  • cracking tune...remember a certain midnight trip from Devon to the Lake District, got up there knackered, and all of a sudden on the M6 at Tebay, sounds of the sixties, first track was this MAGIC

  • I though it was a black guy voice. Jesus! thats a white man! He is a man not a pussy.

  • @FrapsYou He was a teenager too.

  • ROCK ME baby...rock me baby, alllll night Long!

  • There is a very good cover of this by a band caled Smoove. Very b boy like. Both versions are tremendous. By the way i forgot to mention that i seen a chiropractor fighting with an osteopath earlier on. It was some fight.

  • 60s RnB/Rock is the best!

  • yaaaaaay a non-live version :) even though the live version are obviously unreal as well I just really wanted to listen to the original wooooo!

  • no one human cannot get up and dance to this, hey i'm a woman and always have to dance to this

  • @szmig00 bet your a real smooth dancer.

  • @itstwaterman LOL I try my best! *note to self, tell my missus' to stop making comments on my YouTube log-in*

  • @szmig00 To the missus " stop using your mans youtube channel" get your own, to the the main man, get yourself a password, by the way how could she dance to im a man, ? hmm ( they didnt dance in them days they just moved a little bit.

  • @itstwaterman Hey, she learnt how to dance from the 'main man' lol! This song gets everyone up & dancing! Had a live band (The Modest) perform this last Saturday at our local 60s Mod & Soul night, then 30 mins later spun this off of vinyl........packed dancfloor both times!! Godda love this tune!

  • @szmig00 sounds like a good night at the local, mighta dropped by but this bus dont go that far, great track by the way, ahh happy days, still cant see me dancing to it tho, cuuuuuuuu.

  • @itstwaterman allways a good night when our club get together. Good music, good people....cant ask for much more than that!!

  • That single high note he hits on the organ is hypnotizing...

  • groovy !

  • Im feelin this white boy!

  • One of my favourite tunes, Winwood was/is a legend.

  • Good choice on the studio recording. Savage song.

  • 4 women disliked this, no offence ladies :D

  • The thinking man's "British Invasion".

  • @beachdog67 That was the thinkings mans comment about the thinking mans British invasion. i tip my hat to you sir.

  • I was too young to appreciate this when it was out, didn't 'discover' it until the vw polo ads. It is now one of my faves

  • One of the coolest tunes EVER! Winwood was 18 I think at this time. Doe anybody have a copy of a tune called "Looking Back" by SDG from about 1967?

  • Wasn't the singer something like 17 when he sang this????

  • @unsound64 Yep, Steve Winwood was 17 or 18 when he recorded this with the Spencer Davis Group

  • @unsound64 Sang and what makes it even more remarkable in my opinion: wrote it.

  • Wait, I'm confused, there are four young white guys on the cover...

  • @Spudmaster9000

Rhythmn and Blues - Soul - was/is The Daddy of Rock. The influence was most pronounced early in the youth of rock; which, is barely 55 - 60 years old and what a radical change it was! Until the Beatles came on the scene, Soul/R&B made a lot of young white people really move, and everyone had a favorite soul artist/group. Oh yeah! Integration began before integration knew it!

    'nuff said.

  • Oh the music; fabulous.

  • Before it's time.

  • N.E.R.D

  • Once saw some young fellas doing some Street Dancing to this one fine morning in early summer a couple of years ago.

They made an old woman very happy that day! ;)

    What a tune!!

  • Absolutley the best tune to come out of the 60's!!!

    Gentleman Jim Carter/radio dusc jockey

  • Superb!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Prodigy sampled this in the song Breathe

  • It's the singer -- AND the song !

  • Thank you for this wonderful original!!

  • Better be in GH

  • wait.... how can someone actually NOT like this song?!

  • Bad Azz group when i was a teenager . Play this at the Drive-in and girls melted :)))

  • I played this on the old turn table til it wore our.

  • I'm a man--- last time I checked. After all, in this bitch world, we do have to check our manhood often, don't we? Yes, I am.

  • dancin to the music, werein my leather vest with long tassles hang dwn, grt memories.

  • Fantastic!

  • Damn, this is the jam right here. I wish I found it earlier

  • Groovy, baby

  • shouldnt the lyrics be

    im a "flash" man

    yes i am

and i cant help but to love iyou so

  • This is SO sexy. Something about the very start reminds me of The Zombies....another cool band.

  • thanks for uploading it :)

  • Ithink they used this song in a gum commercial in the80's. I think it was beemans.

  • Loved this song. They'd play it at all the teen dances I went to in the 60's. Every week a church had a teen dance night and it was SO much fun!

  • That low toned bass rumble, bell chime guitar notes, Pete York's stickwork, and Winwood's organ add up to one of the best openings of a rock 'n' roll song ever. There's almost something frighteningly sinister about the music, as if it's portending some earthshaking event/happening about to occur. And it does : Winwood begins to sing and announces his statement of self and purpose. The strength of this song is such it almost makes one want to bow down before the CD player whenever it's playing.

  • Thanx for the original...I couldn't find one of Gimme Some Lovin, so this is really a nice add.

  • who sing this song frist these guys or Chicago Transit Authority? i'm to young to know (28)

  • @jeremyowens81 These guys did it first then CTA did it maybe 3 years later.

  • @nemrac76 thanks for the info

  • @jeremyowens81 Winwood was 17 years old when this was recorded.

  • my 45 starts the same i thought it was a scratch love this song

  • Love..love.... love this song... thanks for bringing back alot of great memories !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Swing, drive and syncopation. This cooks.

  • i think this is 1 of their best in my opinion

  • the mutts nuts this one ! !

    its got everything ! !

    pure 60s class ! !

  • The greatest song of all time.

  • thanx 4 uploading, this song is REALLY great, especially the organ...;)

  • Spencer Davis Group with another hit from the 60's but i'm afraid not in the class as Keep On Running and Gimme Some Lovin they were two monster hits

  • @schmui...thanks for your comment but have you any idea !!! somebody help me ..was their other number 1 ...I'm a Man only reached number 9..so I was two thirds right not bad for a bloke that has no idea hey schmui

  • @schmui...are you still wet behind the ears do you not understand that I made a comment saying that I favour two great monster hits from Spencer Davis which are Keep on Running and

Gimme Some Lovin' and this song I'm a Man

and in my opinion its not as good okay.....and if you must know i'm a big fan this great group and Steve Winwood after they broke up ...and there is no need for your petty insults thank you

  • @schmui ...but i absolutely LOVE this song! :)

  • Steve Winwood was 16 yrs old when he recorded this...

  • Thanks for the upload. Always like to hear the studio recording of my favorite songs to compare to the live version.

  • thanks

     I Cr 13:8a

  • Thanks for doing the upload!

  • Thanks for the original version. Luv it!!

  • As a Beatle Fanatic I am qualified to say..............This song and steve are f'n awesome

  • Hammond blows me away in this song along with Stevie's voice.

  • joint fire up an feel that organ====

  • that bass is sic!

  • Both versions, this and Chicago's are good. RWB

  • 100% funk and swagger.

Jimi Hendrix wanted Steve Winwood to sing for The Jimi Hendrix Experience but was scared to ask him. True story.

  • You think my Ex's will understand??

  • this song if played a bit faster sounds pretty cool

  • i personally dont lik Chicago's version, this has more of a rawness and substance 2 it, makes me wanna grow a penis and facial hair =)

  • I enjoyed both versions of this song (SDG & Chicago) as a young kid, but presently find that the SDG take on this song with its R & B feel, Steve's blue-eyed vocals and the rump shakin' bass pumping in the background are too irresistably powerful and cool for any other version.

  • agree, totally,mrbag-took me 5 years to figure out that sdg was a white group-cant beat the bass/organ intro-the song just drives

  • I have this album - belonged to my older brothers. Still play it and it still amazes me that Stevie was SEVENTEEN when he cut this monster classic!

  • Wow, man, I didn't know that!!! Crazy! This music has power.

  • what about the cut of ray charles' "Georgia on my mind"!!!!!!--- again, he was SEVENTEEN!

  • I don't understand why this comment was thumbed down?

  • listen to this song and close my eyes I am 17 again in 1970 thanks for the memories great song with Gimmie some lovin.

  • Wonderful ! I go back to my childhood !!! Thanks for that great moment !!!

    XXX Tinky :-)

  • The original version is highly appreciated!

  • One of the coolest tunes of the mid-to-late 1960's!

    A classic.

  • @altfactor Still is a cracking tune!

  • @altfactor I have to correct you, you mean mid to late 20th century.

  • thanks i dig the original recording!

  • wasn't born...

but feelin' like Austin Power in the swinging London of the 60's :-)

  • such an underrated band! if you like them check out love with arthur lee!

  • "My Little Red Book" (1966)

Interesting that Burt Bacharach made a killing collecting the royalties off of Arthur Lee's rendition of his song, yet he dissed Arthur. Much as I like most of Bacharach's tunes, I'm thinking, "What an ingrate!"

"My Little Red Book" was definitely 10 years ahead of its time.

  • Great track! Greetings to everyone from Jarrahnut in glorious Western Australia.

  • this is real music.

  • This jam is SO dope!!!! Man, if you play this in a room full of b-boys, whew...watch out, and make sure to move any obstructions. lol

  • good song from 1967

  • the original sounds clean

  • ououououou shiet so funky!

very thx for that dope dope!

  • I've heard and seen Steve Winwood perform this song live in the late 60's (I think!) in Orebro, Sweden!!! An experience bordering erotic... :)

  • this is on the advert with the dog! love it, wicked!

  • What an intense, driving beat ... I LOVE IT! Still great music, after all these years. It makes me want to get up and shake my 57-year-old ass ... thanks, I will!

  • its an awesome song. me and my bro can breakdance to this

  • nice song!

  • AWSOME

  • Thanks for this!

  • Killer intro on the bass and percussion!
