cracking tune...remember a certain midnight trip from Devon to the Lake District, got up there knackered, and all of a sudden on the M6 at Tebay, sounds of the sixties, first track was this MAGIC
There is a very good cover of this by a band caled Smoove. Very b boy like. Both versions are tremendous. By the way i forgot to mention that i seen a chiropractor fighting with an osteopath earlier on. It was some fight.
@szmig00 To the missus " stop using your mans youtube channel" get your own, to the the main man, get yourself a password, by the way how could she dance to im a man, ? hmm ( they didnt dance in them days they just moved a little bit.
@itstwaterman Hey, she learnt how to dance from the 'main man' lol! This song gets everyone up & dancing! Had a live band (The Modest) perform this last Saturday at our local 60s Mod & Soul night, then 30 mins later spun this off of vinyl........packed dancfloor both times!! Godda love this tune!
@szmig00 sounds like a good night at the local, mighta dropped by but this bus dont go that far, great track by the way, ahh happy days, still cant see me dancing to it tho, cuuuuuuuu.
Rhythmn and Blues - Soul - was/is The Daddy of Rock. The influence was most pronounced early in the youth of rock; which, is barely 55 - 60 years old and what a radical change it was! Until the Beatles came on the scene, Soul/R&B made a lot of young white people really move, and everyone had a favorite soul artist/group. Oh yeah! Integration began before integration knew it!

thank you this is GREAT! some people like live others like studio. some like both depending on their mood. having these options is the coolest thing in the world. This is a kick ass tune! Always was. Always will be!
That low toned bass rumble, bell chime guitar notes, Pete York's stickwork, and Winwood's organ add up to one of the best openings of a rock 'n' roll song ever. There's almost something frighteningly sinister about the music, as if it's portending some earthshaking event/happening about to occur. And it does : Winwood begins to sing and announces his statement of self and purpose. The strength of this song is such it almost makes one want to bow down before the CD player whenever it's playing.
@schmui...thanks for your comment but have you any idea !!! somebody help me ..was their other number 1 ...I'm a Man only reached number 9..so I was two thirds right not bad for a bloke that has no idea hey schmui
@schmui...are you still wet behind the ears do you not understand that I made a comment saying that I favour two great monster hits from Spencer Davis which are Keep on Running and
Gimme Some Lovin' and this song I'm a Man
and in my opinion its not as good okay.....and if you must know i'm a big fan this great group and Steve Winwood after they broke up ...and there is no need for your petty insults thank you
I enjoyed both versions of this song (SDG & Chicago) as a young kid, but presently find that the SDG take on this song with its R & B feel, Steve's blue-eyed vocals and the rump shakin' bass pumping in the background are too irresistably powerful and cool for any other version.
Interesting that Burt Bacharach made a killing collecting the royalties off of Arthur Lee's rendition of his song, yet he dissed Arthur. Much as I like most of Bacharach's tunes, I'm thinking, "What an ingrate!"
