whoa whoa whoa! Hold on a second here. Science... A religion? NO! Science IS NOT a Faith! There's no scientific hierarchy that all scientists obey, there are no omnipotent avatars of science, there are no religious holidays for science, there is no dogma. Science is the study of all things that can be weighed and measured, tested and then weighed and measured again. It cannot test for things like God, that can only exist on Faith alone. Please don't tell me I need to tell you what Faith is too!
He didn't say "" he said science. That SCOTUS doesn't think that science and Secular Humanism are the same thing is evidenced by the fact that science can be taught in public schools (because science is not a religion) while Secular Humanism can not (because it is a religion).
That's leaving aside the whole question of why it's OK for the SCOTUS to create a religion.
from Wordnet on Secular Humanism - the doctrine emphasizing a person's capacity for self-realization through reason; REJECTS religion and the supernatural (emphasis added).
from Wikipedia on Science - a continuing effort to discover and increase human knowledge and understanding through disciplined research (taken from the root-word DISCIPLE, my comment)
hmm, reason and disciplined research, hmm.
SailorBarsoom, look words up before arguing nonsense. And pass that along to SCOTUS, also.
When Noah said a flood was coming, and started building an ark, people laughed at him too. I'm sure they said he was a "paranoid" religious wack job. Despite what other people thought, Noah built the ark anyway, and lo and behold! Guess what? The flood came anyway! And where did all those people go who mocked him? They wound up dead because they simply refused to listen and heed the warning. He who laughs first laughs last!
And where religionists laugh at other people's misfortunes and with their myths spread fear and despair about the future and humanity's best efforts for advancement... some people actually try to do something about the future.
Life is a constant state of evolution.
It is easier to fear chance and do nothing then to adapt, but humanity has always survived on the shoulders of scientific advancement and those brave enough to seek answers despite the uncertainty instead of clinging to faith.
Your faith is in science. My faith is in God, the one Who created Science. Faith is pretty simple. Atheists make it way to complicated, I guess because they think too much and try to figure everything out. Nobody will figure everything out. Human beings have a limited knowledge. That's how God created us so we would walk by faith and trust in our Creator, instead of trusting in what we feel and see. To an unbeliever this doesn't make sense. But God uses the foolish things to confound the wise.
Faith is belief in our ability to do good even when there are things we cannot figure out
Faith is doing our best even when we know we cannot be certain.
Science is our best effort to understand the world, and to give up on our best efforts to understand the world and simply say "God made it so" is not faith but lack of faith. It is fear of the unknown and abandonment of our responsibility to do try our best with our limited knowledge.
Faith is believing that beauty, love and goodness exists even in a world ruled by the cosmic greed of entropy and evolution indifferent to our role in it.
Faith is believing love exists in the real world, not that love needs to be magic and the real world is evil.
Faith is the confidence that something good will occur.
You do not have to be religious and count on a magical god to have faith.
You can also have faith due to reasonable understanding of how you can make the best of even the worst situations.
Faith is not something that only exists for the religious minded, and you may even claim that people tend to be religious minded because they LACK faith in their rational view of the world, and thus need to resort to a magical one.
glad God isnt about magic .. in fact, he warns against it

DNA is just DNA. There's no frog DNA, human DNA, plant DNA, etc. There's DNA that is in a frog, human, and plant. It's all the same stuff just in different organisms! These Christians are retarded.
Oh wow, I love seeing Christian fiction writers talk about shit they don't actually know anything about. Typical paranoid, delusional fantasies we've all come to expect from these kinds of Christians. Please don't procreate, and get someone to tell you what evolution is, it's embarrassing to watch you butcher every scientific point you try to make.
is humans create "unnatural" things then let GOD tell us its wrong...free will remember, either you "creationists" let us have it as GOD did or let GOD take it away from us if its so wrong...
It is prepostorous to say that as an evolutionist, evolution didn't allow for it.
Basically evolution is the art of adapting to nature by enhancing specific skills, which give you an edge over your competitors (my own definition).
It looks a bit like how the markets work.. if a sector is too specific companies can fall down hard, due to sudden changes in markets. A great example is the upcoming of the digital camera, which wiped out the old fashion dark room kind of cameras!
Adapting can go many ways. Both naturally or manually. It is all about surviving. If we would wipe out ourselves due to great advances in technology, which gives machines an edge over us.. That they are more capable of improving themselves than we are: the technological singularity.. then we we are pretty much screwed, at least the majority of the people (I won't be one of them).
"if you're christian, creation didn't allow for. if you're an evolutionist, evolution didn't allow for..."
i think he's wrong about the second part. if we were in fact to tamper with the natural order and blend species manually, then that would replace random mutation and those new organisms would then have to adapt just as like the others would have.
I have actually read ALL of Tom's books. Thank GOD for Tom and Nita and Raiders News Network. I have "The Ahriman Gate" and "Stargates" on loan to others right now and they are hooked on these fantastic revelations you are bringing forth.

That's Secular Humanism, not science.
And isn't it funny that the SCOTUS did what Congress can not do: they established a religion, they named it, and they made laws about it.

Wow, both definitions use the word "reason." I guess you got me.
@_@
Look, a Druid may worship trees, but that doesn't make forestry a religion.
A Secular Humanist may believe that science offers our best chance at understanding the world, but that doesn't make science itself a religion.
A Christian may use bread and wine for Communion services, but that doesn't make Mrs. Baird or Gallo saints.
Maybe you should stop making these mighty leaps.
OMG, both definitions use the word "reason"!!!

Another misconception religionists use a lot. Talking about "unnatural" things.
Unnatural as a word in itself is an oxymoron, as everything exists in nature and thus nothing can really ever be unnatural.
