TKD is not anywhere as close to effective as BJJ in real life situations. It also is much easier to lean and farrr eaier to get a black belt in. A 11 year old in my my BJJ academy has a fricken black belt in it.

There were no time limits, judges, rounds, weight divisions, or even any mandatory gloves, cups or mouth peices. there was no standing the fighters up when they hit the ground. only real rules were no biting, eye gouging or fish hooking. There is no wrist lock. It's an incomplete omoplata entry and because its a total bitch to get the flexible shoulder of heavy Akebono down, Gracie tries for a normal bent-arm kimura but cannot get enough leverage using just his hands, so he increases leverage by turning his upper knee down to the ground (a bit like a Carni) and increases the angle on the kimura while putting all of his upper body weight behind it. By the time Akebono taps out, it almost starts to look like a reverse arm bar!

At first it looked like he was going for the Gogoplata in my opinion only to push his monstrous head and shoulders out of the way in order to snatch the arm in a triangle and kimura it. Anyone can just knock someone's head into concrete, but fighting a guy like Royce, he's never gonna have a chance in most cases since he's trained in Jujutsu. Size doesn't matter so much when you're on the ground because weight evens out. It's all about manipulation and being smart, not power and size, although it does have a factor in fighting as well. Put this in the street, Gracie wins again.

i don't understand what Sumo's end game is. They don't punch, they don't pin, they don't submit. By Sumo rules, victory comes from pushing your opponent out of the ring or forcing him to touch the ground. There's nothing beyond that. This really is a stupid match.

Likewise, mma fighters don't have the skills or strategies to compete in sumo and consequentially have no chance in the dohyō. This match was totally unfair for Akebono and if Gracie had any honor he would fight Akebono a second time with sumo rules. Also, i'm not Brazilian.

The gracies not only invented brazilian jiujitsu, but kick started mma. Keep in mind that the U.F.C. today isnt what it was when first created. There were no time limits, judges, rounds, weight divisions, or even any mandatory gloves, cups or mouth peices. there was no standing the fighters up when they hit the ground. only real rules were no biting, eye gouging or fish hooking. If any of you are willing to fight under THOSE rules and think Gracie Jiujitsu is trash, Ill be happy to contact...

@mikem376 It's the Pride organization in Japan. They always had special fights. They also catered to Royce Gracie all the time and went by his rules since he pretty much kick-started and created MMA, and the Japanese believe highly in respect. Put it this way: Royce's heart isn't in MMA, but in self-defense. He's out to prove you can be small and beat guys hundreds of pounds more than you, or win against different styles. His only goal; to showcase Jujutsu. He's a true martial artist and fighter

There is no wrist lock. It's an incomplete omoplata entry and because its a total bitch to get the flexible shoulder of heavy Akebono down, Gracie tries for a normal bent-arm kimura but cannot get enough leverage using just his hands, so he increases leverage by turning his upper knee down to the ground (a bit like a Carni) and increases the angle on the kimura while putting all of his upper body weight behind it. By the time Akebono taps out, it almost starts to look like a reverse arm bar!

At first it looked like he was going for the Gogoplata in my opinion only to push his monstrous head and shoulders out of the way in order to snatch the arm in a triangle and kimura it. Either way, it was extremely innovative and intelligent. That's what fighting is all about.

@yellowmon123 MMA is the closest thing to no rules fighting. It's the purest form of it in sport. Anyone can just knock someone's head into concrete, but fighting a guy like Royce, he's never gonna have a chance in most cases since he's trained in Jujutsu. Size doesn't matter so much when you're on the ground because weight evens out. It's all about manipulation and being smart, not power and size, although it does have a factor in fighting as well. Put this in the street, Gracie wins again.
