first time i heard this story was in the 2nd grade and it has scared me since. Nothing real dramatica about it. very simple. short, sweet, simple, and down right creepy!
I really wish they would make this book into a movie (with a good director of course). It's just such a great story that so many people don't know about.
Wow, I didn't know that this video was even still in existence! I'm the voice in this movie and did a lot of the illustrations/animations. I'm so glad that I have a copy of this thing now, because I misplaced the original.
Oh, and the reason that we took license with the story is 1) its a folktale and that is encouraged and 2) we had a 5 minute time limit.
If he had just finished it with the creature killing the man and getting the tail back the hard way, this would be much better than the version I always read where the creature is inside the house in the corner when he killed it, has about 3 dogs that he sends out to chase the thing away whenever it calls, always coming back with one dog less until they're gone, and, of course, the thing does what I said it should ahve done in this one.

I have a book full of African American folktales called "The People Could Fly", this story called "The Peculiar Such Thing" being one of them, & when I was little my sister would read them to me. Being older she loved to scare me & did so with this story sometimes, though it was a little different from this telling of it. I got her nickname for me from it -my name is Taylour + it calls out tailypo = Tayliepoe! Brings back good & not so good memories! Haha! Very nice job! : )

the old man was sure he heard somthing an wistled at his dogs COME ON BOYS GO GET IT! his dogs scrambled out the door howling and barking and the old man listened for a while and heard nothing of the dogs for a while so he went back to sleepad woke up to the eerie noise again but this time it was closer taaaily po?oh taaaily po i want my taaaily po the man grabbed for his shotgunbut it wasnt there it was down by his fire place just the then he heard th door being scratched and the creak open
then paws loping up the stairs he was almost sure it was his dogs untill he heard the noise this time it was too close Taaaily po Taaaily po ....then silence the man was relieved until he sau a small furry pw latch its self to the foot of his bedthen another paw then a cat like face pulled its self to the mans vision I WANT MY TAILY PO AND IIIIM GOOONA GET IT!
You did way better job then the guy with the glasses where did he get that life vest thing anyway? and the mans suppose to have three dogs..the story may not have been the exact one I heard but I still liked it none the less great job
