  • I have had this camera for two years now and at first i was really happy with it, but the output quality of the video is pretty poor and i have got it all on the best settings.

the camera just isn't worth the money these days.

  • @LewisSomerville You're right. Although i will say that i have got some great results out of mine over the years

  • @SeanWrenn

I'm the same, but im going to sell up my Canon Xm2 and buy a Canon 60D (DSLR) as its a cheap alternative that provides excellent results!

And it leaves you with a great 18 megapixel stills camera.

  • i got the same camera

but i don't know how to get the video footage from the camera to my computer can you tell me the programs and equipment needed

I'm running windows vista on my machine if that makes a difference

  • There is a firewire connection in the back of the camera (where you pull the flap off and there is several other connections) It's a mini firewire connection. You'll need a firewire connection on your computer too though. When you hook the camera up to the PC for the first time switch it to PLAY mode and the PC should recognize it

  • ok thank you i'll give it a try

cause i was reading the manual and all it was giving me was instructions for photos

  • Im looking at getting an XM2 for my music video business. It's either going to be the XM2 or the DVX100. Ive found the dvx100 to be a great little camera, with really clear and sharp colours. How do the 2 compare with each other?

  • I'm not totally familiar with the dvx100, but i gave a quick look at the specs and it seems very good. If you want to see what the XM2 looks like when it's upscaled to 720p search "Lough Gur - Frozen Over (Part 2)" in my uploads. For an aging camera the XM2 still has a lot of power

  • No problems uploading XM-2 footage to playback as 720p using either iMovie or Final Cut Pro/Express. Not true HD of course but it's better than the usual options. I keep thinking of selling my XM-2 to get a HD cam, then I think... No! I might just get a little Sanyo X-Acti in the meantime.

  • @alanstarkie2001 just stick with this camera. if you get a sanyo xacti you will lose out on all the great features on this camera

  • I agree - I was thinking of getting an X-Acti, since they are so cheap, just for general use & I'll be keeping the Canon I think :)

  • Have you tried downloading drivers for the camera of canons website?

As far as i remember when i connected mine to vista first it just discovered it. Check the website maybe?

  • this camcorder saves as AVI?

  • well when you transfer it from the tape to your PC it's in AVI format, so yea

  • just bought one, its on the way.

  • yeah, it's old footage, but yeah, canon xm2

  • You shot this footage using canon xm2? No way!

This footage beats most of the so-called HD camcorders footages in youtube.

How did you manage to upload clear footage in youtube? Please share you secret.

Ps, I am trying to purchase the camcorder.

  • this video is the AVI file type direct from the miniDV tape

I've used Ulead VideoSuite 9 to convert XM2 videos in to HD using the WMV HD file type too.

Check out the "stubble test" video in my profile

  • Another option is to use iMovie. Make the movie as normal (using 16:9 mode) and share as HD. Simples.

  • These so called HD camcorders u see on youtube can in no way live up to Canon XM2 standards, because Canon xm2 is a semi pro videocamera with 3CCD and these HD Camcorders has only 1CCD

    I hope this helped :D

  • it really is an awesome camera

  • indeed ! :)

  • shot in CANON XM2?!
