in different positions... Have you made one like that? Id like to watch it if you did Thanks.

    ..and thanks for posting.

  • short, slightly helpful, thanks.

  • dude you are not playing a guitar man this is electric bass man your left hand technic its wrong remember first position you have to use your 4 fingers to play the bass man damnnnnnnnnn

    what a failure

  • why dont you make a better video

  • this guy SUCK

  • Metallica does this on Seek and Destroy.

  • a lot of metal stuff uses jazz stuff

  • For one, that's not true. Secondly, this is not jazz.

  • I don't know shit about theory but for some reason I can still play something like that. :D I play what feels good. But I guess it's about time for me to learn the scales :/ Nice video!

  • darthradar. Jazz is probably the most advanced "cool shit" on bass there is. and a lot of metal bassists (Rex Brown included) use those technique's.

besides that, all i can suggest is learning the songs of pantera and jamming along to the song then working on it from there.

  • that's supposed to be an advanced technique? that's bass basics. i think i played that exact same thing, like, 3 weeks after I started playing. I need to find someone who can show me cool shit on bass that's NOT slapping or jazz... like Rex Brown of Pantera's style. Help me out?

  • Cool little lesson I love doing stuff like that. I just wish I had been showen that years ago when I was starting out.

Is that a Hammer Slammer bass? Sounds good.

  • that was hot. I need more techniques.
