Actually she could pack to leave forever because what she doesn’t know is that her coaches already decided that her talent isn’t enough. All the tears, the pain, the torture for nothing. But that Mang Hang only gets to know at the end of the school year.
Mang Hangs life is only about the sport. There are no toys and only a bit free time. And even then she loves to read with her best friend Ming in the Olympic book. To be a star someday, of that everybody dreams here. “I cant give up. If I want to win I have to fight, that I have learned here. Free time just isn’t much here.” Two times a year the children can go home.
Mang Hang wants to become like them, for that she has to torture herself everyday again.
After the end of training Miss xxx (don’t know her name) cares about Mang Hang’s group - twenty little girls. Relived the little ones are waiting for their shower. For most of them Miss xxx has become their second mother. The bigger kids wash the smaller ones as at home.
“I comfort them if the children cry and miss their parents too much. I calm them down if they have a nightmare.
“Food at home tastes much better. My mother always makes paprika with pork but you don’t get something that nice around here.”
Quickly back into the gym, the timetable hasn’t many breaks. Training in the morning, than school, training again in the evening. Mang Hang lives in this sport school since two years - a thousand kilometres away from her parents. Now drill defines her life. For motivation at the roof - former Xian Tao students. Today World or Olympic champions - idols.
“Mang Hang is an intelligent child. She’s very autonomous for her age.Here everyday life is very hard for her and the others, but everybody adjusts pretty quickly to this strict lifestyle.”
Mang Hang actually has grown up very sheltered at home in a harbour town, she has been even coddled - typical for China’s one child families. She doesn’t like the cantina food at all but the hard training makes hungry. Hungry she eats everything on the table as everybody else.
In the Chinese lesson Mang Hang reads texts about the Olympic Games.
“I like studying very much, I think it isn’t difficult to remember the letters. If I’m good enough to go into a foreign country as a gymnast I have to learn a foreign language.
Mang Hang is one of the bests in class. The education is very important for the young gymnasts because only a few of them can jump to the very top of gymnastics. And if they don’t make it as a gymnast they at least have a good education.
“Elite sport is brutal, not everybody can be world champion so we have to select the bests because only who can fight through this kind of training has potential to become a champion.”
Three hours of training everyday, six hours of school in class. As in the gym total discipline is the most important rule. Mang Hang and her classmates are extremely adapted to this hard regime. And the dream of gold also exists in class.
‘Now he’s going to hurt me again’, thinks Mang Hang but doesn’t show her emotions. She knows what everybody expects from her, not only the coaches, also the parents who have spend a lot of money for the future of their little daughter.
“My parents call everyday, I want them to be proud and I want to be a world champion and win a gold medal.”
Everyone is afraid of this exercise but everyday again they try to fight through or are pushed through. Also Mang Hangs coach isn’t gentle.

this is german,so i could understand it but they pretty much said one thing: sports is their whole life.... I also love sports,but I would damage my body for it,because its better to feel luck while doing it and no pain
Young children like this are not always ready to do everithing for achieving a goal just because they are children. So they need coaches help, and when they will be older they will say thank you to them. I think a work like that isnt neccesary - the one who really wants to win will pain himself without help. So it happens in other countries, and they are winning gold, too

How sad!! The (terrible) coaches made the kids cry.... even if they were only 5 or 6 they still push hard on them..Thats just sad how they treat them.
