  • Plastic bags are evil

  • DO fuse one or two new layers at a time.

DON'T try to fuse all 8 layers at once, or the middle layers will have incomplete adhesion.

  • can this be made into a hard plastic

  • Thumbs up of your at Arden school

  • thumbs up if you had to do this for home work.

  • What temp is your iron on? I tried this with Target bags, and it didn't turn out very well. I guess I have to keep practicing as you said.

  • @dorothydanridge Set the iron between polyester and rayon

  • FOR YOUR HELTH!

  • You are truly revolutionary !!! :D!! i love it!, im on my second year of my fashion course and on wednesday 28th im going to start making a dress out of tesco plastic carrier bags. Its also kind of ironic because i work in that supermarket too ^.^ which is why i chose tesco :D. By watching your video it gave me the perfect idea to construct the dress im going to make out of tesco plastic carrier bags :D!!! Thankyou !! xx

  • pitty it is so difficult to get those plastic bags. On rumble sales I sometimes find some, but it's not that common.

  • is this like pvc then?

  • I haven't tried this yet but I'm wondering if this has the same properties as leather.

  • Maybe she seems high from all that burned plastic she's been inhaling.

  • Thumbs up if you think "etsy" is the answer to the "How to" question:):):)

  • so epic!!!

  • For awesome photos on canvas look at fetchthings.etsy.com

  • nervous much?

  • Interesting video!

  • gotta love stumbleupon

  • @AGiantLobster yeah, I found this on stumbleupon

  • Is it just me or does this lady seem high?

  • @daylilly33 well she does seem high.....

  • @doggyzandblack Well, she is melting plastic.

  • @doggyzandblack She breathes really hard as well

  • Someone write this girl a script....

  • hey i am not sure what i have done wrong, but when i put my iron on my bad, like .00001 seconds after i do it srivels up into a tindy little band of plastic where urs stays relatively the same size, what have i dont wrong?

  • @jerbear430 it might be you're not moving the iron around, or it's too hot, or the paper you're shielding it with is too thin, or the bags are too thin...?

  • I'm in art school and we just finished a project where we made 12 ft tall inflatable sculptures using this same technique. Needless to say, I never want to iron plastic bags together again. But it is a really cool process!

  • why are you wearing goggles on your head

  • @kprachiens Cause she's awesome.

  • @kprachiens For science!

  • @kprachiens hahahaha! I'm not sure why I find that so funny but I do. So there.

  • I just tried it and it really worked. I even tried with thicker plastic wrappers and it also worked. Hurray!

  • I just tried it and it really worked. I even try with thicker plastic wrappers and it also worked. Hurray!

  • Cute little thing to know =D

  • I've got a better idea, how about just not using plastics, period. Get rid of the ones you do have as safely as possible and then get some cloth bags, you'll never have to worry about it again. I say get rid of plastic as much as possible. The idea of making crafts out of it just seems counter productive.

  • @FadedSilkandGhosts There's nothing wrong with making things out of what other people throw away. I agree, that we should just stop using them, but you don't realize that you can't just zap all those bags away. Matter cannot be destroyed. What do you propose we do with them, other than to make them into more useful objects? I can't stand cynical people like you who see something wrong with everything. Crafts are awesome-don't even play around.

  • still have not got it tried and it will not work

  • Love etsy? Check out shweet.com where you could win a copy of Amy Sedaris' Crafts for Poor People by sharing the love of etsy.

  • BEWARE OF ETSY!

  • @chinacat22 Ok, did my own research on the seller. One seller can make a whole site look bad, but they are not representative of the whole site (just like one person in a country doesn't make everyone else in that country just like them). If that person is going against Etsy rules, Etsy can enforce change from that seller. Many other sellers donate a percentage of their earnings to charities, including those for women's rights and the mentally ill. Perhaps this seller has more dark humor.

  • @chinacat22 1. What has Etsy done to you to make you decide this... is that a shop on the site or what? 2. Can you post any evidence that Etsy promotes abuse of women and mentally ill? I am very interested in that. Right now it sounds like you've just pulled that idea out of your butt.

  • Hey thanks a lot, my wife gonna love it !

  • Everyone should boycott ETSY. They promote the abuse of women and the mentally ill. They are a sick site.

  • can u use the same method to make a grilled cheese sandwich or does the iron not get hot enough?

  • The iron setting should be between polyester and rayon, which she mentioned in another video.

  • some people are talented and creative...the etsy staff gal in this video is not one of them.

  • typical etsy crap. people with no talent doing useless nonsense to make themselves seem important.

  • @thelavendercat Some people do have talent and creativity and we don't do things to make ourselfs feel important lol I don't know where you're getting that from.

  • it works best with black trash bags!

  • this doesn't work!

belive me i tried any kind of plastic bag, any kind of temperature, i tried in between paper, shiny paper, wax paper for cooking, foil, canvas (which probably is the best)

    and still would not work.

    not only:

    I NEARLY INTOXICATED MYSELF!!

the fumes coming out are really strong!!!

DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO TRY!

  • @bimbafly its obvious shes high

  • bravo

  • Cool, txs.

  • cont... I also think a lot of people will still take plastic bags from the store thinking it's A-OK since they're going to make something permanent out of it. NOT SO. We need to work towards ending the manufacture of these altogether. I messed up 3 times this year and had to take plastic bags from stores (even when I forget them, I usually just put my goods in my car and bag them when I get home). Hopefully next year I will make it to zero. Imagine if each person only used 3 bags/yr. OR 0

  • Kudos on the attempt to be eco-friendly... greatly appreciated! Making new items out of this stuff is much better than recycling it or having it wind up in our environment. However, it might be time to step it up a notch. Plastic is toxic; those chemicals are getting into your lungs and skin even when it's not heated up. And they're getting into your food if you use them for toting fruits and veggies.

  • etsy is my fave site!

  • Is that a Rangitoto College skirt???? At the start

  • Cant wait to try this out, thanks! Oh and you look like the double of Kelly in the Hills!

  • VISIT HYPPIECHIC

  • Nice video . Visit " HYPPIECHIC " ON ETSY.

  • How the heck do you prevent the paper from sticking to the bags?

  • @BKMillMan They used wax paper.

  • Great Vid!

  • thank you. fantastic tutorial

  • I feel like I did something wrong when I tried this. I've tried several kinds of bags, but every time it ends up looking wrinkled. Did anyone have the same problem? What should I do? thanks!

  • @avandermarkt I had exactly the same problem!! Ive tried it like 6 times and its still wrinkled. Ive tried lowering the temperature which helped but then it didnt fuse or if it did it would be in 20minutes time.

  • this is pretty cool!

  • Anda, on what temperature do you set the iron? This is important to know.

    Thanks~

  • oh and can you use ziploc bags? I'm guessing yes, but idk

  • instead of stitching can you just fuse them together where you want them to overlap???

  • I'm just too afraid to do this because you said I would mess up twice. ,Then you said I was gonna mess up alot. Well i hadn't figured on using a lot.

I was just going to do it in my living room. SO maybe you should say that we will mess up a room.

  • trying to save the earth is fucking selfish.

  • Comment removed

  • i think you could just hand sew a few layers together without having to iron, also you can knit/ crochet with plastic in strips, old Hawaiian leis unravel to make perfect plastic thread.

  • Threadbanger has a better how to...

  • Its a curious method, i did that and i recomend you that use mask protector to avoid breath plastic gas when you use the iron. Also don use too much levels cause plastic is going to lose his form. Thank you for your demostration

  • you do know that the chemical fumes from melting plastic are 100 time more toxic then smoking 20 packs of cigarettes

  • That is amazing. At my house, we have about a zillion plastic bags because we keep forgetting to use the reusable totes. I'll have to give this upcycling thing shot!

  • check out Simmons Park Yarns video

  • We should all turn on our irons all at once and heat up the planet 2 degrees in order to melt the ice caps so I can have beach front property. ;)

  • This is stinkin awsome!!! I can't wait to try this. Thanks for sharing ;o)

  • lol this is fucking retarded

  • this*

  • She looked scared through most of hits video.

  • Doesn't the company Anda supply drugs to pharmacies?

  • Awesome. My neighbor makes these as velcro wallets with beads sewn in to them. Totally rad!

  • What tempreature shoud the iorn be?

  • Very low. like on a silk setting.

  • Gmwell1 if it became brittle you overheated it. move the iron more, and check it sooner.

Knitting with the bags is more environmentally friendly since you don't heat the bag, but the resulting bag won't be as water resistant, will get dirty easier, and could potentially allow small items to sift through.

Either a knitted bag or a fused bag should be washable.

    HTH

  • omg this was so cool!! i love all your videos, guys! keep up the great work!!!!!!!!

  • It's really nice to know that there's ways to fuse regular plastic grocery bags. I would like to know if there's anybody out there that knows how much fumes are produced fusing them like that...I know you have to do it in a ventilated area but is that enough... Could it still cause you harm.. The more you fuse together at one time... does that cause more fume as oppose to fusing them together by twos and adding on depending on the thickness that you want to acquire. Plastic fumes r real bad.....

  • I tried this and my plastic shriveled up to about half the size and seemed a bit brittle. Need some pointers please.

  • when she says fuse plastic bags can it be used like a firework fuse thats why i watched the video

  • i like the idea of knitting with plastic bags....

  • that is great cuz we have so many in our homes and they do nothing more then fill our land fills so this rocks. We need to save our planet thank you

  • You can make so real cool stuff if you dont die from the fumes first. lol

  • Good job

  • Cute!!! Good Job Anda! I just subbed cause I adore this kina information!

  • I do have a question about when you sew it. Does it not rip on the dotted line of needle perforations?

  • grrr i want someone to show how to make make up bags!!!

  • use this method of fusing bags but make 2 the size of hers sew them together except 4 the top edge put velcro

    thats wut i did XD

  • don't you create lots of toxic crap by fusing the plastic together? i understand that's why you have to be in a well-ventilated area. i want to be eco-friendly and make rad totes, but maybe i'll just knit them instead to prevent that whole toxins in the air thing.

  • @grandmastatus Creating plastic bags creates toxins and uses up precious resources. The energy used to manufacture them (including the extraction of resources, creating the actual bag, and transportation to markets) does not compare to the energy used by the iron to merely fuse them as well. Putting these plastic bags to use which are ultimately doomed to the landfills is another factor to consider. So ultimately you'll be saving on air pollution, electricity, and our lovely home we call Earth!

  • @grandmastatus I think that by re-using them this way instead of not is more eco friendly than getting some fumes in the air. Because you are not really burning it, you probably won't get that much anyways.

  • @grandmastatus I agree, there are a lot of "eco friendly" ideas that are not so eco friendly...

  • @grandmastatus I understand where your coming from but I think a little bit of toxic fume is better than these winding up in landfills where the land fills end up burning what they can anyways. So the fumes are going out whether we like it or not. And recycling centers do that as well. People don't like to think that they put off so much fumes but it's what happens when plastic melts. You can opt out of them at stores but I've always saved the ones I gotten and I have a bunch from years ago.

  • @grandmastatus it doesnt create toxic crap it creates fumes that can make you sick, but they are not harmful to the environment

  • @grandmastatus Your forgetting about all the chemicals used manufacturing and dying the wool.

  • @SuperShopProductions I think they mean knit bags using plarn, yarn made from plastic bags. You don't really have to do anything to it. If they are planning on using regular yarn, you know there are sustainable sources that are non chemically dyed and manufactured, right?

  • @grandmastatus i tried this and i can't smell ANYTHING. i wouldn't do it all day in a closed space just in case there are trace fumes.... but it's just about as much toxins as you'd get from flat ironing your hair with product in it. word of caution. make sure the bags are BONE DRY or it will sizzle in that spot and make a hole.

  • @grandmastatus Well it's not as bad as how many bags get burned to ash that are thrown out.

  • you're so cute!

  • Can you reuse the wax paper?

  • does any body find fusing the bags WAY easier than they show in this video?!

  • YAY!! I LOVE YOU... YOU ROCK!!

  • Are the safety glasses just a fashion accessory or are you supposed to actually use them?

  • What setting do we use on the iron?

  • @VegPanda hot no steam

  • @VegPanda USE THE RAYON SETTING all irons are different. I Have used two irons and both of them work best either on rayon or just above rayon/polyester setting. Remember that you will have to adjust based on the type of bag you have too!

WARNING: each time you adjust your iron, wait 1 - 3 minutes before using again. Some irons heat up rapidly to reach the new temp. (even if it's a lower temp, this can happen) and you will melt / warp / distort your plastic

  • @VegPanda i use a mini iron for like jewelry on shirts but it works

  • @VegPanda I was wondering that too.

  • @VegPanda i used the hottest/cotton

  • try doing it at medium.that might work hopefully! :)

  • I have been trying to do this, but when i iron the bags they shrivel up. I have tired all different types of heat but when i put it lower it doesnt fuse and high makes it shrivel faster... help me pleaseeeeeeee

  • Great idea, great instructions. I made a wallet using these instructions and Gorilla Tape. BRUTAL TEST: I used it daily for over a year in my travels through Mongoiia, China, Mexico. Still good as new!! (TIP: Gorilla tape adhesive doesn't get gummy like duct tape, and holds great!)

  • Great tutorial!I found that the rayon setting works best unless you are in a high altitude like I am (I live in Denver) I can get all the way up to the wool setting before it starts to heat up too much. Parchment paper, in my opinion, works the very best, and I like to cover both sides of the project with it so it doesn't stick to the surface I'm ironing on. I cal the product plabric (plastic fabric), and it makes a nice waterproof bag or wallet, or even rain coat.

  • I tried this. The bag fused to the wax paper I was using and tore. I don't know if I had the iron too hot or I took too long ironing.

  • well, einstein, look at the date on this video. it was posted over a year ago, so it came first. thoughts aren't owned by one entity, you can find tutorials on this kind of project all over the place. get over yourself.

  • man your a dumbass you obviously havent seen the date this video was posted

  • Lol I see now. But it poped up in my most recent so.

  • how hot does the iron get?

  • excellent point...very informative video except for this.

  • we love it

bag with care . blogspot . com

  • Has anyone ever try to take the paper bags that some stiores give you with the cool designs and putting them between plastic bags so that you can use the design?

  • yea i realy want to try puting paper inbetween it...

  • I would love to see that if you ever try you should post a vid

  • I really like the concept and all the clear instructions, but the demonstrator could have been a little more enthusiastic. :)

  • can you make a bong from a plastic bag

  • ive been using this to make my packages for my etsy store its fun fold a long piece of the material in half then fuse up the sides pop everything inside then fuse it closed works great and the post office workers love it the paper that i used to sandwich the plastic is cut in half then glued onto the front of the package so the shipping labels and whatnot can go on to it. then i draw a little picture for my customers lol... it's a good way to get rid of all your shopping bags.

    thank you etsy!

  • i'm wondering of the fused plastic would be food safe? i'm assuming not... but i really want it to be, lol.

  • damn thats awesome! =DDDDD

  • what a great idea!!!!!!! many thanks fro sharing and help us all go green on the planet

  • ok, I'm wanting to know, if using wax paper... iron on the paper side... wax side contacting w/ the plastic bag?

  • can u make a ipod holder or wallet with it

  • I want to do this RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!

  • If you want to make a bigger fused plastic rectangle than that, can you just get maybe... 7 more ***If you have 7 more*** plastic bags (with the same design?) on top and fuse them all together?

    Thanks!

  • can u do a tutorial video abotu how to use thematerial

  • i did it but i could only do 1 out of 10.

  • cool way to reuse...go green!

  • Does it still work if you have your iron on steam?

  • I think most irons have their steam setting really hot, so I'm guessing that would melt the plastic and make it unusable. I think you have to keep the iron on low without any steam.

  • Wouldn't it be quicker if you have a laminator machine to put the plastic bag between the protector sheet and run it through?

  • Because that would be quite a hassle to sew.

  • Awsome! 5*

  • Imma make me a new pair of shoes

  • hey ,how do get rid of the labels? like when i iron , i still see the plastic bag labels even if i turn it inside out ....

  • it just cant touch the labels front side it doesnt matter if you can see them look close at hers u could see the laber before she flipped hers inside out

  • when you turn it inside out it isnt to make the labels not visible its so they dont melt and run every were

  • you SUCK...it's because of people like you that the world is going to where it's going. If people enjoy recycling and make useful things out of it.. let it be you short-minded ignorant.

  • Freezer paper (in the grocer's lunch bag section) is waxed on one side only. If you get melted plastic onto your iron (yikes), let the iron cool all the way, then sponge or cottonball dab acetone (PLAIN nail polish remover). Don't get the chemical on any of the iron's plastic casing. Melted plastic should come right off, even with paper towel.

  • Love it!

  • im working on torsoe armor using this method but for the chest plate and shoulder pads 32 layers is recomended then 16 for ur back and 8 for your stomach

  • lmfao lol

  • lol :)

  • lmao

  • Isn't this a complete copy of the tutorial on the messenger bag one? :/

  • Oh shit, it is the same woman. My bad.
