  • Flexibility and core strength are HUGE contributors in your jumping ability so stretch daily and do your crunches as well

  • im trying to lose 15 to 20 more to get tht lift to get over the rim better to dunk it like i want to and get my core and legs more stronger...right now im putting down weak dunks at 6'0 204 ibs with a 7'11 reach i need to lose more wieght to catch way more air to do dunks i imagine doing

  • i had a personal trainer just cuz i wanted to dunk. in the begining i could touch the net.... now 3 months later i can touch the top of the square! box jumps, lunges, calf raises, sprints, kettle bells, etc.

  • @Kryptonitee24 do calf raises every other day, squats with weight, a lot of sprints, lunges , plyometric push ups, pull up until failure, squat jump with a lot of intensity, work on your jumping form every day and you will see a lot of results, and dont forget to stretch daily

  • If youre already strong for your bodyweight though really all you need is plyos though.. but if youre an average athlete who all you ever did was play basketball, most likely you can increase your strength substantially through weight training and youre going to benefit because if all you do is playing sports all youve been doing is basic forms of plyos anyways

  • I agree to an extent, if all you do is squat for 2 months youre gonna get stronger but heavy as well and probably not as loose as fast, youre actually most likely gonna jump lower and be heavier but after those 2 months play for a while in this case basketball and youre gonna lose all that excess fat and actually get some plyo work in and youre gonna be flying, a better way to do it is work out your legs for 2 weeks to a month with squating etc then start doing plyos and only squating once /week

  • One good exercise is that take a barbell and put it like you doing a squat and add a whole bunch of wieght there and hop as high as you can off the floor. My boss used to do that his vertical got thru the roof. But don't do it if you dont wanna fuck up you back

  • I did HIIT, and did High jumps and Squat jumps on my cut and went from a 22 inch verticle to 28 in 3 months :)

  • @Whurrsmuhcash I do plyometrics and I will wear ankle weights or a weighted vest when I'm working out to increase resistance but I wouldn't recommend wearing anything to heavy because you still need to be light.

    because i'm 6'10, 250 and white with a reasonable dunking ability, and i even played a little professional ball in Australia. Olympic lifts, deadlifts and squats all help IMMENSELY with jumping ability. It won't make a short dude instantly windmill, but it did more for me then plyo did. gotta work that posterior chain, not just plyo

  • @AtoZyzzyva how do you know that's not what i call reasonable? i could easily dunk in games...but i'm not blake griffin. keep in mind with that kinda height/weight. physics comes into play. dudes around 6ft with 40" verticles in the nba are a dime a dozen, but almost no big guys can do it...see how that works? the point i'm trying to make is, if u want leaping ability, then u better get your ass in the gym doing olympic style lifts, and combine that with some plyo.

  • power cleans are amazing for overall strength and explosiveness, they really help with vertical too.

  • I used to use a program called Air Alert 2 when i was in High School. It had alot of jumping exercises and i was jumping out the fucking building with that shit. I was dunking way above the rim at 16 years old at 5" 9. then when i turned 17, one day at a brooklyn park i went up for an alley oop dunk and caught the front rim and my back was SNAPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!! the fuck up. never been able to jump the same since.

  • Your vertical leap and running speed is determined by genetics.Don't buy into all the gimmicks out there. I've seen dudes train their ass off to increase their vertical leap and speed with little results. But I've seen guys able to jump out of the gym with little to no training. Sadly to say, you either have it or you don't..

  • @NikeSBNikka23 I don't understand, why do you want a crazy verticle if you're not going to be using it atleast 3 times a week? Is it for sports? Why would you want to get good at something you won't use? In terms of fitness you should always be looking to improve yourself in all areas anyway. There's never a situation where a verticle that's higher than what you want will give u a disadvantage. There's a video of LeBron getting his chin over the rim, he doesn't do that every game but it helps.
