Your slow involute hips cradle the eternal synonym for God......many an idle dream is looking for a home of sleep like yours to happen in.......prayer is humbleness, I cannot be humble with the wealth of you beside me. I first heard this album by Mr. Prysock in 1968, when I was in the Navy. I became so enamored, I brought the book by Walter Benton. It's pure genius how Mr. Prysock put the entries to music. To be able to describe a woman and the effect she has upon you became a dream come true.
This album taught me that there was more to women that just curves and tatas. There is a sensuality expressed here which actually made me appreciate all women more. It also encouraged me to begin writing about women.
Whether or not you like Jazz, this song is lyrically exquisite! Prysocks's vocals do it justice unlike anyone else could. Who could (any of) you imagine doing this as well? Eckstine, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Luther, Barry White, Marvin, R. Kelly? No! None of 'em. Lou Rawls, Big Daddy Kane? Nope! This song and this album are superb. Few records can make me "see" the story as well as this one. My thanks to Stephan1 for uploading this gem; to Mr. Prysock and Walter Benton for their great art.
I remember a young lady from college days. We would listen to this all the time and we would memorize the words and speak them to each other....Smooch, where are you dear? D Mc
When my parents passed away I got their record collection. While in my possession some of them got wet when the sewer backed up. I ran across an album by Arthur Prysock and wanted to hear the sound of his voice...VERY NICE!!! I want to own more of his songs. Thank you for this one!!
Yes, thank you for putting this on Youtube. This album and this song are .......?..........exquisite!! I love this. when my mothe and my younger sister told me of this , I thought, WTF? But one listen, ONE, I was won. For life.
A gentleman played this wonderful piece for me when I was 25 years old. I am almost 60 now. It is still one of the most beautiful expressions of senuality I have ever heard. I feel sorry for young women today, as they will never hear a man decribe the essence of their beauty and sexuality in this way. HOW VERY SAD! I still embrace how beautiful and desired I felt at that moment. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH what memories!!!
I first heard this in 1971 when I was 21. I thought it was the most sensual sexy thing I'd ever heard. I had a scratched up LP for years and about 15 yrs. ago I located a fresh copy. I have since found it on cd. If you get online and check out some of the jazz record sites you may be able to locate a copy. I played this album for a number of special ladies over the years, and they were MOVED..........
I first heard "You Did Not Come" on late-nite Woo-Woo, you know Quiet Storm or whatEVA. I didn't even know it was from an entire book, or even on wax. I shook it off, and it just kept hittin' me again and again since '83!! I'm glad it did, and Props to YOU sir for posting. QUESTION: who tha HELL didn't like it (besides Dominica, that is!!)..?
Thank you for uploading this track. I have this album on vinyl and don't have a turntable right now - used to listen to this entire album for hours at a time. Listening to the whole thing is a straight trip.
This was a class assignment from my HS English Teacher, Miss Bello in 1972. I was a Senior. We had to put our heads down on our desks and listen to "This is My Beloved" and interpret what we heard. Heady stuff for a 17 year old. I still listen to this and so do my adult children. And required listening for every boyfriend I ever had! Thanks for posting.
My mother owned this album, when I first heard it I was 16, and instantly fell in love with it destined to love it forever....indescribable romance and sex appeal. First class performer and first class lovers album classic!
* Between 1968-1970 I was stationed in Germany...in the Army , as a matter of fact! There is where I first heard this, "beautiful music of Love" ! My Beloved! I have the album......"But, she did not come" ! That's my line, til this day! Ciao!
I love this album. I fondly call it "Arthur's Rap."
Thanks for posting this song.
The entire album tells a whole story. This song is around the middle of the action. The album is based on the memoirs of an American solider, overseas, during WWII.
I actually own this album - on vinyl - original purchase - 1970 - can't listen to it right now because I don't have a turntable.
I choose to live in the present and rarely listen to music from the past. Tonight I too asked God to please let me remember something from that album so that I could look it up. He answered right away. I once owned the book and the album. Thank you for putting it out there.
I have been trying to remember the name of this album, the artist, that performed, for YEARS! Tonight I sat down in front of this computer and was determined to REMEMBER!! I prayed to GOD to help me, and guess what? He answered my PRAYER. I have loved this album all of my life, and I THANK U, I THANK U, I THANKU!!!!!
Arthur Prysock ... could anyone write, phrase and arrange with any more of an exquisite touch than he? I first heard Arthur at 16 and now, 35 years later, just a touch of that voice and understated tenor sax brings back a world long lost. Still amazing!
I have this on vinyl and it's timeless. Thanx for the post.

Living in the present doesn't mean leaving behind the great lessons of the past, otherwise we condemn ourselves to repeat past mistakes.
If it was true then, it's true now.:)
