  • rofl wtf is this shit

  • @vidic245 It's called music.

  • sparta....such a great gig.....jim ward...still alive....congratulaitions to your new bar,

  • Welcome back Sparta!! Saw them for the 3rd time last night in Hell Paso, Tx! Great show!!!!

  • He should go solo.

  • @2010collapse He did...

  • Comment removed

  • LYRICS PLEASE....I CANT FIND THIS SONG....

  • Sparta rocks!!! check out supremotears!

  • the 19 people who disliked this died against the spartans in the movie 300.

  • Paul is an underrated musician.

  • I can't listen to any Sparta song without thinking of Hourglass

  • @Redeemedsinner17 is hourglass a band? can you send me a link to one of their better songs IF they are a band?

    peace

  • @JesusgavemeHolySpiri It's a song by at the drive-in (let the hate swarm in >> I've mentioned at the drive-in) in it Jim's the lead singer

Look it up it shouldn't be hard to find ^^ I thik you'll like what you see

  • it is very good ..i like it ...this song is fucking beautiful for me ...¡¡¡

  • I miss you Sparta....love you JIM! I refuse to choose between Sparta and Mars Volta! :P love this song tho.

  • @ShinyHeartDiary when you refuse to choose: at the drive-in

  • @thedespisedicon love them too! always have.

  • i have that shirt!

  • This version is a lot better. Gives me tears to my eyes!

  • I've heard this version for years now, and i still get chills every time i hear it

  • THIS IS GREAT MUSIC

  • My musical porn!

  • Amazing stuff...

  • Cedric's and Jim's voices remind me of each other and I think of Mars Volta and Sparta as two parts of the same thing....(and they kind of are, retrospectively :P ) <3 ATDI Mars Volta and Sparta!

  • I saw Sparta 2 years ago in South Dakota of all places and I felt pretty sad knowing not many people know of this amazing band. It was a small little gig of literally about 50... people. Most of which didn't really know of the band and were ignorant 14 yr olds smoking in the back. I was front row cheering my ass off man. These guys are awesome live. Really wish they were back together : /

  • Does anyone has hte guitar's tab of both guitars? (guitar pro of other files)

I forgot to say I really like this song ;D

  • Sparta are amazing, and this is a good version but they're playing those accoustic guitars as if they're playing hardcore songs, it sounds twangy :/

  • another great band that will go down as a blip in musical history. It kind of the poetic end of an era. From 1999 threw 07ish we saw the rise and fall of POP punk, HARD CORE, EMO, and all the other sub in-between-er's. Its like the music industry used em up and threw them away. That or they where all partied out from year after year warped touring.

  • @slowdive3030 hardcore was dead in the mid 80s. not 1999, that's a little late

  • Awesome.

It disappoints me that only 299 people have liked this!!

  • taylor fuckyou .... go back to listening to jack jonhson or where ever the fuck you came from

  • @mna2012 i like plenty of singers who have rougher/stranger voices/have bad technique (i.e. john linnell, jeff mangum, doseone, sean bonette, claudio sanchez, chino moreno), but i just don't like jim ward because i think his vocal style sounds bad. his technique also sucks, but technique isn't as important to me as emotion or passion. i don't think jim really has either

  • this is one of the only sparta songs i'm familiar with. i'm definitely not a fan of this type of music generally, but i can admit that this is a pretty good performance

one of the main reasons i say that is because the wiretap scars version of this song is complete garbage. it's over-produced and emotionless

this performance is a lot more raw and if jim ward, who isn't a very good singer to be honest, is going to make music and sing he should stick to a raw sound because it suits him more

  • @taylorbortnerathing

Jim Ward has an amazing voice, what a you smoking, go listen to your auto-tuned singers that have true no emotion and make music only for media attention and nothing from the heart

  • @Spike2933 the funny thing is, if you listen to the recording of this song from the record "wiretap scars", it actually has a lot of auto-tune/pitch correction and no emotion. that's why i said this is a surprisingly good performance because of how raw and intense it is. why don't you stop being such an idiot

  • zero bala

  • 19 people have brain/ear damage.

  • it's the first time I see this band and must say they are great!

  • come back sparta!!!! if you don't play then i will.

  • Please, this is really important. Written by Jim Ward, extracted from Sleepercar's website:

"our trailer was stolen in san antonio saturday morning and we lost a huge amount of gear. would everyone please keep an eye out for our stuff and if you see it please let us know- "

Check out his website for more details. I'm posting these message on many Sparta and Sleepercar videos to help him as much as we can.

  • WORD --v

  • sooo did they break-up? or are they on hiatus?

  • @TheWolfcreek102 Hiatus, but they've been on hiatus for forever though....

  • 70% - Jim's Guitar

    13% - Paul's Guitar

    why did they put that?

  • @raulfist Also.... where's the other 17%???

  • @raulfist That's the discount price they got.

    Nah actually no idea lol.

  • @raulfist Jim plays more of the guitar than paul

  • I agree, they worked as one before but that changed, the one thing is that they are all great artists.that won't ever change,no matter what path they take. i love atdi, sparta, mars volta, dios kilos, and it will go on,what ever makes them happy i will hear an choose to support~God Bless~

  • I'm gonna be the dick-die-hard-ATDI-fan here and be honest. I don't think either band formed in the seperation are as good as ATDI was. Don't get me wrong, I like both the mars volta and sparta, but ATDI was a truly beautiful culmination.

  • Just fucking lovely.

  • also the people in the band knowing more about music than me or you doesn't make their music better. it just means they have more tricks up their sleeve. what would make them genius is if they used all their musical talent and knowledge in a certain way to create a great song. if they know every scale on earth and have listened to every song or piece ever composed, they can still suck at making music

  • tocan de huevos!!!! vengan a mexico !!! me encanta la de crawl porfavor si? si? ojala me puedan contestar los de esparta

  • jim ward's voice kind of annoys me, but im starting to like sparta a little more regardless. i kind of realized while listening to mercel's percussion on the mars volta song "goliath" that a lot of mars volta is random noise, so i dont like them as much as i used to, except octahedron is a fucking masterpiece.

  • @canthinkverywell i know you calling it a masterpiece is subjective since you didn't write an essay explaining why it's a masterpiece, but after a few listens, i can't agree with you. the last thing they did that made me go "shit yeah!" was the song "goliath"

  • @Green057 no man, these things r masterpieces becuz they take so much more work and planning. i play drums, guitar, bass, and piano, and i've played sparta, at the drive-in, and mars volta songs, not only r mars volta songs typically the most difficult to play, but when thinking abt the writing process it seems next to impossible to write. and not like "i gotta be hih to write that," u have to be genius to write it, bands like sparta are simple entertainment. its pleasent to the ear, not amazing

  • @canthinkverywell don't commit the musical fallacy where you assume that a piece being difficult to play or write makes it genius. i agree with their weird time signatures that it's hard to write, but to the untrained ear, it might not be super impressive. the difficulty level in creating the song means you should respect them as musicians, but it doesn't necessarily make the art itself great. if Van Gogh paints a shitty painting that only a genius could paint, it's still a shitty painting

  • @Green057 that makes a lot of sense actually. to compare it to the beatles, i think paul and ringo are the simpler, more pop accessible, and to most better sounding musicians, but i have more respect for john lennon and george harrison because they impress me more. but the thing is, if you have good hearing, and you can understand all the craziness that is the average mars volta song, they are actually very good for simple entertainment also, not just an impressive shitty painting.

  • @canthinkverywell Yes, that does make sense, and I agree. I didn't mean that one can't have an opinion on the matter, or that you have to like all three. I mean, if I had to choose only one of the three to listen to for the rest of my life, I might pick TMV over ATDI, but if one's only reason for disliking Sparta is because they like The Mars Volta or vice versa, then that is stupid reasoning and that is what annoys me.

  • @acbbj I mean, if that logic were sound, then we could only listen to 1 band because all the rest would be "gay." It's kind of like the people who look at you funny when you say you enjoy the Stones AND the Beatles, and think you can only pick one. Those people are asses. Of course, I sound like an ass saying "You can have opinion as long as it's not this," but I will recognize my assness and hope that counts for something as I make a TMV, ATDI, Sparta playlist and love it.

  • @acbbj yup. my brother hates all jim ward stuff cuz he thinks "jim's not on enough dope to make good music"

  • why did they have to break up :(

  • @luisrochin artistic differences, you'd understand if you yourself were in a band who didn't quite agree

if bands stayed together, John Lennon wouldn't have been so brave as to write the songs he did

  • Actually I'm in a band here in my hometown and I do understand what you mean... still sad though

  • @MikroBadass i have to disagree with artistic differences being good reasons to quite bands. im in 3 bands right now, and i write kind of solo stuff to. the point of solo stuff is to just express myself ya know, do everything i want to do myself. but i like having people in my bands who like totally different stuff than i do, then we compromise and instead of being a zerox copy of 1 band, we become something unique because we're mixing our different influences.

  • @luisrochin They are back together I believe... Working on a new album.

  • unclerayray....... if there is any?!?!?! oh wow man,,,,, you tube the crap out atdi, sparta and mars volta!! YOU WILL BE AN INSTANT FAN OF ALL 3!!!!

  • @ray1corr 2/3...

  • nice, i would like to hear more! I`m still missing

    at the drive in;(

  • Jim Ward co-founded ATDI and he, Paul Hinojos and Tony Hajjar all played in it together with Omar Rodriguez Lopez and Cedric Bixler Zavala. When ATDI broke up the members formed two seperate bands, Sparta & The Mars Volta.

  • First of all, really awsome effort on the vocals live :-) song is really sad though. I've heard that this is one of the songs written when Jim, aka Sparta's front man when his brother died. after reading the lyrics i can see how my friend got that idea. correct me if I'm wrong..???

  • I reckon it can't be possible, because Wiretap Scars was released on August 2002 and Jeremy Ward died on May 2003. So I think English Wikipedia's information about the album is also wrong.

  • I've opened my ears soo much to this band recently . this version adds to my appreciation . ; - )

  • This is the best version I've ever heard of this. Thank you for posting it whoever did.

  • I miss Sparta!!!

  • @ashleyjaecox they're back together!

  • I never gave sparta a chance after i went TMV way, i didnt diss them but i too grew out of constant punky energetic music. These accoustic performances however are incredibly emotional driven almost Jeff Buckly esque. Very good

  • El Paso's best !!!

  • God I love Jim Ward's voice

  • and the crime scene revistits me....

  • THIS IS THE 1ST TIME I EVER HEARD OF THIS BAND

    they're great

THIS SONG IS FVCKIN RAD+SAD AT THE SAME TIME

  • make sure to listen to cataract, air and tensioning

  • I love this band...Perfect song... <3

    My band number ONE!

  • Una de mis canciones favoritas, creo que es parte del soundtrack de mi vida !!!!!!!!!!

  • lame is a strong word now that i had 22 minutes to thnk about it. they are super talented, they just need to make their music not be as weird as possible, silly boys

  • What are the percentages on their guitars?

    Excellent song, btw/

  • I like bands that arent on the radio getting worn out daily. Paw, Local H, Sparta, Evans Blue, are a small sample of them mate.

  • Sparta invokes so much hate in people. It's crazy.

  • Very beatiful Collapse version. Jimmy has an awesome voice live too, even better than studio version!

  • This is the greatest song of all time by the greatest band of all time. Such a shame Paul left and they're on "haitus." The childish comments on here are a joke.

  • Nice song!

  • lol wow, first its the acoustic version, and second the lyrics dont sound anything like some mainstream band so you guys should probably chill the fuck out, sparta is more rock anyways they arent trying to be mars volta so uh...you should probably learn the difference between music styles if your going to insult them,

  • THIS IS MADNESS!

  • NO, THIS IS SPARTA!

I'm sorry i just had to.

  • no this is gay...

  • Well that is a matter of opinion.

  • really great bands..

  • Still one of my favorite bands.

  • Jesus Christ!! This sounds sooo good

  • I think Sparta have a good music they are well oriented, but thats my opinion.

  • nooombre guey Fuck off, Cedric and Omar????? (pussy little fucks), the perfect shepherds for humans, baaah, baah so I guess there humherds, and like a good little sheep you follow =) Jim Rocks (at least he's still real)

  • Couldn't agree more after seeing that sheep clip.

However, 'de-loused' is still one of my favourite albums and 'tetragrammaton' is still in my top 3 songs but yeah I agree, after seeing that sheep clip.

  • I really really enjoy listening them...

  • his voiceis still amazing, was better in atd-i,

  • outstanding, real thing

  • Much diffrent than ATD-I and the Mars Volta, but decent. I always like ATD-I because they put themselves out their artistically, I'm not sure if Sparta is still doing that.

  • Why in the hell does everyone think that we have to put Sparta and The Mars Volta in some retarded competition with each other? I loved them all when they were together and I love them all when they are split up. Why can't we just see that we got TWO great bands from the break-up of ATDI? Why does one have to suck because we like the other? I know it will always be that way, but it pisses me off.

  • that needed to be said, thanks

  • when youre right youre right

  • amen

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • @acbbj i kinda think its worth arguing which 1 is more impressive and stuff like that, but none of them suck, and i see ur point. like i argue abt this shit myself, the ppl i argue w/ just dont get that im not saying "tmv is amazing, sparta sucks" im more trying to say "they're all entertaining, tmv is just more impressive becuz ppl jst dont write or play shit like that." does that make sense?

  • @acbbj out of everything thats happened, id have to say ATDI was only headed in the direction of spiltting up and making two amazing bands, theyre just that good.

  • Up until now I've nerver listened to Sparta. I've always just listened to The Mars Volta and At The Drive-In. I've meant to listen to Sparta but I've just never gotten around to it. Now that I have, I'm glad that I did give them a listen. They're good and quite different than Mars Volta. Just as good too.

  • no one ever listens to me when i say that.

  • Yeah, I had heard about them a lot, but never gave em' a listen. Then a few months I saw Cut your Ribbon in the related video tabs for a ATDI song and thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • Yea. They're just as good as both those bands. I actually think that At The Drive In can get annoying after awhile. I'll listen to them, but not for too long or else I get bored with them. But this isn't annoying at all.

  • Beautiful. I wanna hear more acoustic Sparta!

  • This is my favorite sparta song. In fact, my favorite song period. I love's Jim's voice. It's a shame paul is not with the band anymore. I hope the member's of Sparta realize how much their music is appreciated...

  • for those interested I have mp3's of this and air from the same set. send me a message if your interested and Ill megaupload them when I get the chance.

  • they both come from the same band, and they are both good... quit arguing about it and enjoy the music!!!!

  • compare cedrics vocals to jim's and there is no contest jim is much better. i hate to add to the who is better argument that is attached to the ass of any video involving atdi, sparta or tmv like a cancer but i cant get past cedrics shitty vocals. given de-loused was an epic album still sparta ftw.

  • whaat? thats ridiculous, cedrics voice is amazing, you obviously have no idea what your talking about, cedrics octave range is amazing whereas jim can only sing in one tone or scream.

  • listen to their performance of wax simulacara on letterman, his only octave range is shitty. it sounds like someone is strangling britney spears. is high pitched singing sounds crappy, just my opinion.

  • yeh i know what you mean but then watch "at the drive-in - pattern against user live on channel v" his voice is perfect. jim couldnt sing any of the mars volta songs pitch perfect, cedric evidently can, one bad performance doesnt justify someones ability.

  • you don't know shit

i dont want to add to this gay argument but i feel compelled to correct you

cedric gets EXHAUSTED doing his stage antics and his voice gets fucked up. at first i wasnt sure about that theory, but after watching performances of their softer songs like asilos magdalena being sung perfectly, i had proof enough that the culprit was cedric's stage presence. of course, if he didnt do that they wouldnt be such a great live experience

  • ...the mars volta are way better...

  • Dude, you are freaking stupid as hell. If you like The Mars Volta then go comment on one of their videos. This is sparta, not The Mars Volta WE DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK. Prick.

  • Really, you just proved that you're intelligence level might be falling into the retarded range. Also, i never said Mars Volta is better i just get pissed when people comment on sparta saying they are better when it is just a matter of opinion. Go die in a fire asshole.

  • Oh wow, you're colorful vocabulary is making me puke. If you weren't so ignorant and retarted then maybe this conversation wouldn't be happening. There can be no fact to where a band is better than another band, shows how smart you are. This isn't alternative by the way and Third Eye Blind isn't alternative. I'll give you some examples of alternative, Tool, Nirvana, Pearl Jam etc. I think you should take you're own advice and try and sound like a human not a dumbass.

  • For the record i don't believe this to be gay. I think it is true music because it isn't mainstream bull shit. I listen to all kinds of music not just sparta so i do in fact know what real music is.

  • Hell yea man.

  • 70%?

  • Sparta is awesome. I really hope they come out with a fourth album. Sleepercar is great..but Sparta is epic.

Does anyone know where you can find an mp3 version of this song?

  • just type in google "convert youtube to mp3" click on any of the first sites and follow instructions, its easy as fuck. I did that to a lot of youtube songs that are not on cd

  • when i use that i get a fuckin pop up that doesnt go away so i cant save it anywhere else

  • which website are you using? If shit doesn't work, pm me and i'll upload it for you

  • never mind i got it now lol, i used a different site

  • lol me ? ohweeh xD thx

sparta is cool nice song nice live performance

  • Absolute perfectness of a human being.

  • ive bought this cd three times

because everytime i get it someone messes it upp,

and i dotn ever regret having to rebuy it thanks to this song and Glass house tarot.

    this band is samazingg

  • is this live version on cd??? if so where can i get it!!!?

  • its from their cd wiretrap scars

  • This is blasphemy!

    This is madness!

  • what are the percentages on his guitar for???

  • yeah, his voice is what keeps me listening, he sounds like a young perry ferrell.

  • probably the most atmospheric voice i've ever heard

  • completely amazing... agreed. best song ive heard by sparta... thank you for keeping the deepness of at the drive in, sparta!

  • is Jim Ward welsh? because his biography says hes' from Texas but i feel like ive seen him wear Wales's flag maybe in an ATDI photo..and he definitely has a non-american tinge to his accent

  • yeah he is welsh but i think he was raised in texas

  • o ok. cool
